I feel the first SIM everyone should get is GTR2 this sim will teach you pretty much everything you will ever need to drive in a racing game. Once you have mastered GTR2 you can then move to the more modern sims if you want FUN and graphics Pcars rules if you want Sim then either Automobilista or Assetto Corsa. Then when you start dreaming of Real world racing get rFactor 2.

I bought project cars as my first simulator(ish) racing program before that I had Grid Autosport and F1 2010 and I was so astounded by the work put it on the physics I bought my first FFB wheel. I have to admit I became a fanboy and everyone who said Assetto Corsa was better I would think 'pssh no way pCars is the best'. Along comes Steam Summer Sale 2016 and I bought Assetto Corsa and although there were some early struggles I immediately was able to recognise it's superiority. Long story short after a few months of ownership I outright uninstalled pCars and have never looked back. One day I'll buy RFactor2 or iRacing and will probably be even more pleasantly surprised.

Nice analysis Gamer muscle! I have spent a lot of time comparing the Sims and even though the topic is complex, as you capture nicely, I tend to agree with you on the vast majority of your points. Here are a few additional things to consider: 1) AI quality is also important if you desire single player. IRacing has none. RF2 is probably the best but Automobilista is also excellent and Assetto Corsa has made good progress too. Not so sure about RRE in this area. 2) Feel and control over the limit. I agree with you that AC is great with this but I wonder if it is maybe a bit too Easy? You can manage over the limit in RF2 and iRacing but it is more challenging than AC. Perhaps that is realistic... particularly with slicks? I am not sure. 3) Content is really a differentiator. Too much to mention in a post but because all these Sims are high quality the cars and tracks available can make the difference if you can only choose one. 4) So, here is a bit of my take, in alphabetical order: Pick AC due to its all around strengths and because of the fantastic car selection particularly the street legal cars. Pick Automobilista if you want a great selection of F1 cars, really good AI, very nice sound and a different/novel track list. Pick iRacing for the multi-player, the fantastic tracks and the Oval racing if you are a fan. Pick pCars for the graphics and nice content selection. Pick RF2 for the FFB, the best modern non hybrid F1 car and outstanding historic open and tin top cars. Pick RRE for content flexibility, series like DTM and for the sound.

I play Live for speed around some years and in my opinion was the best sim racing if you looking a good sim for drifting. at the moment Live for speed with old tyre physics was over all sims and this year(2017) come out new tyre model for it,GamerMuscleVideos allready make video when that come out.i dont have way to prove nothing because im not a drifter in reallife, but was really interesting to me see professional drift/rally driver like Pawel trela give nice feedback about it.i know some real life drifters in saying "i drifting with this car for long time in real life and LFS was the sim more close i can get for ), but i cant have sure like when i listen Pawel trela talking about this. was not perfect sim,not the best, but still with alot realism and i can say LFS was "real time" sim racing. In my prespective Drifting was the best thing for you test any sim racing because you have to use all wheel rotation,feels ffb in all wheel zones,control grip, position car, etc..etc.. sorry my bad english cheers

Project Cars 2 is coming out in 9 days. I'm pretty excited for it. Just search "Project Cars 2 kart racing" and one of the main video's is an earlier build that is just mind numbing for realism. I hear they nailed the tire physics too and all the Project Cars 2 tracks are laser scanned. It was tested by a bunch of real drivers who apparently also "fixed" it from the initial 1 release two years ago. You don't have to run it in a slow internet browser like a few of the racing sims out there like iracing and Live for Speed (which was voted best for VR)...however I think Project Cars 2 might destroy Live for Speed in VR as well as it's fully supported. Comes out Sept. 22nd. 2017 for PC on Steam. Check it out.

I see your point about none of them doing everything perfectly, but one of them gets close to any other Assetto Corsa, hands down, easy money. No doubt about it. Best all around sim. rF2 is a very close second but it's lacking in a bunch of ways. Incredible FFB though Iracing is the best for online racing, but it's lacking in one of the most important ways, force feedback.

Hugo Stiglitz I agree 100% I wish rf2 looked better not so cartoonsish and being more polished . ffb is great
@HugoStiglitz888 жыл бұрын
Mpamphs Kangourosaurous For me, an even bigger issue with rF2 is content, UI, lack of any career mode, but also, there is seemingly a lack of consistency between cars. Some cars have mind blowingly good FFB, others have really poor feedback. That's one thing I love about AC. The cars handle entirely differently but the FFB doesn't suffer. You still get great feedback regardless of the car, although, some are much heavier/lighter on the wheel than others by a huge margain sometimes but that's why on PC there's options to adjust the FFB strength of each car Still, Amazing what ISI have done with RF2 in my opinion
@Tripokaridos228 жыл бұрын
true rf2 feels like beta version, but there are a lot to like. ANyway for now I am palying Assetto for physics ffb, Raceroom for fun to drive and Project cars for atmosphere

