How To Play the KMS Bismarck in World of Warships

KMS Bismarck is here! Talk about one heck of a ship! Enjoy the most powerful secondaries of any T8 battleship and watch as they do significant damage to the enemies you face! She has great maneuverability and in my opinion is the pinnacle of the German Battleship Line due to her speed, maneuverability, armor and firepower. She may not be the best in any of those areas but she is extremely well balanced for her role as a punisher of all things close to you! One thing is certain, the 10.6km no fun zone for DD's and cruisers due to your added cruiser strapped to your side makes this one of the most fun ships to play!

The problem I have playing German BBs it that I push up hoping to brawl so does the team but then once my teammates get shot at they run away leaving me alone against the enemy fleet I either try to retreat and die or fight to the end bringing at least one ship down with me

That will definitely not end well if you are lit for most of that! :) It's fun to watch the fireworks but man are some DD players crazy. Best way to handle a Bismarck in a DD is from either long range annoying fire out of the range of secondaries or ambush style tactics where the secondaries don't get to do much damage to you.

I have just acquired the Manual Fire Control... and am now running 15 pt captain. It is very powerful in this max secondary kit *and* it has the hydro and can carry fighters or spotters. Gotta love running with the Sierra Mike flag... the steering gear mod gets that rudder moving faster. ( please turn your mic input down or move the mic a bit away from your mouth.. you are overloading the input... it becomes hard to listen to... thanks)

He rightfully knew that the UK relied heavily upon goods being shipped from overseas and that if the US got involved on their side, their most likely landing points are all going to be in the UK so shutting them down with mixed heavy and light units would definitely help in victory. The problem is that a U-Boat is far more effective at commerce raiding than a battleship ever would be!

I know this is quite a old video and i dont know if they updated the ships but my Tirpitz Secondary guns shoots at 11.3km with no flags. Bismarck is still the same. Just just under 11km. But i prefer to play the Bismarck or the Tirpitz in a tier 10 match. I dont like my T10 much. But these is awesome ships. Love them !!!

Bismarck was damaged and leaking fuel after her engagement with the Hood and the Prince of Wales which I believe there is said to be a argument between a Admiral and the ships captain on if they should continue on with their mission which was to break out into the Atlantic and raid shipping lanes or turn around and return to port. I know for a fact at least with the US Navy that the captain has the final say on a ship even with a superior officer if something should be carried out or not under the reason of it being a danger to ship and crew. I do not know if the same was true with the German Kreigsmarine.

BTW - great stuff here. I'm ~100 battles deep with the Biz and I learned a thing or two. It is my favorite ship by far, but I'm still relatively new to WOWS, ~730 battles, of which 350 were before I got my head out of my a$$.

A lot would happen and change and little of it is actually good for the game. I played Navyfield 2 prior to World of Warships back in the Closed Beta days and NF2 had subs. They were the single most annoying ship type in the game and would absolutely destroy ANY ship they hit with their torpedoes with little warning. The only way they were fair was when a good destroyer or light cruiser captain used their sonar ability every time it came up off of cooldown and even then, that didn't always prevent the loss of a ship. Good sub captains could hit maneuvering destroyers easy enough to take them out before they could depth charge them. Overall, subs, while fun, have no valid place in this game. Furthermore, most submarines were used for engaging merchant ships. Very few were ever deployed in fleet actions like this game has and most of those were US Fleet Boats in the Pacific (hence the name FLEET boats! :)). If WG can find a way to add them to the game without breaking the current game play, I'd be shocked. They can barely get their current game play right! :)

Whiskey's Gaming Lounge Thanks for your opinion you've a point there and beside subs i think can only do like 5 knots under water they'll be left behind but they can be more annoying than the DD's though if an enemy ship crosses it's path. And I'm also hoping WG would include people manning the decks especially the AA guns that is placed on top of a main battery guns. I don't feel like closing up my cam anymore coz it makes the ships look dull like nobody is on there. There was a game i saw but i think its an offline game its called age of the shogunate if im not mistaken. controls with ships is the same as WOW the only difference is the ships are all sails few are already with steam engines and there are people on decks its fun to watch a ship that gets hit by salvos people are thrown everywhere 😀 especially if the ships is sinking they all jump overboard.

