It never occurred to me that this might matter. Thank you for explaining!

I never realized turning your work one way or the other would make a difference, but it does! Thanks for sharing.

Very enlightening. 😊 Now does it matter if you chain then turn or turn then chain?

Thank you for this. I always knew you have to be consistent, but did not realize you get a different look depending on which direction you turn.

Great explanation. I knew to stay consistent with the turn, but turning towards me, thread to the back, felt more natural so that it what I have usually done. I will have to practice the opposite to get those neater edges 😊

What a great comparison. I always wanted a better way to do my turns so the sides looked better. I will definitely try this. Thank you.

I have always turned with the yarn in back. I didn't like how it felt to have the yarn in front. I'll have to try and see if I like the look of turning in front better.

I never thought about this too much, but it really makes a difference. Perhaps this is why some of my edges on finished items are nicer looking than on other projects. Excellent point to show us all. The first sample you did looked the nicest.

Thank you! I just recently became more conscious of turning my work and it does make a difference.

Fascinating. I have always turned my work so the yarn is behind the piece simply because it's easier to grab that yarn to make the first stitch of the new row. Thank you for setting me--and my crochet projects--straight!

Gah! The videos I learned with (waaay back) always showed the yarn-to-back method or else said it didn’t matter. Right now I’m working on a scarf and unhappy with the untidy sides so I’ll try turning yarn-to-front to see if it helps. Thanks for the tip!

Clockwise vs counter clockwise. Love it! I've been using the counterclockwise method since i learned to crochet. Good to see the comparison.

I never knew this, crocheted all my life. At 76 I'm still learning! You never get too old. What about grabbing the yarn with your hook to pull it through a stitch as you work? Do you grab it from underneath, or over the top? I do it both ways. Does it matter? Lol, I'm thoroughly confused! 💕💕💕

Never occurred to me to turn my work this way...I always turn with yarn in back. I agree that with yarn in front it looks smoother. Next project I'll turn to front. 😊😊

So is the left piece with cleaner edge, yarn in front considered turning to left or right?

I think the main takeaway is that your yarn must be in the front after you turned.
