Some good info here although I must say that with todays bodies an f/4 aperture really isn't that big of a setback anymore. 5-10 years ago losing a stop of light would have been a huge deal but now it's very easy to make that up with IBIS (slower shutter speed) or higher ISO that still produces incredible images. Bokeh would certainly be better at f/2.8 but if someone wants great bokeh they should be looking into primes.

I agree! For the super budget conscious, the kit Sony 24-70mm is a wonderful lens. I did get the Sony Zeiss 24-70 f4 and though it was a bit better, it wasn't worth the extra cost. I then went through a number of prime Rokinons until I got the Sony 24-105mm. I love it! Better color rendition and so much sharper than the other lenses I had bought.

24-70 f/2.8 G Master is my go-to workhorse. Have never been disappointed with images with it. Next is the 85 f/1.4 G Master. Creamy backgrounds! For super sharpness go with Sony 28 f/2 and 55 f/1.8. The 28 also has two awesome adapters making it a 21 f/2.8 or 16 f/3.5 fisheye! My travel lens is the 24-240 f/3.5-6.3. Never ceases to impress me. The 35 f/2.8 is best for street photography. It's the lightest, smallest lens of the bunch. Last but not least the 90 macro f/2.8 is great for extreme close-ups and good for portraits! All of these lenses are very sharp in my experience. (I have been shooting Sony A7Rii and A7RIII for 3 years, switching from Nikon full frame after 10 years-D4, Df, D700 and best Nikon glass).

Sony owns a 12% share within Tamron. This probably explains why the 28-75 works like a native lens, with the ability to update the lens firmware via the camera body. Additionally, it gives me confidence that Tamron will address any issues that can be fixed via firmware updates- like they’ve done so far. I can’t wait for a 16-35 and 70-200 FE mount from Tamron - they’ve applied for the patents already!

disagree because a picture has a lot to do with 100 other factors that you would not account for, like time of the day, lighting, model, location, so you can have a shit picture taken in the g master and a better picture taken in the kit lens if you aren't perfect. So it'll only confuse you. But here you get the details in technology which shows you it's capacity.

I shoot my A6500 with all primes. The 28-70mm is the only exception. I don't mind the 28mm side which equates to 42mm on a full frame camera because there is little distortion in shooting people. I use this lens for family pics and for photographing the people who have just adopted a rescue dog from us. The IQ is just fine for this use and the variable aperture is no problem for me because I am usually shooting with bounce flash. The form factor is nice with the A6500 and you can't beat the price. I paid $125 for my used copy in mint condition...

If I started over again I would probably get the 24-105mm for my first lens. I didn’t have too many options when I chose to go with Sony but I think that the zoom lens would be a good place to start. I would get the body and the zoom lens and just shoot and keep track of my exif data. Especially the focal lengths. After a while the data would give me a pretty good idea of what focal lengths I had been using the most. This would aid me later in deciding what lens to get and add to my kit.

Switched from Canon (5DMKIII) to Sony (A7III) and have used an adapted (MC11) 24-70 f2.8L II lens and my experience has been mixed. Focussing does work and images are beautifully rendered and sharp when focus is nailed. However, when focus hunts, it doesn't just hunt, it goes on a little safari and for no good reason as light and contrast within the focus area is more than adequate. In addition, not all focussing modes are available when adapted on the MC11. Lastly, the the weight...oh boy, Although the A7III is a little lighter than the Canon, the weight distribution with this lens adapted makes this combo perceptually heavier than when mounted on my 5D.

I'm using the kit lens as a f5.6 constant. yeah it's much slower than f4 or 2.8, and f5.6 have deeper depth of field. but the thing is I don't like the more and more common bokeh/blurry background as there are more and more full frame sensors with f2.8 lenses. I came from micro four thirds world, Panasonic GH series, which unfortunately only got a f2.8 zoom to be the shallowest depth of field option. f5.6 isn't that bad, a bit of blurry background when closer and zoomed in, and almost no blurry background using the wildest end is actually pretty good. I would say it's very close to human eyes, with absolutely dramatic effects

Bao Nguyen ofc man, these things a ridiculously expensive! I don’t know if I did the right choice but so far I’m satisfied , it’s more expensive but after all, it’s Canon. Another thing for me was that the Tamron has Vc and that’s probably why the weight is about 100g more then the Canon. Those grams are important for me when I put it on the gimbal. I had it for 48h before I returned it so I don’t think I can say that I have fully tested it.

Can you please make a video with couple shoot on A7iii on 28-70 (mostly at 28 to 35 mm) with single off camera flash(like Godox TT685s) with ND filter so that we can get beautiful sky without using HSS. I Have shortlisted this kit (A7iii+28-70,1xX1T-s with TT685s, ND4, ND6, ND8 filters) as my Mirrorless Full frame starter kit. I already have Nikon D3300 (its shutter life is coming to end). Doesn't have HSS, doesn't focuses well with ND filter.

i have the 28-70 kit lens and it is only o.k., it do not fit really to a high end camera like the Sony A7 range IMO, but for family or casual shooting it is......... o.k. if money is a concern i would better go for a prime lens as a starting point, even a vintage manual lens like a minolta MC 58mm 1.4 will make you more happy, then the 28-70 kit lens IMO and.... yes...... thanks for this great video

The problem is many people spend all their money on a top notch camera (like A7III) leaving no money for good lenses. Three or five years later they upgrade their obsolete camera, keeping their bad lenses. Image quality is a combination of brain, sensor and lens. The sensor alone is unable to produce good results. Greetings from Brazil.

Awesome video. say if you own 25 mm batis, 55 mm zeiss and 85 mm sony, would it make sense to still own a standard zoom lens? I currently own a 24-105g

I enjoyed your video - thank you. Most of lenses are Zeiss primes and so I am having a hard time finding a telephoto with IQ that approximates primes. Of course that may not be possible. Have you had any experience with the Sigma 28mm ART?

how about checking 24-70 zeus’s with a7c mark 2 for OSS
@artmaltman6 жыл бұрын
Well done! Do you know whether optical steady shot works with non-Sony lenses? I have the impression that you have to manually set the focal length to use OSS with a non-Sony prime, and so zooms might be unworkable. But perhaps the newer adapters communicate the focal length?

Thank you, but more pictures to compare so we can evaluate the pro's and con's. Is it really worth dropping the money on a walk around lens you are going to bin all results anyway? I bought my first zoom in the 1980's and first roll was absolutely horrible, soft, low contrast, all the rolls was just to bin and I quickly went all primes. I know the zooms, but not ALL zooms, are better today, but I can adapt some really good ol' glass with the LA-EA4 and save my buck if this lens is a bomb.

Have the 24-105 Sony and at f8 and f11 when I shoot outdoors I've been getting a lot of vignetting (and not a big fan of it). Wondering if this is normal? Thinking of trading it in for a 24-70mm. Hear good things about the Sigma art lense. And curious to hear anyone's thoughts on this -- have the Zeiss 16-35 and the Sony 85mm (which I LOVE). Thanks so much.

Jared Kessler A lot of lens do vignetting, when you edit your photos in Lightroom go into your camera lens profile and you can adjust your distortion and the vignetting of the lens! Very useful I do it on every pictures!

I had the 24-70mm GM, but it was too heavy and I sold it. I'm over heavy lenses. I now own the 24-105mm G lens. And I'm thinking about replacing it with primes.
@RiccardoGabarriniKazeatari6 жыл бұрын
But what about a comparison between the sony 24-105 and the tamron 28-75? You've compared the tamron to the GM, that means it's way better than the 24-105 even if almost half the price? Please respond, I can't decide what should I get! Thx!
