I went with the Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 3080 12GB when it dropped down to $750 on Newegg ($799 before discount code) and I have zero regrets! I really only got it because it had 2x 8pins which is all my PSU has and the 4 year warranty. I'm actually very happy with it. It's nice to see that it doesn't have the bottom tier VRM.

Me too hahaha, 799 minus 70. I received a box without those little plastic seal sticker though the inner anti-static wrap has a sticker seal on it. Is it normal like that? Oh. There is a bit of coil whine though everything else is excellent.

@@3dpixel583 I think mine just had the seal on the static bag too. I got lucky with coil whine on this build, I haven't heard a peep of coil whine from my GPU or PSU. I've gotten components in the past that had it though, my Asus Strix RX 480 was the worst.

The RTX 3080 12GB is basically an RTX 3080 Ti with less cores (closer to an OG RTX 3080 10GB but performance is closer to an RTX 3080 Ti).

@@ahsaft No I said performance is closer to 3080Ti than a 3080 10GB. The performance difference comes from the wider full 384-bit memory bus. Again this video isn't meant to compare the performance against other GPUs and I never do that with my GPU buying guides. I can't compare that way since I don't have the cards myself so looking up reviews yourself is the best bet to decide which GPU is best for you. My buying guides then can help pick the best aftermarket models of said GPU you chosen.

@@ahsaft Why would you tell someone to get a 6900xt instead without knowing if they game at 4k ,like Ray tracing, or want dlss? The 12gb is priced fairly in-between the ti and non ti versions. It gives you peace of mind for future bottlenecks at 4k and 12gb its way more appealing to buyers if you plan on selling in it later on. I dont see the problem here.

I'm confused, though, about the relative placement of the MSI Gaming Z Trio 12G, with it's 390W limit, on this board in the C category, while the Gaming X Trio 10G, with it's 340W limit, was in the A category on the previous 3080 ranking video, and the Asus Tuf with it's 340W limit, still ends up in the B category.

Gigabyte rtx 3080 12gb tuf owner here. Good: Card can often be found at msrp. The cooler is excellent, I often get core of 55°c and the fan Is quiet even with high rpm. Average power usage with power limiter maxed out in msi after burner is 370w max (350 by default. I mightve gotten lucky with the silicon as it overclocks a fair bit considering the low power limit. Cons: memory temps are around 98°c to 100°c while gaming. That is because the main cooling block only covers the gpu core. The memory is cooled by fins that are separated from the main heatsink. Overall: It is a good card. Certainly better than other msrp cards. But if you can find msi gaming x trio or gigabyte master on discount, get those cards as they have a single cooler plate covering the gpu and memory so u should get better temps. Plus those overclock better thanks to higher power limits.

Thanks for the insight. I have seen people fix the high memory temps with better pads though your mileage may vary. Personally I like the seperate heatsink Asus is doing because then I can easily do a copper pad mod compared to cards with unified memory plates.

I'm pretty sure the MSI has the exact same issue but worse. If you search for 3080 memory temperature its the MSI that comes up in the results, and never the ASUS, so this is interesting. (Edit; that may have been about the 10gb versions. Still, gotta do the homework on these cards to see which ones cheaped out on cooling)

These are amazing comparisons I remeber i watched your 3080 video. At the end you said that asus tuf is most balanced but other cards in higher tier may be availble for cheaper prices in other regions And it turned out you was 100% spot on. I found asus tuff for 29 mil while game rock oc was 29,3 mil. I will pay that extra 300k to jump all way to SS tier Also found a 3080 TI for asus tuff for 36 mil while gainward phantom at 30 mil. 6 mil cheaper while it is in much higher tier compare to asus tuf. I can ignore 300k but 6 mil is alots of money

I have the MSI Ventus RTX 3080 OC 12GB, and it's overclocked at a stable 1256 Mhz on the memory and 1875 Mhz on the boost clock. It regularly boosts above 2200 Mhz on certain games (like CP2077). Clearly, a 350 watt TGP limit isn't the only factor in overclocking ability. A lot of it has to do with the "silicon lottery" and the quality of your mobo and PSU. Maybe I got a golden sample?

Ofcourse, but you can't evaluate silicon lottery. So I evaluate the factors that can affect overclocking that are fixed.

I got the Aorus Waterforce Water Block and it crashes at stock setting, I now have to tear my whole custom loop apart to try and RMA a refund, I'm praying they just refund it.... Worst card ever, locked at 48°c power limited because I have to undervolt due to crashing otherwise.. What's your opinion.... I'm going to waterblock the card. I've tested myself my RTX 3080 10GB vs 12GB based on fps of synthetic game's benchmarks (the data was all collected from Youube). Most of the games, my gpu has higher fps. I'm using Aorus RTX3080 Xtreme. It looks higher clock speed and higher power limit are matter.
