I was seriously so stoked hearing my comment in a video, haha! And Rex, I'm a big fan of the video nerdery, please do more. Basically it's the way the lighting is. Chivas Regal 12 is proof that budget blends can be perfectly drinkable, you don’t need to spend big money on a single malt to enjoy a dram. Bottom shelf matters!!

Alright Rex and Daniel, needing a clarification on a debate with s fellow MB... We were admiring a bottle of of the 30 yr anniversary Booker's. The box is made out of reclaimed booker's warehouse wood. I loved the box as pretty fiddly bits. The other MB stipulates the box doesn't count as fiddly bits since it isn't attached to the bottle. I postulate that anything that comes with the bottle counts as fiddly. What say you???

I've never been a drinker but I decided to honor my pops and take up his favorite drink (only for special occasions) Chivas Regal. I have fond memories as a child on Christmas eve, being allowed to have a tiny sip from my dad's glass (a round etched globe). What wonderful times they were. I don't remember if it was a 12 or 18, I was far too young to appreciate it anyway, it was more important that I was just having "dad's drink" really and still is the main motivation. Thank you guys for this great video, I look forward to reliving those memories now that I'm learning a bit more about CR, the experience will be worth more than gold! Any advise regarding 12 vs 18?

I have had a few Japanese whiskies and an Irish whisky agedin Mizunara. But, I have yet to discern the "classic" Mizunara profile. For example, wines from Rioja aged French barrels have more vanilla and those from American oak haves notes of dill as well as vanilla. So, if I were tasting 3 whiskies aged in these 3 different types of barrels, what would be a key indicator that one of them was aged in Mizunara and not French or American oak? Thanks.

Hey! So this doesn’t have anything to do with this video but I wanted to mention something I found out I thought was cool. I was experimenting with my whisky collection and trying different combinations to see how they affected the flavors of each other. I happened to drink some Oban Little Bay first and went from that to Caol Ila 12. When I got to the Caol Ila and nosed it for the first time, I got the strongest BBQ note I have ever smelled off an Islay whisky. It smelled just like a rich BBQ brisket or pulled pork. Even my wife, who does not like whisky very much and has a hard time smelling anything but alcohol could smell it and was impressed. It was amazing! It would be cool if you guys could try this at some point (if you haven’t stumbled upon it already) and see if you get the same result. It was amazing how the smell and taste of Little Bay affected the taste of the Caol Ila. Love this channel and thankful for all you’ve done to help me understand and gain knowledge about whisky! Peter Eggers The boiling point of ethanol is lower than that of water so you could not distill it to remove water, besides the heat in distillation would change some of the esters and other flavor molecules. I think that shots of Chivas 12 is why I dislike Blended Scotch soo much. of late I have been trying to explore blended Scotch and I've only found a couple that I like. Compass Box Peat Monster and CB Spice Tree are Very Tasty. Johnny Walkers (red, black, blue, gold, and Jane Walker), Monkey Shoulders, et al... not so much. SO, for the first time in over 28 years I went and bought a bottle of Chivas Regal 12... and, Meh. it's ok. Milder than I remember. Nothing offensive At All. nowhere near the harsh bite I remember (sipping helps, rather than shooting a shot and hoping for the best( so yeah. a Much Hated blend turned into a mild if only ok sipper.
