Uh guys, the All Terrain Heavy Scout didn't actually have wheels and wasn't an All Terrain Heavy Hauler like we saw towing the Super Laser Battering Ram. It was actually suppose to be an escort TO said AT-HHs, and it probably wasn't cut because it was bad so much as the two massive AT-HHs were already hard to make out on the horizon, meaning you could barely even see the AT-ST sized AT-HSs. As +NickDaGeek points out, the AT-HS is suppose to move more like a spider, and that wider stance would make it far more stable than it's predecessor the AT-ST. The only thing I can really dock the AT-HS for is that, from both the Lego Model and one of the FEW images of it we have from the artbook, it doesn't have any head/neck articulation, meaning it might be forced to directly face anything it wants to shoot at. i.stack.imgur.com/ov0Uy.png

@kingandcountry12427 жыл бұрын
Brick Guardian There’s also the TIE Mauler from Empire at war
@Ryan-he6vm7 жыл бұрын
Yes it is
@Duncecap647 жыл бұрын
Yeah the Tie Mauler, atleast that one is pratical. It kind of fills the role of "Scout/Light tank" in its game since its fast, has good mobility, turns on a dime, has powerful rapid fire cannons, is small despite being a TIE design (the thing is quite small), can run over opponents or be used as a suicide bomber. The fixed gun is kind of annoying but its something we have worked around IRL if you look at the Swedish STRV tank (Yes its a tank). Its only downside is how fragile it is to heavy weaponry and other tanks but it can atleast manuver around. This Tie tank however, uses MK 4 tank style treads for no reason since you dont need the track to go around the vheicle to make it work, it makes the tracks vunurable, has too large a target profile from the side when it doesn't need to be that big, despite its size it has no turret, the tracks are barely held together and serve no purpose at that size, Its slow, easy to flank, has no shields, no armor, why did they make this thing?

Yes but wasn’t the AT-OT meant to transport troops across already claimed territory, hence why we see it at Grievous’s ‘base’ where he died AFTER the battle was won...
@MobiusLeader0077 жыл бұрын
Cat Guy That still doesn't make them good. They're still bad. I'd rather take a ride on an AT-TE, a hover veichle, or a LAAT. The AT-OT moving troops through battles ALREADY WON serves no purpose. Other vehicles can do that just fine. Battlefields can also still have booby traps or leftover stragglers that could snipe your troops on an OPEN transport. AT-OTs are just a waste of manpower and Republic credits.
@oracleofspace39317 жыл бұрын
Eh, it comes down to how cheaply they can be built. If they cost half as much as an AT-TE, then it makes sense to deploy these where they won't see combat so you don't have to delegate an AT-TE to cargo transport.
@kingandcountry12427 жыл бұрын
Also there are arguments that the open top allows for easier placement of large cargo instead of troops and that the walker could be used where ships are not available/possible.
@matthiuskoenig33787 жыл бұрын
the AT-OT is actually a good transport, think about it-it tall so most enmemies don't have the angle to shoot the gies inside. its tall so you can't lob a grenade inside, its tall so the troops inside can fire out(because no roof) and shoot over friendlies and enemy cover. i'd like to see a booby trap that can kill an AT-OT's crew that couldn't kill an AT-TE.its also defenately cheaper because armour is expensive and so is a big gun and it can carry a whole lot of troops.the clones inside have armour to protect them from the elements so it doesn't need a roof. besides anyone here heard of ww2 and vietnam-in ww2 all transports had an open top and they were fine and in vietnam the M113 useually had its back hatchs pen for visability and more firepower. the only reason this is bad is grenades (which is mitigated by hight in AT-OT) and enemies in higher places which is mitigated except in super cities by the hight of the AT-OT)i would rather be in an AT-OT then an LAAT/i because the LAAT has less armour and can't hide in cover and i can't provide accurate fire with out being completly exposed in a stationary open target. AT-TEs are preferable but too expensive to have all the men in them and turbo tanks are too big for most operations and suffer from the 'elephant syndrome' a wargamers term for something that draws alot of fire when ist on the table top becauseof how deadly it is. all tanks suffer from this but the more powerful the tank and the bigger it is the more things are shooting at it. an open toped transport is less of a target and thus more likely to servive long enough to deploy its troops. remember in the clone wars TV show a turbo tank was destroyed by a mix of B1 and B2s with out AT weapons it was just over heated by sheer numbers. an AT-OT also has more of a focused design-carry troops and provide cover while doing this and its limited weapons and armour means its not galavanting aroud like a tank but is limited to support role. an AT-Te or a turbo tank is an BT that can carry troops this means the vehicle is a primary combat vehicle and cn't afford to aby sit infantry all the time the infantry it carries are to support and protect it like in the Merkava MBT
@frostwyrm3337 жыл бұрын
This. It's a jungle transport. Having no roof is better against ambushes and survivability I guess.

