Great advise. I set up for the test cycle and I am waiting. Here is a tip. You can use your digital multimeter as a fused jumper if you set it for amps. Only thing….. Chang the battery in your smoke detector 😁

I’d like to thank you for this video. Your instructions literally saved me from buying a new ice maker that I thought was bad. I had watched another video that left out one very important step which was “pressing the door switch”. When I tested the ice module with the jumper it did nothing, so I was going buy a new one and then came across your video. Turns out I just needed to reset it due to a power outage. Thanks again!!!!!

Excellent! Thanks for the straight-up explanation and footage of the operation and test procedures on this. You are about the only resource that actually sheds decent light and makes good sense! The whole Ice-Maker thing is pretty simple, once someone explains it. Most other resources don't mention anything about the freeze/temperature sensor, and how slowly the ice ejector turns, and most importantly how to trigger the testing of the ice ejector and the water-fill cycles. Now that I know how all that works, it's obvious how to determine what's actually wrong. Cudos my good man!

Thanks for posting. I replaced my main water valve on the bottom back. It was not cutting off, was filling the ice holder up. What I found is that when I took the cover off of the ice maker up top, it was caked with ice preventing the dial from turning. I got a long BBQ pit lighter and carefully melted the ice away....so I never got a chance to use my test wire jumper since it started cycling as soon as the ice was cleaned away. The arm went up and down, the tray filled now waiting for a test dump...Thx again for the video, the poor man ribeyes looked good too!!! I've tried those before!!!!

This video did the trick! My icemaker stopped working... and the owners' manual did not give enough information. With a little jumper wire I was able to check the functions of the icemaker. Thank you for this. I had an issue where my ice maker was stopped halfway through a harvest cycle and it was just running water into the ice bucket and flooding the floor. I replaced my ice maker out of hand because it was getting limed up rather than trying to fix the one I had. After replacement the ice maker wouldn't move when the power was turned on. Nothing happened, no water and no cycle.I called Whirlpool and the tech support couldn't help me troubleshoot the problem. I asked if there was a way to force a cycle and she was clueless. She wanted me to call a repair man after spending $150 on a new maker. I said I would figure it out on my own. I started searching youtube and found you. The information allowed me to discover that in addition to a bad ice maker the coil on the valve had also opened. I assume it was because it was energized for over an hour before we discovered the flood.

Thanks!! You saved my sanity. We had a serviceman come and replace the thermostat last week & have had no ice since. I think somehow(?) the gear was frozen stuck but the test cycle seems to have freed it up and I’m hoping that’s all it was. It didn’t spin @1st which confused me bc I’d poured water in the tray & it had produced ice last week, but then it started (maybe the heater coil got it freed up). Either way, this video is A+ 🌟

@@appliancesifix7347 What the hell you doin' givin' out the Chuck Eye secret? lol. The reason why they're cheaper than Rib Eye's is because not as many people know about them, so there's less demand for them. I think they're actually better than Rib Eyes myself. Obviously I was just joking with you, but there is some truth to it. As more and more people find out about them, the price of them will keep going up until they match the price of Rib Eyes. They are very rare, as there are only two Chuck Eyes per animal, so it wouldn't take much publicity to cause them to become almost unobtainable.

Nice video! Thank you! Slight process step I'd like to add. After jumping T and H and seeing that the motor did not move, I was ready to order a new ice maker . . .BUT something told me not too. So I checked the valve and it was working fine. Finally I just looked inside the water tray and saw that the fingers were stuck on some ice that was built up. Using a knife, I freed up the ice, and lo and behold, the motor starting turning. Ice maker working just fine now.

I tested every component and even observed the whole cycle when I made up a test rig and bench tested it outside the freezer (i had to simulate the thermostat function with a jumper). This was after buying a replacement icemaker which also worked for a couple of weeks then just quit. I was completely stymied as to the cause when it would work for a week or two then quit. I'd pull it out, clean out the remaining ice in the tray and place it back where it would work for a few days then quit again. I began to think the problem was the power source (wires, connector) coming from the refrigerator although I did verify that I had 120V coming from the freezer connector. I verified that the connector cable (from icemaker to freezer) and it's wires were good (good continuity, not chafed) as well as verifying that the thermal OL had continuity (i.e., wasn't open at rest). Since it would quit working with half melted ice in the tray I suspected that the "cycle" was being interrupted sometime after the heater turned on and the ice would (normally) dump. But again, it all worked perfectly on the bench. I finally came to the conclusion that maybe the freezer to the icemaker connection wasn't being made up as good as it should be. I decided to use some dialectric grease on this connection. You're supposed to apply this to both connections but I couldn't effectively grease the freezer connector due to its location so I just liberally applied it to the icemaker connector (I used a very small screwdriver to kind of "pack" it into the connector). When I reconnected it I was careful to push it together as firm as I could (it has a "snap" type connector but I still pushed them together very hard after the "snap"). It now works better than ever (even when it was new it seems). Dialectric grease is NON-CONDUCTIVE (as it should be) but it removes/displaces moisture and I'm now convinced my power connection was being compromised by moisture intrusion. Dialectric grease isn't cheap but it is designed to not only prevent moisture intrusion in electrical connections, but also prevent corrosion. It is also designed for extreme temperatures so don't use a substitute grease (e.g., vaseline). Also DO NOT use a CONDUCTIVE grease ever on any electrical connection as this will cause a short circuit or a ground would be a potential fire or personnel hazard. Dialectric grease is completely safe since it is non-conductive and is designed for this purpose. Hopefully this will help someone salvage their icemaker as at least a last effort before throwing it out or wasting money on a new one or a service call that does not address this particular problem.

I have repaired several icemakers which were too slow or intermittent and the most common problem for not harvesting ice was a bad thermostat like a 627958 which is mounted on the front of the icemaker behind the control unit. When the ice tray gets cold enough this thermostat turns on the motor and starts the harvesting process. I was watching your video to verify the purpose of what I believe is an over temperature safety switch on the side and bottom of the ice tray in case the heating element locks ON and over heats. You seem to disagree. ??
@appliancesifix7347
@appliancesifix7347 4 жыл бұрын
Most common problem is bad module which is the main component on the front of the ice maker. That part number you put in the comment doest trace back to a part. There is a thermostat that acts as a safety that prevents the ice maker from producing ice if the fridge is to warm. I have seen this go bad only once or twice in my 13 yrs I've been doing this.

The sensor that you are showing is an overheat sensor that cuts the power if the mold heater sticks in the on position.The harvest sensor in inside behind the module,pressed against the front of the mold. Correct otherwise. Thanks.
