So you're going to Venice but not sure where to stay? I get it. Venice is a fairly small city, made up of 118 tiny islands, connected by roughly 400 bridges and broken up into 6 different neighborhoods or districts, called "Sestieri".
Which sestiere is right for you? It depends on what you're looking for. When choosing a hotel or holiday flat, you need a breakdown of the neighborhoods to know what's going to work for you and your traveling companions. Some Venice neighborhoods are packed with attractions...and tourists. Others districts are quiet, but a little further away from the action.
Here's a quick Venice neighborhood breakdown with an explanation of why you should choose or not choose that particular part of the city. Do you want to be near all the tourist sites? Would you rather be able to jump on a vaporetto and easily head to the beach? Are you looking for close proximity to the best restaurants on the island of Venice? Or are you going to be island hopping to the smaller destinations in the Venetian Lagoon, like Burano, Lido and Murano? Is a luxury hotel more important than a quiet neighborhood? How much should you spend on an accommodation in Venice?
These are the questions you'll need to ask yourself before you plan your trip to "La Serenissima". What are the best neighborhoods? They're all amazing, I'm serious. It's just that some might be better for YOU than others. Here's my list of the 6 Venice neighborhoods and the things you can expect from each.
