Something that just clicked for me about Daala: she'a said to be a tactical genius, but only according to Tarkin. The 'fear first, practicality later' guy responsible for the master of none ISD, not bothering to defend the Death Star against starfighters (in design or tactics), and generally favoring big flashy shit that only worked because the Empire had numbers. Daala tried the exact same tactics, but didn't have the numbers and thus failed horribly

Eh that's not really what she was described as. She was described as exceptionally skilled at Zero-G/3d Maneuver. And was also racking up serious wins on the simulated wargames under her fake account. (In fact someone once told me the Death Star novelization had her get some form of brain damage? Not sure if it was a bump on the head or some sorta O2 deprivation)

@@papapalps2415 Yes, though they also said several of her tactics were adopted and used successfully by other commanders. Maybe she's just really really bad under pressure. Alternatively her 3d/Zero G maneuver stuff was for something like Spacetroopers and bumping her up to admiral when she was better fit for a more specialized command was a huge fuckup. (If you do headcanon it to Spacetroopers it's Tarkin stealing one of the most promising Spacetrooper commanders from Rom Mohc, which is fun.)

@@DIEGhostfish I always figured the simulated wargames were like Imperial vs Imperial tactics wise, leaving her weak to Rebel/New Republic tactics, but you raise a good point I forgot. That does make her sound like a tactical rather than strategic commander though, which might have been her problem when trying to lead the Empire. Winning a wargame is simpler than a real war due to logistics being usually simplified, especially without an Empire to replace losses and expended materiel. If she'd been under say, Thrawn to have someone to handle the big picture while she used her tactical skill to pull off key battles maybe she'd be a much more credible threat.

Daala was too obsessed with rebuilding the Empire until after the Vong War, Fey'lya was too obsessed with his own power, Snoke was a literal meat puppet, and the Imperial Remnant didn't find a competent leader until Pellaeon took over.

Pellaeon was a great leader, we cannot really count his actions at Endor and Bilbringi as failures because he was just a Captain, officers of higher rank would have ignored him completely. He already demonstrated competence by being able to convince the fleet to retreat at Endor despite not being the most senior officer present. You should have put Ysanne Isard or Sate Pestage, or the Emperor from Crimson Empire, they were far more incompetent imo.

4:25 That's not remotely fair. Pellaeon was NOT the leader after Endor, he was just First Officer on the third communications ship at Endor. He had the authority to order the retreat because of how the chain of command worked for that battle, but once everyone had evacuated to the Rally Point, leadership went back to the highest ranked officer present. He had no authority to give orders.

I sort of liked the way Daala’s reign was slowly falling apart mostly because of her past issues with confidence since a lot of the Imperial leaders didn’t exactly trust or put confidence in her so she couldn’t function if she couldn’t control the situation. One of the biggest reasons that Luke Guy isn’t really good at Galactic geopolitics. Picking a leader who can’t function when the circumstances are fluid and put her into a democracy. And then pick a guy that has no charisma for leading and have him lead a quasi dictatorship.

To me, Snoke seems like a complete neutral in terms of leadership. Palpatine was the one who set everything up for Snoke's beating the republic. Meanwhile, Snoke made terrible staffing decisions (Hux and Phasma, no brains and no loyalty) humiliated and undermined his underlings, failed to have any effective foresight leading to the loss of Starkiller and his own flagship. I still agree with your placement, since his negatives are fairly minor compared to the other two, but I don't think his successes are due to his ability as a leader.

In fairness to Daala, all of Pellaeon's success comes out of HER reunification of the Imperial remnants. She is the one who ended the warlord period when no one else could, because she cared about the Empire and not just itself. Similarly, her stepping aside and giving Pellaeon control was an act of admirable patriotism. While her paranoia and anti-Jedi attitudes obviously didn't help the GA, it had some justification. She at least cared about the well-being of her various factions, which is more than can be said for Fey'lya.

The part I've always found both hilarious and sad is that Daala was supposedly billled as competent leader, and her relationship with Tarkin seemingly was supposed to be just slanderous gossip, yet not only she was put to Maw Installation by Tarkin, but even when she had returned after the second civil war, she was vouched for by admiral Bwua'tu, meaning that she only gained her position of power because of her relationship with another man =)

Daala gets a lot of hate and a lot of people always settle that she's lacking in tact but really if you consider her as loyal to the empire and always working for the empire she's quite the devoted zealot and she's absolutely terrifying. Like Tarkin before her she's willing to do anything. Kill anyone. To achieve the return of the Empire she'd go to the ends of the galaxy. I love her character. So flawed and yet also so strong.

