I suspect the pen just needs a good thorough clean. Permanent inks can be a bit more high-maintenance to clean out properly. I’ve had the same problem using a permanent De Atramentis ink in my Lamy 2000, and unfortunately that’s not the easiest pen to clean thoroughly at the best of times. I think for these situations it may help to use pen flush or an ultrasonic cleaner

I’ve owned, sold, owned again both models. However, I’m on the verge of selling my VP again. I love all the color options but can’t get past the clip on the grip when writing and the converter is too small. I’m still glad I bought the 2K again though, albeit this time in a F where last time I had a B.

I have the same pens as yours. I don’t use permanent inks (yet) but getting some soon. My Lamy 2000 EF is bullet proof with any ink, it works with all brands of inks. My VP in matte black with F is the opposite. It skips like a beast if I write fast and I basically only ink it with Iroshizuku inks now because it works the best with this pen. I save my Iroshizuku inks for my difficult and very fine nib pens because they work the best with Iroshizuku ink.

Thanks for sharing! Exactly same feels with mine but let me try iroshizuku ink then with my vp I have this for 2yrs now and its just this time its acting up. I was thinking nib weakens in time hahaha thanks again!🥰

I wanted to update you on this. I bought a bottle of De Atramentis Document Blue Black and oh my goodness, it’s a super wet ink best for the driest of writers, it literally feels like it’s falling out of the nib sometimes. I tried it in my VP and finally found an ink which flows and doesn’t skip but this irritated me as it meant only one ink for this pen. I had a feeling that the issue wasn’t the nib unit but the converter because when I pulled the converter out and pushed it in again, the ink would flow. So….I decided to modify the Con-40 converter because it’s replaceable…I pulled out the mesh with a pair of strong tweezers along with the agitator balls. It looks similar to a Sailor converter now. I’ve inked it up and have not had any skips or hard starts with my VP since I modified the converter and now can happily use my VP with other inks. 😊

I wonder if there are issues with the ink being stuck in the feed and I have never used document inks so I'm unsure how it behaves in the VP since VP's feed and nib are somewhat unique in comparison to most nibs. My VP nibs have skipped when I would write super fast. I would suggest putting your nib unit through your ultrasonic many times if you haven't already done this. When I put my Iroshizuku ink mix into my pilot nib, it never skipped but I had it cleaned really well before that fill. Before I did that fill, it had skipping and hard starts with good black ink.

It's the carbon ink that is giving you problems in the vanishing point. The pigment particles are getting stuck.

Indonesian tap water is kind of bad, I left a bit of water in my Pilot metropolitan and it became moldy smelly. I only use distilled water to clean my gold nib pens, it only takes less than 100ml to clean them, first cycle with 50ml, then the clean 50ml second cycle

yes! I just have to deep clean the nib with my ultrasonic cleaner and just use it all the time. I heard the ink i used (platinum carbon black) also can clog sometimes😅
