Admittedly, it's a regional "staple" from Buffalo New York where I was originally from, but Sahlen's is the best I've ever had, and they're mostly just sold in certain areas, Buffalo being one. These are definitely mostly done on a traditional charcoal or gas grill though, although I have personally made them on my Blackstone as well. I know there are a ton of good ones out there though, and it's largely personal choice. I love the "crisp snap" the Sahlen's has though. Great video man, now I'm hungry and was a hotdog on my Blackstone on an early Sunday morning. LOL.

We like Sugardale Super Dogs. They are chicken and pork but they are good. Sometimes you can get uncured beef but it's hard to find. Worth the price.

Hello Johnny. Perfect video for the Summer Holidays. We like the Kirkland brand hot dogs at Costco. Now that you can buy them in the cooler case and make your own 1.50 Costco dogs at home. Back in the day, Costco would use Hebrew Nationals at their snack bars, but the rumor is that Hebrew makes the ones for Costco under the Kirkland Brand. I do like to split my dogs for the griddle. More surface area to get that good color. Plus, it opens up to allow more condiments to sit on the dog. Also like to cook the split dog on the flat side first and then flip it and place cheese on the cut side. Yummy! Thanks for sharing. Enjoy Memorial Day!

I did nearly this exact same experiment a few years ago. I had no preference going in, but I did at least the same top 4 - ballparks, Nathan's, Hebrew national, and Oscar Meyer. Maybe one or two more. I found ballparks to be the best. Obviously taste is subjective, but it's a fine experiment all the same.

The best way to serve hot dogs at a party IMHO is to acquire an inexpensive, but well-built roller on Amazon and put the buns in foil bags like 7-11 uses and throw them in a chafing dish. Now that I think about it, this is just the 7-11 method, but it works and people can grab a perfectly cooked hot dog off the roller and serve themselves throughout the day. Finally, look up “spiral cut hotdogs”. I haven’t done this yet, but the next chili cheese dogs I make are going to be spiral cut. Superb video!!!

First off not a huge fan of hotdogs. Always put ketchup on mine. However, I recently found something that beats ketchup on dogs and eggs. You have to try it, Johnny. It’s called Banana Sauce, get the spicy version, it’s from the Philippines. The regular, not so good, and I am generally not a spicy person. Ballpark Beef Grillmaster are usually the great, big ones. Smaller dogs do two on a bun. Hebrew National and Nathan’s are both good. Been wrapping cheese around mine lately.

Here in the N.E. we have Sabrett - more of a water dog than a grill dog, and avail in natural casings. While perhaps not the quality cuts of a H.N. but makes up for it with bangin' spices! But probably *THE BEST* dogs (if you can find them near you) are Hatfield's - also in natural casings and killer spices! (These are sometimes sold under the corporate name of Clemens.)

Love Ballpark, Nathan's aren't bad but they are too thin. I'll have to try Hebrew National. I live in SW PA and they have Kunzler hotdogs at our grocery stores. Those are very good too. I agree with you about mustard. I won't eat without it. I never tried the giardiniera on a hot dog, that would be good! Thanks for the idea. We love trying different toppings on our dogs.

Use to like Ballpark but last few packages I did not. I think they changed their recipe. For me dogs are done when they split. Also don't like hard casing's. Hot Dog! What a hilarious video, but 6 dogs require 6 beers man! Nathans with snappy skin is usually a fav across youtube. Last year, my impulsive roommate bought 6 packs of random hot dogs because a Memorial Day sale, but we had no room in the freezer & he only bought one 8-pack of crappy wonder bread buns. We had fake mini-beer-brats the size of dogs, jalapeno chicken dogs (surprisingly good when slathered with garden jalapenos & cheese sauce that I bought for nachos), plus 2 packs of Ballpark all-beef dogs, and 2 Oscar Meyer "bologna" dogs. Clearly, the dogs are 80% preservatives, so we had some time & just put them in the fridge. I went to work on youtube & got ideas. I asked him to buy some specific buns & I then bought a bunch of specific condiments, so for three weekends, I made some bad ass dogs - including the BEST DOG - dragged thru the garden CHICAGO STYLE, along with the 2nd best, Coney Island style chili dogs + chili cheese fries, plus some w/ with sauerkraut (yuk) & coleslaw (meh). Good times...

Johnny - Our favorite hotdog is Omaha Steak's 3 oz Jumbo Franks, and everyone can easily order them online. They're just about the only thing we like from overpriced Omaha Steaks. Those Kroger Select dogs you had remind me of them. I like to put down a good coating of bacon grease on the griddle and roll them around in it until they get a char. They're big dogs, so I feel the need to use a large, quality artisan bun so there's lots of room for the toppings. As always, thanks for your wisdom!
