There's a lot of misinformation in this video. He missed a bunch of the actual differences between these cars- different fenders, different nose panel, different headlight covers, added rear diffuser, upgraded suspension, upgraded brakes, forged bottom end, all the turbocharger bits, hardened transmission with different ratios, the list goes on. I feel like the video would have been better served as an observer noticing the changes they see, but not a direct comparison with no knowledge of what is actually different. I appreciate the 944 content but would like to see accuracy in the videos. Check out Peter Morgan's book "Original Porsche 924/944/968" for a great read on the details of these cars.

You're right, this video was pretty weak. It was filmed last minute and I only had a few minutes with the car, so I couldn't do as much research as I would've liked. Thanks for all the extra info, maybe someday I'll be able to redo this video under better circumstances!

@@QuickshiftCars You should! I would watch that. I also agree with you about the interiors- I prefer the pre 85.5 with it's cool 70's vibe.

Also the wheels on the turbo are Design 90 cast alloys from an s2. The wheels that came with the 86-87 were phone dials and 88-91 came with forged anodized alloy clubsport wheels.they look very similar. The d90 is distinguishable by the ledge on the outer ring area between the big center and the rim. 86' came with boge Sachs struts but all 87-91 had konis.

The trim piece on the door is called a door guard to keep the door from getting door dings. This was an option.

Man, $5000 and $15,000 respectively for these cars sounds wonderful. 4yrs later, you're looking at $10k to $15k for the base model and at least $20k for the turbo and usually over $25k. Ridiculous how much prices have gone up for literally everything, including this classic car.

The stripe on the turbo 944 is a door protector it prevents ppl from hitting their car doors on it an messing up you paint or you opening the door and hitting something. My trans am ws6 had it as well that’s how I know

Cool. 85.5 944 NA here, I love driving it. I need a respray, desperately. I'm looking in the Fresno area. And I need to get a stereo. These 2 in your video look in great shape. I'll look for vids on your work. Turbo would be great for freeway driving.

I've got a real nice white '89 944 turbo ... real nice everything. unmolested. factory wheels refinished.. still in the boxes as I have some cool aftermarket wheels on it. All the controls are nice and crisp. Ice cold air. Barely a rub mark on driver seat bolster

Bubba, there are serious differences betwixt the 944 and the 951, The engine is up rated, turbo charged, different components all round. The driveline is beefed up to handle the extra ponies. The transaxel is cooled, the control arms on the suspension are alloy, the fuel pump is different, interior is different, externally the front facia is different, the rear end has a spoiler to keep it on the road, the list goes on. Both are great cars, but one will cost more to own than the other..

The early model is my choice. Everything is just so much period correct than the later 944.

Fun fact, the phone dials on your car are not the original rims. In 84, you could only get the base "cookie cutter" wheels or the optional fuchs wheels. The ones on your car were not stock on the 944 until 1985. So a previous owner must have swapped them out

Pre 86 is a 80s car, both outside and inside, id say who ever loves 80s car will surely appreciate more the old dash over the newer..anyway its really amaze me how just the bumpers and dash change the vibe so much

Seriously though reach out to local 944 community and see if you can do a proper comparison and do some more research before you do. Too many inaccuracies to go through. Hopefully there is a turbo in your future, as you will never look back