Gotta say, the OG-9 had a killer gun, that "homing" laser is one of the only "lasers" in Star Wars that actually behave like a laser. It could actually sweep the laser across whole regiments or slice aircraft from the sky. If it had the ray shielding that the CIS super tank had the clones would've been screwed. Maybe just some plot armor.
@axjkalsok10587 жыл бұрын
RaeSyngKane well part of the reason for blasters and laser cannons not behaving like lasers is because theyre not. Despite the name, laser cannons and blasters fire what are essentially balls of plasma/superheated gas. While that isnt necessarily the way plasma behaves either, it does explain why some weapons have a constant beam and some fire “shots”.
@xxvaltielxx17897 жыл бұрын
Those aren't the only ones, the LAAT gunship's composite beam cannons were another.
@RaeSyngKane7 жыл бұрын
Isaac Delgass that's why I put them in quotes. The OG-9 actually does have speed of light velocity shots with no drop off and maintains it for a considerable time. A pretty nasty combo to deal with. xX Valtiel Xx Yup, and having seen the devastation that those inflicted through sweeping across droids just imagine what one upgraded to a vehicle main armament could do.
@HalfDemonInuyasha7 жыл бұрын
+Isaac Delgass Yeah, I remember seeing that in the Star Wars Tech documentary. Also used to explain why the Death Star super lasers combined into a single stronger beam rather than passing through each other or why lightsabers are able to maintain a certain length rather than just shooting out infinitely, or are able to make contact with each other and other objects rather than, again, simply passing through each other.

I like that both these list have a “weird but great for its role” item. The taun taun and the K-Wing are awesome! Star Wars ground vehicles are insane. Real life armored vehicles tend to look kind of samey - as low and flat as possible so it’s hard to spot, treads or wheels, and most importantly TURRETS so they can shoot in any direction. Star Wars ground vehicles are very tall - if the Rebels had given their big ion cannon on Hoth a better range of fire it could have taken the AT-ATs out easily. They’re usually legged, which makes them easy to trip up and doesn’t help with the “too tall” thing. And they almost never have turrets! Given how cheap and reliable whatever technology the speeders use is, you’d expect to see more of those. The scout speeders on Endor are probably the best ground vehicles in the movies. Any faction that made a sweet hovertank based on speeder technology would probably clean up in battle.

hey guys, great content as always. I must express I feel you guys are missing the idea behind the AT-OT. See first lemme remind peeps that many of Lucases designs are based on real world designs, namely things like WWII vehicles. we can see a few examples of this: the P-38 fighter (utapau) literally looks just like the P-38 Lightning fighter in RW and the LAAT-I is based on modern attack helicopters like the Hind. The AT-OT is basically the SW equivalent to an APC (armored Personnel carrier) and more notably, like that of a halftrack. See, recon and APC units were always lightly armored and typically open topped in WWII due to saving weight for speed and so that the passengers can disembark in a real hurry if there was an emergency (ie oh shit its on fire). also many APC designed were opened top with the idea so that the passengers could engage ground troops with personal weapons. APCs were typically half tracked in WWII as a means to get better travel on both roads and cross country, so I feel the walker design is meant to reflect that. more legs means its harder to immobilize and rides smoother over terrain. Anyway, still great stuff, just wanted to share. have a great one!

Bombastic and Eckhart got a lot wrong. TIE Centry Tanks are light tanks, they don't need to fight vehicles like a medium or heavy tank, they have A LIGHT TURBO LASER, its printed on the blueprints on the screen and you guys said "it barely has any weapons..." That Light Turbo Laser is turreted and because it has a Light Turbo Laser its better armed than most the ground vehicles in SW. TIEs don't really have blind spots considering the scanning equipment they have that is imposed in the helmet mounted display, the only thing they are blind to is things that can't be detected and features of giant objects maybe, or if theirs scanning composite system is dead or disabled. I doubt The Heavy Scout has wheels, you are looking at a toy made to have its legs move and thats how the toy was made. Lastly they use open top transports outside of combat, they were not in combat in that scene that you showed at least yet. That was wrong to criticize it and some of the other vehicles here, for things they are not designed to do and or neglecting to bring up features they have, and also not knowing how some weapons or vehicles are used.

I think the idea behind the AT-OT is that it carries more passengers than the other walkers in the Republic army at the time. It does provide some protection from blaster small arms fire and land mines, while allowing most of its passengers to fire out of it, it's basically a portable trench. Not the best infantry fighting vehicle, but similar to the half tracks used during WWII.