Mpamphs Kangourosaurous Yea. pCars has such an impressive roster of cars, tracks, and amazing graphics. If you dial in Jack Spade's FFB settings, it's much better than ever, but it still isn't quite there with AC, especially when it comes to road cars

I recently decided to get into simracing. After the initial period of getting used to the wheel in ETS2, I started trying different simracing games just last week (it's a Steam summer sale after all). I tried Grand Prix Legends, Assetto Corsa, Project Cars, Game Stock Car Extreme, Automobilista, rFactor, rFactor2, Live for Speed, GTR2. rF2 and LFS are the only games which I enjoyed. They were the only ones where it "clicked" for me. I feel like I actually know and understand what the car is doing and it makes sense to me. Maybe it is due to the choice of cars and tracks, but I tried to use the same type of cars in all sims: low downforce open wheelers, like beginner formulas and Caterham Seven. Assetto Corsa and Project Cars didn't run well on my machine (not because of performance, because of bugs), although I did have a chance to drive a little bit and I didn't enjoy it. rFactor 1 and GTR2 (which is basically the same thing) are good too, but the model feels too simple and easy. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, considering I'm only learning. I'll probably be playing GTR2 anyway, simply because of the driving school.

Good video. I do disagree with you about the rf2 over the limit handling (I think it is better than ac and ams in that regard), but that's ok.
@SimRacingPakistan8 жыл бұрын
Agree and this video is so misleading (Clickbait) ! and he is also wrong about when people ask "Which is best racing simulator ?" as there is the answer out there and some of the youtubers/simracers have. Heck there is a comment below from Hotlap_Haven about what is the real racing sim and I think he explained it better. What I think is the best racing simulators is iRacing, rFactor2 and Assetto Corsa. Pcars was a joke ! And lastly people should judge the Sim by the car handling not by if it is missing a Feature ! example: Pits Stop with missing crew.... I really miss GTR-2 by SimBin.

have you ever tried to drift in rfactor? it's not bad but it's too glitchy and less predictable compare to assetto
@ihminen56928 жыл бұрын
If you mean rfactor1, i have not. In rf2 i have done it quite a lot. I would say that drifting in rf2 is more nuanced thing and it feels like there was more things simulated compared to AC and AMS where the physics feels a bit more simple. I would imagine that without good wheel you might not feel all that is going on with the rf2 physics and make it feel less predictabe, especially in drifting.

This explains why I can't get FFB in rF2 and AC to feel the same. One thing AC does better than any other sim is communicate the onset of brake lock-up. You can feel it thru the wheel as it starts to judder. I've been trying to replicate it in rF2.
@GamerMuscleVideos8 жыл бұрын
Well also the simulators have different math and methods for doing the physics so that will also affect the FFB and end feel of the cars. I agree about that aspect of feel in AC, the front end feel you describe I think seems to come from the suspension compression in AC and with simulators in general I have noticed that cars that typically have more roll and suspension movement convey this loading and then lead into the lock up better. AC also has its slip effect you can set which gives you an outright wheel shake once you are properly locked up. I think its possible to set up sim-vibe with RF2 to give you a lead in but its not something I have had a chance to use.
@GamerMuscleVideos8 жыл бұрын
***** Even if its a canned effect its still trigged by the physics, and in general the scrub shake seemed to mirror what I have seen in real cars or felt sat in cars as a passenger around a track.
@GamerMuscleVideos8 жыл бұрын
***** I see what you are saying.
@RTRGT68 жыл бұрын
GamerMuscleVideos I like the FFB in AC so tried to replicate it in rF2 but only way I could get anything close was by adding dampening and spring centering on the Logitech profiler. In effect all I did was mask the good FFB with artificial weight. Now you explained how they differ in their approach, it all makes bit more sense. Cheers!
@GamerMuscleVideos8 жыл бұрын
RTR - Banger I think RF2 tends to feel particularly bad on the G25/G27/G29 its much better on the T300 and also DD wheels like the AF and OSW's I have tried. I think the quick osilations and amount of track texture that RF2 convays in its FFB is a real issue for the Logitech wheels and as you say if you then put dampening up it tends to then mask other aspects of its FFB.

