Box braids girly with relaxed hair normally. I’ve noticed protective styles, long wavy hair, and wash n’ go’s are absolutely catnip for non black men. When I wear my hair pulled back I’m a non existent ghost, but when I threw some box braids in…every man in a five mile radius comes running to say hello. Plus I’ve also noticed my fairy god brother that men with Porsches and other high end super cars can’t keep their eyes off of me. The more expensive the car the more likely they are to try and talk to me and I don’t mean the howling and screaming nonsense, but I literally had a man in a 911 stop in the middle of the road and talk to me about the weather and how I liked our neighborhood while I was on my power walk one day. What are your thoughts on that? I always jokingly say I’m a super car man’s catnip, but now I’m seriously noticing this happens all the time.

When I had long sisterlocks I attracted all kinds of men. Black, White, Latino, Arab, Asian and everything in between. Now that I’ve cut my sisterlocks and started over with short starter locks I rarely attract anyone. In my experience most men equate beauty with long hair.

When I wear my natural hair (4c), I get looks from white men. When I wear my curly headband wig, I get looks from white and brown men. When I wear my straight V-part, I get looks from all men (even the Black guys😂). Keep in mind I said, Looks lol… I rarely get approached nowadays. I’m 6 feet tall so I stand out.

It's true pixie cuts and finger waves attract old guys and white dudes... bc alot of moms and older women rock it so they associate it with maturity... and sorry to say conservative guys like long hair bc they're into gender roles so they see it as more feminine ... it's all very old fashioned thinking

You are exactly right! I am married, and my husband is white (I have locs). I have had natural hair for about 16 years and noticed once I stopped straightening my hair, I got NO attention from black guys. The white, Indian, and Hispanic guys were always trying to conversate, especially once I got locs. And yes, my locs also get lots of unwanted attention from "those guys" who like to yell, "Hey Shawty," from down the block 😂.

I mean when I had the weave everyone approached me but then again I was in Miami. Now I’m all natural 4c and it’s mostly white, some latinos, one Asian, and black men have vanished 😂 When I was younger I had braids but was in a white school so its biased, they were all white. I would add that weight is a huge factor to take into. The skinnier the more white, medium gets more latinos and bigger gets me more black guys.

It’s been heavily ingrained in you growing up if I had to guess. Plus, your environment is a huge factor too. If you want to date within your race, fine. If you want to date out, fine. It’s probably easier to just focus on dating someone who you’re actually compatible with more than anything else. Best of luck! 😊

You accept you. Firstly. Brava! Many of us were not brought up, or are not self-accepting enough, to truly do so. I love that this has been changing. However, many black men often seek white or white-adjacent-looking women. Finding a genuine one that is also not into the placeholder, then come-up switch as they grow professionally is not easy.
