Those asking if Kenyans can own property in the West, answer is yes, Kenyans can own properties in the West; a significant number already do, and I personally do as well. However, the challenges lie in the discourses surrounding "immigrants" versus "investors," which highlight the global imbalance of power and resources. Additionally, we as Kenyans must shift our mindset away from simply "running away" and start seeing Kenya as a land full of untapped potential.
@WhereNextFamily5 күн бұрын
This is absolutely correct. Anyone can own property in the West, just as they can in Kenya. When it comes to living there it can be a different matter due to visa requirements etc. which is also true in Kenya. I personally wouldn't consider ourselves to be either investors or immigrants at the moment as we don't actually have a permanent residence anywhere, and haven't bought a property in Kenya either. We just love the country and wish to do our part to showcase it to the world ❤️
@rang36885 күн бұрын
@ … you have all the rights! As you state, regardless of the context, all legal procedures should be followed. I am a Kenyan who has lived in Scandinavia for years and invested here. My mention of the discourse around “immigrants” versus “investors/expats” stems from a biased perspective, those moving from the Global South to the Global North are predominantly labeled as “immigrants,” whereas those moving from the Global North to the Global South are often referred to as “investors” or “expats.” Despite my contributions as both an academic and an investor, I still find myself broadly categorized as an “immigrant,” highlighting the unequal framing applied on a systemic level. But changes are happening at micro and macro levels.

It’s such a shame that this is the case for you (and others). To be honest I spend so little time in my own country that I never see this kind of thing, however you are certainly not the first person that I’ve heard this comparison from, and it saddens me. Thank you for sharing your perspective 🙏

As long as whomever moves to this country (Kenya) appreciates the local customs, behaviours, history and it's people, one should be fine. Issue stems when the visitors try to push their agenda or illicit behaviours/acts that are against the local people's beliefs, culture, religion and activities. We haven't traveled there for a while but your video brought back lovely memories. Very good efforts.
