My only complaint was they didn't even mention him. Like Batman was there when Falcone died and was a huge part of the Riddlers plan and he doesnt even get a mention. Like he had an insane chase and beat up Penguin and no one even says anything to Oz about it. Youd also think Oz would be on the look out for him since he literally crashed his club and kicked his ass. Especially since Reeves said that the show literally begins right when the movie ends and takes place in a couple of weeks after I would believe the Bat helping take Falcone down would be talk of the town, especially with the criminals but thry dont even mention it It's like he doesn't even exist.

Every new installment from matt reeves batverse is providing us with an update of Batman's psyche, and this show gave us a scene of Batman standing on the rooftop of wayne enterprises, where he lets his thoughts out: "maybe i should just become a streamer who plays LOL 24/7 instead of dressing up as a bat every night, maybe that's for the better" It shows us that the existential crisis is deep within Batman, and we'll see what's next in Batman part II.

Actually it’s much simpler than even this theory. The TV rights for a live action Batman are a very gray area. It’s why in shows like Gotham, Birds of Prey, & Titans, he’s rarely shown, if at all. This dates back to the Adam West Batman series. Which originally aired on CBS. WB doesn’t disclose this fact often to protect their IP.

I like the in universe explanation you tried to give of how Batman not only is working on his Bruce Wayne persona, but he's distancing himself from the Vengeance motif he had in the film and is now working on actually saving people. Especially since the ending monologue of the film talked about how a lot of Gotham is underwater now, and that the National Guard was called in. No doubt Batman would help out.

Penguin was genuinely going to let his mothers finger get cut off cuz he was caught up in his own fantasy and delusions. He doesn't believe that he's as evil as people know him to be. Some of us like Victor thought the penguin was a hero but he obviously wasn't. Brilliant writing. I was angry at finale but later accepted and loved it cuz the show gave more than enough instances that show penguins true character and motives.

It's also believabtthat we don't see Batman because it's not clear how long the Penguin series plays out over. It could easily be the 8 episodes take place over only a week or so which gives more credence to it being too early in Batmans timeline for him to be a known presence.

I presume that given the start of the penguin is a week after the batman I take it that batman is focusing on rescuing citizens and once he finished he's took a back step from being batman "vengence" he's had to go back to the drawing board as to how he can be more than what he was bare in mind that gcpd didn't need to call on the batman for the gang war bcoz on the surface they've done a good job they got there guy (woman) responsible for the blood shed and bombings

To add onto the showrunner's reason if they added Batman that would mean Penguin is now on Batman's radar so the story wouldn't end with Oz being the new kingpin it would probably end with him in Blackgate just think about Arkham Knight or Arkham City if Batman didn't hear about what Penguin was doing Penguin would succeed at whatever he was doing so if Batman was in the show it would have been over much sooner

Thank you for the support Komrade! TBH I think story wise we will see more of Bruce and he will realize him a Bruce is just as important as Batman. When you rewatch The Batman you can pick up that he's actually a brat and even disrespects Alfred a few times. He doesn't tighten up until Alfred almost loses his life to the Riddler. I think we will see more of why Batman is mentally scared and why him actually helping people rather than just lashing out on criminals are good for his sprits and mission. Villain wise it can go either way, I dont think we will see too much with the Joker (its just a hunch and I have no evidence). Everyone is saying a court of owls could be getting set up right now... I have a lot of thoughts on this. Would this be a topic you'd be interested in seeing as a video?

@kaylex3 Yes I would honestly. It's a topic on a lot of people's minds I'd think. If I had to guess I'd say we see Harvey Dent start and have a relationship with Bruce. I believe we will see Thomas Elliot aka Hush try and steal Bruce's identity (if he gets close enough in looks perhaps we can see some of Robert Pattisons range as well.) I think they will mix Hush and Clayface too making his a master make up artist rather than sludge monster as well as surgeon. We obviously will see Penguin some. Probably a scene or two in arkham with Joker and Riddler forming a closer alliance (leading to 3) and a bigger hint at the court here too.

The second movie is definitely about The Penguin and then they should create a set up for another series with 8-10 episodes with another iconic complex villain. With Two-Face for example. They should use the series for character development for Bruce Wayne and deliver a full Batman persona in the movies (which is more expensive). With Two-Face would be perfect cos they were close friends. Also to show how Justice is so far from the ideal which justify the cape crusader in the streets. How sick and twisted people of Gotham became which could tie the madman himself the Joker. And then in the 3rd movie the Two-Face full villain and Joker again responsible for his facial disfigurement. 1st Underworld mobsters, 2nd Corrupt Politicians, 3rd Madness n Justice by own hands. Perfect Trilogy for grounded characters without superpowers.

I think thats why Batman villains are so Iconic, because each of his rouges galley represent a potent part of his subconscious if he didn't choose "the bat" persona. Thats why I think the film did GREAT with how the riddler ends up idolizing him and then it turns into hatred when he realizes Batman's true intentions.

It wouldn't surprise me if The Batman: Part II starts with Batman handing over some villain or just a regular bad guy to either the GCPD or straight up Arkham which is why he couldn't follow all of the things that have been happening in The Penguin, but I think there will be a more subtle explanation since it's Matt Reeves, genuinely wonder what the intro will be like, but yeah I agree with the statement that Penguin was just really lowkey about everything that Batman had very little clue about all of the stuff that has been happening, maybe he was onto it but didn't figure the important parts soon enough to prevent the events