Not only to TIE tanks have crap visibility but they have worse fields of fire. Fixed forward firing guns that are below the driver. So you can't hide most of your vehicle form enemy fire nor can you shoot in any other direction but straight forward. There isn't even any hydraulics to make minute changes. The driver will miss any enemy that is not sitting directly in front of them and ranges longer the a few hundred metres.

lancer737 although the one of the laser cannons on the Tie tank is turreted it is even lower than the standard laser cannons of a Tie. To use it effectively you would have to be, as my old tank commander would say, "balls up to the world". A light vehicle like that would be a scouting or anti-infantry vehicle and that coupled with its weak armour means you would want as much cover like walls, hills or vegatation between you and whatever's shooting at you. If they put the turreted laser cannon on the top it would make it much better as the vehicle could shoot and hide and the same time. The open topped clone Walker is definitely a bad idea as you can't always know what is and isn't a combat zone. A small detachment of droids with shoulder fired anti-tank rockets could destroy them as they have no upper armour. Even without rockets a small group ambushing them could cause critical casualties to the clones with only small arms. While the clones have armour you can concentrate fire as they as stuck so close together in the Walker. That is why we stopped using them after WW2.

Quote although the one of the laser cannons on the Tie tank is turreted it is even lower than the standard laser cannons of a Tie. To use it effectively you would have to be, as my old tank commander would say, "balls up to the world". Quote Not necessarily, its an anti-captial ship gun, it will blast right through whatever it is behind and hit what was beyond the object blocking it as long as its not a full blown ship. Quote A light vehicle like that would be a scouting or anti-infantry vehicle and that coupled with its weak armour means you would want as much cover like walls, hills or vegetation between you and whatever's shooting at you. Quote Not in this case, they gave it a ant-capital ship gun. Also excluding different types of tactical jammers, hidding behind kills, vegetation, and Quote If they put the turreted laser cannon on the top it would make it much better as the vehicle could shoot and hide and the same time. Quote Not with SW sensrs. Quote The open topped clone Walker is definitely a bad idea as you can't always know what is and isn't a combat zone. A small detachment of droids with shoulder fired anti-tank rockets could destroy them as they have no upper Armour. Quote Fixating on one weapon type wont help. Quote Even without rockets a small group ambushing them could cause critical casualties to the clones with only small arms. While the clones have armour you can concentrate fire as they as stuck so close together in the Walker. That is why we stopped using them after WW2. Quote, That is not true, we still use them now.

lancer737 the turreted weapon may be able to shoot through walls and trees but the driver can't see through them, unless he blind fires it is useless. What I meant by hiding and firing is if the weapon was on top the vehicle could hide most of its hull behind a hill or wall and still fire. In the military it was the difference between cover and concealment. One stops the enemy seeing you, the other stops the enemy hitting you. The only open topped vehicles still in use are unarmoured recon vehicles like Hummers or Land Rovers. The walker is roughly the same size, same weight as the AT-TE yet it has half the firepower and no protection for its embarked troops. This will be like taking a tank and turning it into an open topped personnel carrier. What vehicle are you talking about. We stopped using SDKFZ 251's, BTR 50's or Bren Gun carriers because they didn't provide enough cover. Modern APC's like the M2 Bradley, Warrior, BMP-3 or BTR are all enclosed to provide protection against small arms, artillery fragments, and the weather.

@Max Power Quote the turreted weapon may be able to shoot through walls and trees but the driver can't see through them, unless he blind fires it is useless. Quote Considering their sensors on TIES pierce the hulls and decks of massive 40 million ton ships and they tell them how many people are on those ships, what race their are, who they are, and many other attributes of the Ship, as long as ECM isn't disrupting their systems. A Tree or Wall will mean nothing. The Sensors in the 10 Class special Forces NAVY Commando droid are extremely small and it can pierce the bulkheads and walls of said capital ships so the Commandos can see enemies through said things. Said sensor is like maybe a 10th of the size of the sensors on Regular TIE Fighters and TIE Centry Tanks. Quote What I meant by hiding and firing is if the weapon was on top the vehicle could hide most of its hull behind a hill or wall and still fire. Quote Not from enemies, or at the most enemies that have noticed a TIE Tanks with its ECM active hiding behind obstacles they can see through with their own sensors. Even if its powered down it runs the high risk of being spotted by sensors used by the enemies. Quote The only open topped vehicles still in use are unarmored recon vehicles like Hummers or Land Rovers. Quote There are more than that they are a sub type of IFV used by multiple Countries. Quote The walker is roughly the same size, same weight as the AT-TE yet it has half the firepower and no protection for its embarked troops. Quote Since its not meant to be used in actual combat, at least carrying people, thats not that big of deal unless you are gonna chastise every vehicle designer that has made a vehicle like it in real life that is still in use for not being paranoid enough to assume they are gonna be attacked anywhere they are even in non-combat areas. Quote This will be like taking a tank and turning it into an open topped personnel carrier. Quote Not really as they are not even related except for sharing the same type of propulsion system. Quote What vehicle are you talking about. Quote Again you are mistaking the type of job that walker has for an APC now, the APC is the AT-TE out of all the vehicles used in the Republic. I may have accidentally erased it, but I think you mentioned risk of arty strike, well open topped or not, an arty round will kill pretty much any vehicle, and despite the accuracy of weapons in SW, as far as I have seen we still don't have weapons accurate enough, espically arty, that can bulls eye openings in open top vehicles.