All I saw was a base more expensive to build than the second Death Star (that defies physics and logic), a fleet of starships that defy Physics AND established canon, and fanatical troops born and bred for violence, ALL OF WHICH was totally ignored by the New Republic, except for Leia Organa and her Resistance? I guess that makes sense in a Universe when the person who embodies HOPE in the Galaxy has turned into a cranky old fart. The man who literally turned himself in and threw away his only defense against the Emperor in the Hope of redeeming the father he only learned months before WAS his father. The man who, in the two times they had met before had tried to kill him and maimed him. HE gives up because his nephew was tempted to the Dark Side and tries to KILL HIM IN HIS SLEEP?!? Tarkin doctrine is about destroying rebel morale with overwhelming force and terror. It's central motif is the most effective use of force to keep a galaxy tidy and in order.

@@papapalps2415 I’ll say it again. Valve has stated many many many times they have countless universes under their control and are out to control the entire multiverse. By the way in case you aren’t getting it Valve has the final say on their own canon. Even the HL Wiki describes the Combine as quote “a massive empire spanning countless parallel universes and dimensions.” And “The Combine’s ultimate goal is to conquer and harness the entire multiverse.” So. Your just kinda wrong. I don’t need any other points is my whole premise. Most sci fi civilizations (Galactic Empire, UNFC, The Covenant, Etc Etc) typically a territorial extent of a few star systems to 1 Galaxy. Some like Borderlands apparently have explored 13 Galaxies. There are indeed very few sci fi governments that span an entire universe Even so let’s just look at pure numbers. Astronomers believe that judging from images based on the Hubble Space Telescope the universe has between 100 billion - 200 billion galaxies. My point? The Combine massively, conclusively, and outrightly outnumber any sci fi government. 1 galaxies worth of Troops is nothing next to 1 universe worth of manpower let alone countless universes worth of manpower. Do you get my point? Even if we lowballed The Combine and said that 100% of their army is identical to the Earth Branch we see in half life, the very fact that they literally outnumber their opponents by literal orders of magnitude means that they win via swarming or via attrition. So no it’s not “farcical” to make my assumptions. There is nothing “patently absurd” about it. It’s called doing basic math and literally taking Valve’s own statements about the lore of the Combine. So unless you want to argue 1 soldier from say the Imperium of Man is worth 1 trillion or more Combine Soldiers there isn’t an argument that you can make for most sci fi government surviving a Combine Invasion

My thoughts: Daala was a complete moron who managed to fail upwards. Pellaeon may have had his failures, but he is the least incompetent of the bunch and generally knew when to cut his losses. Probably the second-best leader the Imperial Remnant got, second to Thrawn. Feylya was an archetypal corrupt politician, no backbone and a head perpetually stuck up his posterior. Can we really consider Snoke a leader when he was basically Palpatine's puppet?

One of the issues with Daala is that she was basically a cartoon villain that needed to lose every single episode so that the heroes can win. Similarly Feylya is holding the idiot ball often simply so that the plot can advance and the villains get a win. The Vong for example needed a way to become the massive threat they were meant to be. ...And writers must have decided that the easiest way to do this is by having Feylya make another mess and let the enemies get a foothold in the galaxy with little resistance, so that dislogding them would no longer be easy even as the other factions in the galaxy join the fight.

Tho im also aware there is a difference between the prohet's covenant and Jul mdama's covenant. Id love to see a comparisom in weaponry, ships, or even just living conditions between these factions. I think I have some ideas well to actually for some future videos I like to see one it would show what would happen if the new Republic took the Fret Vector Prime or seriously what could have happened then if the new Republic actively and immediately attacked the yuuzhan vong at Vector Prime before the full invasion Force could come in and could you please give us a full in-depth analysis of the Imperial Splinter faction known as the second Imperium as all some other interest but their factions existed after the battle of Endor out of the Seas just return the videos please and honestly say I think they're very important topic to discuss

Personally I always like Dalaa, and it seems toe that she was painted with the same brush as other incompetent warlords and nobody ever gave her justice reducing her gradually to caricature. That being said I believe she had more successes than she was given credit. Further much of her failures in FoJ were actually in the very groundwork before she came to power. 1) The Jedi were restive after seeing former imperials rise to occupy the highest offices of the government, especially Admiral Dalaa. Anything she did was going to be opposed by the Jedi who viewed her as a hostile presence. 2) The Jedi were in severe disfavor with the GA after nearly two decades of continuous disaster. First was the disastrous war with the Vong, which most in the GA viewed as being the fault of the Jedi in large part due to the sitting government of the time. The the Swarm War and then the Second Galactic Civil War devastated significant swaths of the galaxy and again the Jedi were at the heart of both conflicts. Thus popular galactic sentiment moved her to try to reign in the Jedi. 3) The Jedi began suffering from members going insane do to Abeloth's influence. This again forced her hand against the Jedi even as Abeloth began advancing through the galaxy. 4) An unstable government is what she inherited after the death of Jacen Solo. The likelihood is that if she were not forced aside by the Jedi, she would have been forced aside by the Senate.
