By far the BEST explanation of gear ratios I’ve ever seen! I’ve been bass fishing for going on 50 years and it amazes me the number of guys who have no idea what those numbers mean. Ritchie, you’re took young to remember, but back in the day Quantum came out with the “381”…yep, 3.8:1. In those days they advertised those lows gear ratios for “winching” the fish out of heavy cover. As if you used just the reel to do that! Thanks for a very informative video!

Hey thanks! 👊🏽😊 Really appreciate the kind words! Glad you enjoyed the video. And wow! I’d be curious to see the inches per turn on that 3.8:1! 😃 Crazy how they’ve become faster and faster and faster. I definitely try to keep it as simple as I can for sure. 😁

@@WhereWeWildI tend to use all of the different ratios for different techniques. My system lines up pretty well with what you shared. 5’s for big deep cranks (which I don’t really throw a lot), 6’s for big bladed spinnerbaits, squarebills and medium depth cranks, 7’s for Chatterbaits, underspins, etc, and 8’s for buzzbaits, frogs, and all my pitching baits (jigs, creature baits, etc. I found your channel not too long ago when I was working on a friends Curado 150DC. That video was excellent, as well. I even ordered that silicone work mat you showed in the video. You definitely got a new subscriber and I look forward to your next video!

Nice. That’s pretty much exactly how I roll them out there. The big heavy swimbaits are pretty much the lowest ratio I go. They take a lot of power, especially if you get a big bite. 😎 And that’s awesome man. Really appreciate the support and really happy to hear you’re enjoying the videos. Welcome to the channel! 😊 Haha sweet… I love that work mat! 😂 Thanks again for the kind words and thanks for watching brother. 👊🏽

good video don't forget that things change with how much line is on your spool also so when your lure is out at the farthest point of your cast it will be coming in slower than when u get closer to the boat. thanks for sharing

Thanks! 👊🏽😊 Oh for sure. Kind of cool too making the spool lighter by only filling it halfway, allows you to cast lighter baits. Like you can take a Curado MGL 150, fill it halfway and throw bfs baits on it no problem if you don’t want to buy a bfs reel. Haha 😎😁🤙🏽

@@WhereWeWild i use the slx 70 for that the spool is a little shallower, so it improves on that
