I just bought a bottle of the Balcones Baby Blue, cause I'm all the time hearing you guys talking about Balcones, and my liquor store hasn't had any until now. It's wonderful! It's like skipping through a meadow with butterflies! I get Carmel, vanilla, botanicals and peppermint on the finish. On the nose it has a funk, which worried me because funk belongs on my turntable, not in my whiskey, but in the taste that funk fades to a more approachable Prince and the Revolution funk.

I definitely need to comment on the Balcones Baby Blue. Like may others, upon uncorking, I was met with a peculiar tequila odor on the nose immediately. This at first was a bit off putting for a whiskey, but I gave it a shot regardless. The flavor was different. New to me for sure. Due to my somewhat novice palate, i was hard pressed to taste more than just corn on the palate. The nose was a bit confusing for me too. About a month later, with some oxidation, things are quite different. The nose is so pleasant now. Vanilla, caramel, toffee, slight oak, and loads of soft, buttery corn. Like a perfect bag of caramel corn. The palate is no different for me with this bottle. Everything on the nose is coming through almost directly on the palate. What a great pour, and at a decent price. If you’re looking for an adventure beyond bourbon and scotch, here is your drink! Let this bad boy open up for a few weeks, and you will be pleasantly surprised! Cheers! 🥃

You guys are awesome, and thank you doing this video. I’ve had a bottle of something called Chinola Passion Fruit Liqueur at the house I knew it would be a killer mixer but had no clue what else should be in the cocktail. Mellow Corn was the answer. It’s a lot of sweet but topped up with some seltzer n bitters made an interesting and tasty over ice cocktail.

For like $10 a bottle, Mellow Corn is one of those whiskeys you pour into an empty higher cost bourbon bottle and listen to your friends go on and on about how much better (insert brand here) is than the cheap stuff. Not that I've ever done that with a Weller bottle, but.....

I'm glad you both recognize the majesty of Baby Blue compared to Mellow Corn. Mellow Corn is one of the most impressive whiskies you can buy for under $20/liter, however Baby Blue just has so much to offer. I even suspect that it may be aged in used tequila barrels, since we don't know how it's aged during its 6 months. Mellow Corn is amazing to seasoned drinkers, but most can't seem to get past how hot it is. It is HOT, and you have to be able to look past that, which isn't easy to do for most. If you've ever had a better corn whisky better than Baby Blue, please let me know!

Stopped not because we ran out of reasons but only because we didn't want a Sooner to mistakenly overhear us and have his/her limbic feelings hurt. Yeah, empathy.) But, I'm glad you eventually got to discussing the whiskey. Between the Hobbit's relatively positive review of Mellow Corn and Ralphy.com's positive review... Is it the Mooch who is the pretentious one, suggesting it may only be suitable for cocktails? And here I thought that Ralphy's positive review may have been over influenced by his Scottish thrift.