Which simulator is right for me? Is what should be asked. Do you like rally? Tarmac? Stage vs RallyX? Nascar vs F1 vs GT vs Indy etc? Single player or Competition? A lil both leaning one way? As close to 1:1 physics? A LITTLE (really I just mean not as punishing) less realistic? Learning Racing Rules? Novice? INTERMEDIATE? PRO? Ps4, Xbox, or PC? Modding capabilities??? Once you get down to what they want to drive. How they want to drive. What they're driving on and what their experience is, then you can get down to FFB and Tire models, etc. Because if someone is asking "which sim?" Then they probably know little about ffb and nothing about tire model... There should really be like one of those quizzes with an equation that pops out a suggestion lol

In Assetto Corsa and in LFS, you do not loose enough of lap time by going over the limit, due to lack of dynamics, but more so in AC. This gives too much feel of safety to drivers and produces unrealistic driving styles. Namely, oversteer the car with opposite lock into the corner at turn in, and making the apex with too late turn in. None of which can be done in rFactor2. Driving too much over the limit heats and chops your tires a bit more than other Sims and from what I've seen irl, not just F1, tire management is important. In rF2 you won't gain time by going over the limit, but you won't pretty much instant die like in Iracing. This then lines up perfectly with real life. End result is, rF2 supports the most driving g styles that can come on top with same end result.
@RJW147 жыл бұрын
well, racing cars over the limit are quite erratic. The most fun tires to drive are semi slicks since they have such a broad limit and communicate exactly what is going to happen. The limit of slick tires and rain tires is much further off, but when you're there it's boom. yes, I have a racing car and have driven several slick tires on it and the toyo r888 semi slicks. Oh, 8 year old slicks are also very fun to drive because they slide easily and have almost a semi-slick like feel. Not the fastest though.

When i decided i wanted to get into sim racing i pretty much got all of them. most of them anyway. i think I'm only missing live for speed (which i don't see covered much) and rfactor 1 (which i have rf2). they all offer something different and all are worth owning and spending time in. some have vr support, some triples, some are better for competitive etc. I've dropped 10g on my gear, having stuff to run on it is the easy part....

@miy1925hassun7 жыл бұрын
I'd say this is a matter of preference as in what you want to drive. Rfactor 2 as far as I know has objectively the best tire physics and the most detailed FFB and its features make it the best endurance racing platform but it can't do LMP1 and current era F1 properly because of the lack of hybrid engine modeling(watch Empty Box's Porsche 919 video to see how important it actually is to properly simulate these cars). Automobilista surprisingly does many many things and does it all well as far as I know and it is my sim of choice when it comes to open-wheels because of this variety(and also V10s... man the V10s). But again it doesn't have model hybrid engines so if you want to drive a modern hybrid F1 car you should go for either Assetto Corsa or iRacing. The downside if Assetto Corsa though is that unlike rF2 and AMS it doesn't simulate day-night cycles or weather conditions so all those GT cars and Porsche 919 LMP1 feel kind of wasted because you can't do proper endurance racing with them. But it's also got many laser-scanned tracks and in my opinion it is the best out of this bunch for historic racing because of its content and also Aris from the legendary Power and Glory mod is behind their physics. AC is also my go to for street cars. Also I can't really say that it's got the best AI out there. You're far better off with rF2 and AMS if you'll play offline mostly. And then we have iRacing which is by far the best option for online racing. It's got the best MP structure out of all of them and has tons of great content. Buuut you'll need to pay some real money to experience it because it's more than a real pricey compared to other sims. It also has the advantage of laser-scanned tracks. It has no AI though so go for it only if you want online racing. Keep in mind that I'm only talking about recent sims because old gems like GTR 2, GTL and rFactor are still worth playing(GTR 2 is surprisingly still one of the most complete packages out there.

That's a good point , Unfortunatly I felt that 99.9% of people would have died of old age at the 25 min mark in this video so I wanted to wrap it up. That could make a good video though even do some tests. In general from my experience though on balance RF2 and AMS have the best AI oh actually I really like the AI in R3E but with AI its so specific on settings track and difficulty its hard to pick one sim over another for it. Maybe Grand Prix legends is probably the all round best sim for AI racing, probably due to amazing AI code but also the nature of older cars allowing AI more margin to be aware of whats going on and work around issues.

It all boils down to how much you want to spend on software/fancy hardware wise to think you are driving a real car around a simulated track design. Also to have all the necessary features, cars, and tracks to enjoy the game. Seems each person has their own idea what a racing game should be and feel like when driving. Once they get used to a certain racing game they like, Now, if other newer games dont match the one they are used to, they say the game is terrible. I see this all the time in the forums. i have many of the popular racing games except for Iracing and enjoy each for what they try to do. My limitations now days comes down to cost to do this kind of gaming and enjoy the time sitting down and racing.

For basic driving for the most part I prefer AC I think it has one of the most authentic tire models interms of the end result character of the cars. But then for close online racing I have had some awesome races in iRacing that can be quite hard to find in AC, Ac then also lacks a bunch of features found in RF2 and R3E. that's the problem each sim tends to do certain things or a collection of things better than the other so you have to keep jumping from sim to sim to get what you want , Have to hope for the day that we finally get a sim that does the whole package.

