Here in Europe we are living with so much insecurity about next war and the rising energy prices.. I was in an interracial, cross-cultural relationship for a decade. I have this to say about the language barrier: we never miscommunicated about the big things, only the little things. My experience was that because discussions were effortful at the literal language level they were necessarily more intentional and mindful. In the end, I learned more of his language than he did of mine, but that was fair since we were living in his country.

I think I should share my experience with you two. I am married to British. Sometimes when I talk normal he thinks I m shouting .I think it's the tone of sri Lankans. Visa vise is such a headache. I have been married over 10 years but I am still in spouse visa. Which take up to 5 years to get Permanent residency. I would recommend anyone not to go through which I have been through. But everyone's journey is different.

Lahiru don't climb coconut trees, without any protection please.. if you fell and brake your back 😢..I am very concern of your safety.. Lucie please don't let him climb without any protection. Especially when the trunks are wet, they are slippery. It only takes seconds anything like that to happen But whole your beautiful life would be gone... He would be bed bounded all his life. I think its commendable that you two have such a great relationship. I think its also perhaps mindful to speak of colorism in the context of Sri Lanka’s colonised past. And the longest and perhaps the most brutal colonizer was England. What is also useful to put into context is that colonization ended only 75 years ago. Therefore, with over 400+ lost history as colonised peoples (200 of which being under the English, I think as a Sri Lankan I always reflect on many of these comments about interracial relationships with those aspects in mind. And I think the concepts of White privilege, internalized colonial mentality, inferiority complex are topics that might also help in reflecting on the interracial angle. I thought it is important to share these ideas. Best wishes to you!

Arjuna34100 - Give the guy a break. He hasn’t been taught English in a school. He is now learning it as an adult. His wife is teaching him and it will come eventually but he only has her to converse English and not fully immersed in a society where most people speak English as their mother tongue.

However, I must say that "hard work" applies to not just in England, it applies to Srilanka too. You worked hard in England and you are working hard in Sri Lanka, the difference is that your heart is in Srilank. I look at many of these KZbin channels with interracial relationships between western women and 3rd world country men and its amazing to know that most of the relationships starts from him working at the charity and her coming along to volunteer. It is the western women's choice to start the relationship but it makes me wonder why she opens her heart to someone that is volunteering where is most other places she wont open her heart like at a restaurant or bar for example.
