** What's with the necklaces?
Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
**A Whisk(e)y school?
Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.
Or would you rather hand out business cards and cross your fingers?

To coat the glass with absinthe for a Sazerac, I keep some in a 2oz spray bottle. Much easier than trying to swirl it around to coat the sides.

So, being a native New Orleanian, I have to note that the Sazerac was invented in New Orleans and still served all over the French Quarter. There are different versions, and the original was cognac and absinthe, but the version most often made now is Rye Whiskey, sugar or simple syrup, Pernod or Herbsaint (Anise liquor), a dash of Peychaud's Bitters, and a twist of lemon peel.

The flavors you found in the craft ryes are found in MGP distilled products (High West and Bulleit are MGP produced). Which is typically where craft distilleries get their products to finish/blend.

Classic Sazerac cocktail: chill your drinking glass with cube ice. Mixing glass with 3 ice cubes, 4 shakes of Peychaud’s bitters, 1 shake Angostura bitters, 2oz of your favorite rye. Stir and set aside. Empty your now cold drinking glass and add enough Absente to coat the sides of the glass. Strain your drink into your drinking glass and squeeze a fresh lemon twist over the drink. It is a classic New Orleans cocktail that won’t disappoint!

so i'm new to whiskey, and have really enjoyed the videos! I started with Makers and thought it was ok then i found the tribe and tried Glenfiddich 12 and became enlightened. What i'm wondering is if i should go ahead and buy a Glencairn or norlan as i continue to dive more into the world of whiskey. Will it really make a big difference for me, being brand new to whiskey, or will it not really make a difference until i get more used to whiskey as a whole? Thanks!!!
@drax14QC

I’d say to you it will make a difference if you really wanna get into nosing whisky but if you drink it in a rocks glass without really paying attention to what it smells or drink it on the rocks, don’t need a Glencairn! My opinion ;-)

I gotta stop gifting so many whiskies to you guys and let other people get on the patron saint list. I feel kinda bad about dumping all those bottles for review. But the Woodford was great and the Knob Creek is even better in my opinion. Trying to help out the Tribe on bottle at a time. Just thinking about how many gift bottles you are going to receive at the launch party is going to be over whelming. Are we thinking about doing a community review of a certain bottle on the reddit/facebook/whiskeytribe website anytime soon? Having that would be a great guide for new and experienced whisky drinkers. So " the people" can crowd source and follow certain tribe reviewers. Finding a someone who has the same tasting profiles as you is tough, but the deeper the pool the easier it might to find those reviewers. Would love to help set something like that up if you are interested. Thanks for reaching out.

I also couldnt find the infamous butter note that is supposed to be so common in irish whisky. when ever you refer to a buttery note or taste do you mean a oily texture or an actual taste of butter. just trying to understand the terminology a bit better. keep it up guys!

One of my first whiskey purchases was the Sazerac Rye and wasn’t a big fan. Since then I’ve had the Double Rye from Highwest and absolutely love it! Are those two just completely different ryes or is my pallet just changing?
@drax14QC
@drax14QC 2 жыл бұрын
I think they are fairly different. Sazerac has reportedly around 51% Rye in the mashbill and High West has a higher Rye %. It’s a blend of 95/5 Rye/Barley + another 80/20 Rye/Barley (not sure about the second cause I think it changed a few years ago..)

Sazerac (cocktail) isn't really mixed with absinthe. Its in an absinthe washed glass. Some bars will have a little spray bottle to coat the inside of the glass, but it's still a minimal level of absinthe. Anything more than that and you'd only get the black liquorice taste