There's many aspects about a racing games, like the most obvious ones : choice of cars, choice of tracks. Also, usage of authentic commercial names (on cars, tracks). Didn't see complete video, but I hope you did at least mention other games than iRacing or rfactor 2. Also, the game shown, is .... I don't know. And you could show some of the strong parts of EACH such a game, in a 25 minute video, no ? But, interesting first part, although I don't care about tyre models.

Everyone talks about rfactor and other modern sims. But nothing comes close to the original GTR from early 2000s. I still play it to this day. GTR2 is okay though.

@GamerMuscleVideos8 жыл бұрын
RF2 can feel really concise in some ways, my main gripe with it at the moment is more down to how low grip the grass is and then a bunch of the stock content makes no sense to me particularly when it comes to slow corners and powering out of corners. The recent Caterham 7 is fantastic though ( aside from grass lol) kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWOUq2SQjL93l5I

the best sim would be a mixture of rfactor 2 driving, raceroom sounds and Iracing plataform. In my opinion a sim racer should compete against other sim racers . I don't give a fuck about winning against the AI. Enough said

You're totally not stupid! You're stating the obvious... everyhing interacts differently from sim to sim and from wheel to wheel even from pedal set to pedal set. Whoever thinks that a single company with limited financial and human resources could reach the ultimate physics engine is the stupid one! Plus, i got into simracing through the love of cars and the "love" for gaming as probably anyone of us (simmers) did. I'm in this for fun and also to get better at my hobbie! Every game/simulation made me laugh for different reasons! The question is stupid but more sutipd are those that can give a definite answer! Great video... you're nailing them lately! Keep up!

Bollucks!! Assetto Corsa isn’t the best at controlling a sliding car and or over the limit driving. I’ve been playing AC since early access. And for the life of me I cannot drift any car. I’ve practiced for the last 3 years, watched tons of tutorials and I am unable to initiate a slide, or hold a slide once initiated. I go online and watch guys like SlapTrain and Kajot 2111 and the cars seems to slide magically for them. I’ve given up totally and decided that I maybe just don’t have the skills or the ability to be able to do it. Then I thought to myself. I do wheelies on 1000cc sportbikes and I can’t get a PC game sim to drift? Not sure what I’m doing wrong (prior car setup?). If you are still with me there’s a point. I’m able to drift like crazy while playing “Wreckfest”. I don’t care if it’s a simcade. I’m doing opposite lock, holding drifts, modulating throttle. I try that in AC and I just spin out. The current games I have now are AC, RF2, DR, Automobilista, Wreckfest, RaceRoom, Project cars 2 Out of those games I have the most enjoyment playing these games in this order. 1. Wreckfest 2. RF2 3. Project Cars 2 4. DR 5. RaceRoom 6. Automobilista 7. AC Maybe I’m tired of the game but AC feels lifeless when driving when compared to the other sims. I read all this stuff about it being the most precise but the driving feels a little bland to me. Project cars 2 feels much more lively in my opinion.

I've only had iRacing until last week when I got AC. I can't imagine ever getting the same kind of excitement out of racing against AI as I do when racing other people. For that reason, I'll stick with iR. The reason I got AC is for the over-the-limit physics. I'd seen videos of guys pulling out of corners in big slides and wanted to let my hair down a bit, and improve my car control skills in the process. I haven't gotten into the online stuff on it yet. Probably early next week. Biggest pros of iRacing in my opinion are endurance racing and the telemetry. There's something special about building a bond with your team through a season doing 6, 12, and 24 hour races together. Using MoTeC and ATLAS to work on setup is awesome, and it's great to learn that aspect.

AESCULAPTORmark3 I hope nobody. the first thing I tried in dirt rally was seeing how stopping in gravel was emulated. stopped on a dime. game lost all credibility
@Tony-19717 жыл бұрын
Agreed. The cars just dont carry any weight. Hopefully thats been improved for Dirt 4. Ive watched some game play where the driver was on gravel and it actually looks like it has been improved. I think using the cars weight to manoeuvre it is going to be more of a thing in Dirt 4 than it wasnt in Dirt rally.

@MitchRichard658 жыл бұрын
Opposite Lock actually I had the same opinion as well, but if you listen carefully, they are actually there! it's very subtle. which is annoying because it's so crucial. what's lacking is the response of FBB for locking a tire up.

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or not but I finally bought into iracing and I'm having the most miserable experience. I can't seem to find any actual online races that are not oval tracks that don't interest me, the graphics are not very impressive, the audio isn't very good, and everything costs more money. There is so little content included with the subscription, I don't understand what I'm paying for. It's like buying a gym membership only to have to pay for the equipment once you get there.

Graphics aside, modern racing games are unrealistic. Not that the older ones were the tip of the schnitzel. No damage, no race regulations, unrealistic physics that make the racing line or what we know as the ''ideal line'' pointless, and I can add more to this list.
