A large part of the reason US stocks are so overvalued is due to the magnificent 7. Therefore this analysis is only really relevant for those investing in index funds? Right? I'm finding many US stocks which are fairly valued and even a few which are clearly undervalued are undervalued.

SP500 is not the whole market. Even if it was, I am looking at +19.75% on my VOO position for the year. The video assumes you’re lump-summing your future into a single yolo stock and call it a day. In reality you’d most probably DCA your million throughout a decade if not during a longer period. DCA into great companies at good prices and do sports.

You say the median of the PE ratio is 15 but we haven't seen that PE ratio in over 30 years now. Maybe it's time to look different at the PE ratio or its median? With all this money available do you think we ever see a PE ratio of 15 again for the SP500? Sure it might touch again like it did twice over the 30 years I pointed out but I mean for a substantial amount of time?

As an all-in Tesla investor I think there is another very interesting USA based EV company that is now ramping manufacturing. It offers a car, truck and van that like the new cybertruck has drive-by-wire technology! Amazingly you can buy the stock for only 24 cents a share! Imagine buying Tesla when it launched! Don’t miss out!They’re just now ramping up production! The stock is GOEV! I just put a $1000 stock order with betting $. I know it’s a long-shot, but the recent pivot to sell B2B to fleet buyers such as Amazon as delivery vans give it a unique niche Tesla hasn’t addressed yet

Thanks for the reminder about aluminum. Had completely forgotten about the glut the last year, perhaps it's time to look at some automotive contract suppliers. For two reasons, not a lot of cars being sold in recession and there's plenty of aluminum details in a car. Should be criteria enough for bargainhunting

Thanks for this broad overview! Merry Christmas and a happy new year. I also noticed that real estate and US stocks are in bubble territory. You can relate this to the net international investment position of the US (which is deeply negative). When inflation is between 1.25% and 7.1% gold indeed tends to be a little drag on the performance of a portfolio. However, when inflation is below 1.25% or above 7.1% gold tends to actually enhance the performance of a portfolio. Data suggests that a 15% weighting in gold basically makes an otherwise stock/bond portfolio indifferent to inflation with the drag on performance being negligible (due to annual rebalancing), while at the same time reducing the volatility and maximum drawdown of a portfolio. Based on data going back 50 years. By the way, if you measure the fair value of gold by comparing it to global nominal GDP (with which the correlation is about 0.75), gold is only slightly overvalued. Bitcoin (not crypto, as only Bitcoin is truly decentralized) could become an asset class, in my opinion. For me, the risk/reward of a non-zero position is too good to pass.

Thought I come back to this after reading Robert Shiller Narrative Economics book. His argument regarding real estate prices is that people tend to view the real estate market separate from the economy. Additionally, people tend to view prices based of social interaction (what others say) and largely based on what their neighbors real estate price is selling for. This is part of the reason why you often see overpriced real estate as it may be now. Furthermore, much of the popular narrative about real estate speculation in the US can be traced back to 1945 after the war. Thought it was something interesting to share specifically regarding the real estate market speculative narrative genesis in the US.

Hi Sven, Thanks again for sharing these practical information. A question, I started investing for already 5 years, like many people i started investing on what the other put their money in, then I found your channel and i've really started to understand what investing is about. I don't have a finance background, but I started to like investing more and more, now I'm reading the books that you recommended. Now I wonder what is your opinion about studying for a certification, like the CFA, not too much for the idea to work for an investing firm, but with the idea of acquiring knowledge in order to be a better investor. Thanks for sharing your opinion about it! Merry Christmas!

How can the average person hedge against currency debasement, falsely called inflation? What is the BEST debasement hedge? Do stocks REALLY go up? Dow was 18 ounces of gold in 1929 and same in 2022 in honest measures. Dow is down 50% in honest money from 40 ounces of gold in 1999 to 18 ounces of gold today. Gold outperformed the Nasdaq for the past 24 years. Is it all just debasement?

My major shift in my strategy for 2024 is long term bond ETFs. The yield is fair, and if the yield drops/ the rise in price more than makes up for it which is great since I have no intention of holding for ten years. Just holding until recession scare makes the stock market panic opening up some good buying opportunities. I also recognize lots of opportunity in crypto right now, but that is because I understand crypto which give me an unfair advantage in the space. I am actually using DeFi to borrow against my crypto at 0% interest, then using that cash to buy long term government bond ETFs. Real estate is also not going to fall significantly anytime soon, but also unlikely to grow, but of course RE is hyper local. Likely only a good investment because of the leverage involved, but still probably not the best investment in most zip codes when accounting for opportunity costs.

Is it worthwhile to invest in oil&nat gas producers at all, going forward? Even without the recent increase in supply (US shale, permian basin), it seems that the secular trend is less demand. The natural gas demand will be lower long term with the warmer climate everywhere (but especially europe and US). And Oil also seems to be going down, recent OPEC cuts doing nothing. Gasoline demand is going lower each year. What would be the smartest investment going forward? Businesses that are downstream from oil producers, like chemical, who would profit from cheaper inputs?