The cold on Hoth being a problem never made sense. You’re telling me that the planet is colder than the vacuum of space?
@TheRodentMastermind4 жыл бұрын
Vaccums are not hot or cold, they are an absence of particles to be hot or cold. In fact the main issue in space is overheating not cold, there is no atmosphere so heat can not be transferred away from someone. Also in a moisture rich enviroment you get ice crystals forming on machinery which you don't get in space.
@flyingviking21494 жыл бұрын
@@TheRodentMastermind if shielded from solar radiation ie in the shadow of a planet or other body the temperature of space is -445F. No way Hoth is colder than that with a breathable atmosphere
@TheRodentMastermind4 жыл бұрын
@@flyingviking2149 That's not how it works. You need a medium for heat to transfer between. Space is a vacuum so no heat can transfer (similar to double glassing). Which is why the real issue in space for Astronauts is overheating.
@flyingviking21494 жыл бұрын
@@TheRodentMastermind that is exactly how it works. There may be no conduction or convection, but there is still radiation. Everything gives off infrared radiation the hotter the more it gives off. The problem with over heating is that lapse rate is slower than the radiation from the sun heats. That’s why the shadow part is important. In the shadow so no solar radiation is absorbed an object eventually cools to -455F. Even if it is it’s own shadow. The side facing the sun will heat up and the side away will be cold. Depending on the orbit is the max temperature. Our distance things heat up to ~250F near Venus that would be ~800F

As far as the AT-OT: 1, open transports are used regularly, although further from front lines. Rain happens, and "I'd rather walk" is from someone who has never gone on a 20 mile hump with full gear (or 5 miles with 125+ pounds)

Yeah the Wheels on the FO Walker are for the toy, it's a common trick LEGO does (primarily to improve efficiency of scooting toys on carpets). It's locomotion is like those two tow vehicles that were pulling the Siege weapon.

In defensw of the ATOT: open topped transports offer several good benefits. The troopers can use any set of man portable weapons including mounted e webs or support weapons from its back. Troopers are able to quickly evac or disembark. If the vehicle is disabled they arent trapped inside. The elevated position gives them commanding arcs of vision and fire while offering cover against ground fire. Personally i would use this in dangerous and bad visibility environments like a jungle for a moving firebase/FOB. The legs do seem too close together to allow much speed but they are much better than wheels for difficult terrain.
@ToaArcan2 жыл бұрын
Fun fact, the TIE Crawler is one of the only EU-exclusive vehicles to get turned into a Lego set. The others were the TIE-Droid drone fighter (exclusively in a collection with two regular TIEs and the TIE Advanced), the _Rogue Shadow,_ the TX-130 (which didn't turn up in post-Disney canon until EAfront II), the _Azure Angel,_ and the TIE Defender (Which also got a set long before it was recanonised in Rebels). Everything else is from stuff that remained in Disney Canon without interruption, or stuff Lego made up entirely.
@MediumRareOpinions6 жыл бұрын
In fairness to the open transport, it allows it to load up large cargo loads that are taller than its rear compartment is. Troopers can also fire out of the transport as with this real life tank conversion en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kangaroo_(armoured_personnel_carrier)

In regards to the AT-OT, you kinda have to think about the clip you used for an example of it in action. It was in Felucia, so while yes a Juggernaut tank is better it wouldn't be as good for traversing planets with difficult terrain i.e. Felucia

Soo extra tidbit the tie tank was mentioned and usable in star wars empire at war series however it was called the tie mauler and essentially deployed to swarm or lightning strike suicide missions. If a tie mauler would to fall apart at the seams the piolet either indoctrinated to never return or a heroic action depending on the propaganda your reading from, would move as close to the enemy as possible to initiate thrself distruct sequence which just moves the explosion from your tank squad to the enemy.

You know how, in the game Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds, that the Rebel Mounted Troopers used Tauntauns? Throwing in a critique on that, and/or using them in Rebel Strike and Jedi Academy might've been a nice touch. We probably would've gotten a laugh out of you picking apart why they'd risk their loving mounts by using a point-blank-range flamethrower in Battlegrounds or why mounting a Tauntaun inexplicably gives you unlimited blaster rifle ammo in Rebel Strike.

AT-HS: When you look at street-track-vehicles used by train track maintenance workers, you will see something similar,just with two different kinds of wheels. What I think this vehicle does is it can switch between using the wheels and using the legs depending on terrain. This makes a lot of sense when trying to develop a fast vehicle still capable of crossing terrain only a walker can.
