You're a great teacher. I pray for a good day before I go in and sometimes I go out into my car during lunch or planning to pray a rosary (or at least throw up a couple Hail Mary's). I think it's just a trend now everywhere where difficult kids are REALLY difficult but you've got this.

I am going to try changing my language from "I like/love" to "I see/notice." I had never really thought about the importance of the wording before, but everything you said is so true. My kiddos are not at school to do things I "like" or to make me happy. That will be a natural byproduct of seeing them become accountable and responsible for their own behavior !! :)

This came up just in time. I'm so worried about going in tomorrow! I'm going in one hour earlier than my usual time since I was out for all FIVE days last week. (I had the flu and I'm feeling a lot better). Anyway, I plan on redirecting and being to the point. I can be so long-winded that by the time I finished "redirecting" my student(s) have forgotten what I said to begin with . Thanks for sharing!

I would love to do morning meeting, but we have mandatory breakfast in the classroom. It has to be after the school day begins and it takes the first 15 minutes or more of our day. If I don't get started with our other work, we won't get it all in. I still want to read this book and see if I can find a way to work it all in. I've been teaching for 31 years and this year I am really having challenges with behaviors.

We do this in our special education class. "Jacob is setting a good example on how to sit with a still body and quiet mouth" "Can we sit like Jacob? "What a great example, thank you Jacob."

Those are excellent tools for dealing with kids. Teachers aren't their best friends, they are authority figures who direct them not only in education but in behavior. Kids will test you mercilessly unless you show them who is Alpha in the room. In my experience most kids that age do better with structure and are not mature enough to handle freedom.

Hi sorry I know I mentioned this before, but can you make an updated version of your field trip video? I could really use help on what you do on the actual field trip because I am a tour guide for the largest Egyptian museum in North America and it gets a bit crazy at times. Thanks :)

I wish teachers didn't tell students they are going to have a sub the next day... I have better days when the students don't know I'm going to be there...when the seed is planted the day before I feel they are thinking of all the fun they are going to have the next day doing the opposite of what their teacher normally has them do

Thank you soooo much for this video. Like you I am kind of frustrated with some students behaviour. I will take your advise although I teach Second grade but the difficult ones are older 9 to 11. I will take your advise and hope for the best.

Love the idea of monthly progress reports. Is there a template you use? Story: Earlier this year I was out and one of my loves decided to steal the subs phone. As you can imagine it became a big thing. Long story short he kid must have gotten scared bc the sub was able to locate that the phone was in the room and they put it in my paras purse.

I didn't realize you taught at an intermediate school! Not many disricts have those(at least around me) . We do though, we have 7 Elemantries 1 Intermediate (5th and 6th) and 1 middle (7th and 8th) and HS is 9th-12th. And I love that you don't get on to the whole class when its not the whole class (which it hardly ever is) What would you do if it was most of the class but like 5-8 kids were really good? Also i love that you mention kids who have other things which they're being pulled for that don't get their school work done and that you only will pull recess for all students. For some. ( like myself) that'll only make things worse.

@BridgingLiteracy
@BridgingLiteracy 8 жыл бұрын
+moiraonthemap the idea is build intrinsic motivation. If they are simply changing the behavior to please me then there is no self awareness or desire to become better. We want outlet kids to WANT to be better.