Great channel Sven, keep up the good work. But we can´t just compare 2009 with 2023, things have changed over the decade. Do you think that the money printing or the longterm cheap money policy will stop in 2024 with all the needed debt refinancing the next years? The worst crisis for the economy (covid) with a global shutdown hit the sp500 just 30-40 days to levels around 2.5k, everything (re)covered till now. I am not sure if you are losing while waiting until valuations come back down. I don´t want to miss 70% upside while waiting for a potential 20-40% drop from levels which are 70/100/150% higher. I think the right strategy is "buying good companies not at any price but keep buying and DCA´ing" when you can withstand red colors in your portfolio. Hard times ahead of us but if you are on the long run, keep buying since we are in the biggest Tech- and Fin-Transformation since the last 30 years when the internet went live.

1:05, Tom Lee Fundstrat: Although equities are indeed up by about 25% YTD, he points out that PE for the S&P 500 ex-FAANG is now around 15.3x, compared to 14.5x at the beginning of the year... In Lee’s opinion, “that’s barely any increase.” The PE for the S&P 500 is also significantly lower now (17.1x) than it was at the beginning of 2022 (21.7x). ...“we are at a great launching point for stocks heading into 2024.”

Most investors don't buy individual bonds - they buy bond funds/ETFs. The ETFs I have looked at pay 1.5% to 2.5% which is not so great in a 5% environment.
@thetjt
@thetjt 8 ай бұрын
But the thing is that Bond etfs also rise in value when rates go down. If you buy, say, DBZB etf (with "effective duration" of 7,6 according to Morningstar), it will go 7.6% up when say US 10 year yield goes 1% down. Plus the current yearly "dividends" (accumulated to etf value) of around 1.5%. So if US (and EU etc to lesser extent) 10 year yield would drop from current 3.9 to 2.9 in 2024 - the DBZB etf should rise in value roughly 9%. The risk is of course that interest rates go up which would decline the etf value. I bought DBZB at about US 10 year yield at 4.5% around half a year ago. Today the etf value has increased 4,96% because of the recent expectations of Fed rates decrease.

Thanks for the very interesting content as usual, Sven! I’d like you to dig a bit deeper into why you think taking a mortgage after 2008 was a bargain because of low interest rates. We were paying less for the monthly payment, agreed. However, the prices skyrocketed as for your own admission in the video, so we would all simply be able to pay more, even if on a wider timeframe, in reality. From an economic / valuation point of view your yield would have been terrible, especially if interest rates are going to stay higher for longer now. I am not a professional investor but for what it is worth, here are my thoughts: I have been investing for only about three years now and recently sold off all S&P500 ETF holdings in my portfolio at some 25% gain - why? The S&P500 have been plateauing at the 80 USD mark and for all I know, swings like those in the last odd year will continue for the upcoming months. The markets are crazy and a lot of other factors such as geopolitical ones (Ruzzia´s war, the threat of an annexation of Taiwan, etc.) just make so many stocks so damn risky these days. And we haven´t even seen a proper recession yet after all the turmoil with covid and what not. There will be better times to buy and for as silly as it may sound: I got a feeling that sufficient dry powder will come in handy soon. Better be prepared, at least for a major correction. So also thanks to you, Sven, for helping us rookies to get an idea of what alternatives are - the bonds sound very interesting. I would also like to hear more!

I've sort of given up "hope" of US crashing anytime soon. Too much money printing & greedy investors. Anyway I think I'll probably hold my US stocks for now, not a lot of it and most minimum volatility ETF anyway. Sold half of the little US growth stocks I had to patch up losses. Don't even mention Taiwan. Bought a lot of China yesterday...

The company is called Atkore, with a capitalization of approximately 6 billion, currently the price is at an all-time high, but even so the PE is below 10. It grows through acquisitions - which can be both good and bad for investors. At the same time, it generates good cash flow, and the balance sheet looks quite good.

9:24 It's a store of value. You don't want to be in a trend of people selling but it's not only selling.. what about the other aspect? And it's an asset class even though you think its not. I believe every investor should hold at least 0.1 or 1% of its portfolio in BTC. Considering energy consumption try dive into bitcoin vs traditional banking energy consumption, if you even want to see it as a currency. Your views on it is almost clownish but sure have fun with bonds.

I just wrote a report for my work and released a youtube short about why bonds seem like they're about to enter a multi-year bull market. Been a long time fan of yours and it's cool to see that you're seeing what I'm seeing in that space.

Dipper dive in Bonds - Yes, please. Also, what about GOVT - iShares U.S. Treasury Bond ETF? Is it similar to US1Y? My 401k offers a Bond Index fund. Worse to consider? Thank you, Sven.

Question about the bonds. If market is pricing in 6 rate cut next year - does it mean that in case of delivering 3 rate cuts the price of TLT will go down?

In principle yes. Howeever the market seems to be often hopeful and forward looking so maybe it stays the same?

What do you consider a good emerging market nowadays? China has huge risk that when a conflict starts the foreign equity holders will get wiped out one way or another. I like China otherwise at these prices. India stock market has quite high P/E.

This is true in the in my area (greater Seattle). Very few houses on the market and still high prices on those that are listed. The only way I see the prices go down is an apocalyptic scenario, like mass unemployment which ofc would crash everything.

One million dollars bought 50 houses in 1964, 25 houses in 1975, 12 houses in 1981, 6 houses in 1995, 3 houses in 2007, 2 houses in 2022, according to Federal Reserve median home prices. Housing is a currency play, as is stocks and gold. The IOUs are falling, falling, falling in value. IOUs can not hold value. I just collect rents but I bought long ago, 30 years ago. I keep them paid for. Very little risk. Just collect the rent.