I too wish WarGaming would add in crews to the ships and the reason that they gave as to why they aren't in game was pretty lame. Basically WG said that the rating of the game would have to go up in some European countries if crew is added to the decks of the ship. Interesting that games like SilentHunter had crews on decks of ships that you could shoot (as well as lifeboats you could sink) and are in the same rating as WoWs. Subs are far too hard to balance to be included. If people think CV's are bad, subs will be worse! :)

I use to have an another account it was created in Asia that account i have the BB Iowa and the ranger CV and when i move to US that account doesn't work here 🙁so I created a new one with german navy and oh i love it. Hopefully U bouts will soon come up.

Looking forward to the Bismarck! Working on getting a captain to that 15 point mark for some brutal secondaries at the moment so I haven't unlocked her yet...takes forever though, so I understand if few actually play with captains at that kind of level. But the dragon flags have helped a lot and I got myself the Scharnhorst too now. Wanted to buy her later but I couldn't wait...wanted to play her now! xD And I am not disappointed...in fact, I absolutely love the Scharnhorst! :D Haven't touched the Gneisenau since I got her so that's probably also a reason why I don't have the Bismarck yet xD. But eventually I'll either play the Gneisenau again or convert XP from the Scharnhorst and unlock her. Unsure at the moment what I'll do and when I'll do it though. May play the Scharnhorst until the captain is level 15 and then get the Bismarck, depends on how long that takes me. Would be nice to be a powerhouse from the start :)

She's totally worth having the Manual Secondaries skill but even without it she's pretty powerful when played to her strengths, if not a little less focused. My biggest gripe with manual Secondaries is that you HAVE TO target something for them to work. It'd be nice if they defaulted to "target anything" until you focus on something then that side gets the bonus from Manual Secondaries. Ohh well, tradeoff for being extremely powerful up close! :)

The Manual Fire Control for Secondaries (the 5 point captain skill) requires you to target something with the secondaries (press control and click on them) in order for them to fire. They will no longer autofire at whatever is in range, they HAVE to be targeted to work. That any clearer? :)

Can't believe I didn't understand that...I was thinking it was a some kind of setting or something that made the secondaris not fire unless you told them to or something. Derp moment I guess. Didn't realize that was the name of the commander talent either. Would, as you mentioned in your first answer be better if they can all fire at will, but only one side can get the added bonus from the captain skill at a time since you do get in to situations that makes both sides technically able to fire quite often...but I guess it's supposed to be a tradeoff...but it's still strange to me, all other talents only add benefits...why whould this one add a negative effect too....Maybe an oversight? :P

No, I don't think it's an oversight. WG did it with specific intentions to balance out the huge increase in accuracy. I still wish they would auto fire until you select a target then proceed to fire from one side, but we get what we get! :)

This is probably one of the First German BB's in which you can probably fight from a pretty decent distance Thats just my opinion tho. Its probably changed alot from when this vid was made, but the playstyle is pretty much near identical: Brawler and very good armor.

Okay I don't know what's happened since the making of this video but today I've just sold my Bismarck in disgust. This is after not going a single match where I haven't taken a 10k or more damage in a single volley... and in most of those matches sustaining three or more of such volleys. I was looking forward to the Bismark until I was repeatedly skunk in 6-7 volleys and most of the time not managing more than 8k damage dealt. Guess the big issue is my commander doesn't have manual secondary control yet and teamwork is more or less a foreign concept to most of the people I end up grouped with. Guess I'll put the commander back on my Gneisenau and work on more levels.

On Bismarck they are always HE. Some ships have guns larger than 152mm (6") and those ships will only fire AP out of those guns.

Well, you use the consumable and any torpedoes or ships that come into it's detection range will automatically be rendered and visible to you. Pretty simple really! :) It might not be available on the stock hull, I don't remember!

KMS= Kriegsmarine Schiff, the official naval designation of German warships operating during the era of the Kriegsmarine. Not made up, just how it is legally designated. Similarly SMS, or Seiner Majestät Schiff, was the legal naval abbreviation for German warships operating in the German Empire. Just like USS for United States Ship, or HMS for Her Majesty's Ship, or IJN for Imperial Japanese Navy, or VMF for Voenno-Morskoi Flot for Russian/Soviet Navy, MN for Marine Nationale for the French Navy, and so on.

(However, Germans did use SMS during imperial times, but nothing during nazi times). I like your content, but what you are doing with the names of warships is a complete misunderstanding of the topic and you mislead your viewers. There has never been a prefix like IJN or VMF. Nazi German, Soviet and Japanese warships had just their names without any prefixes. Please research, verify, check and correct me if I am wrong.

By saying german nazi navy I meant Kriegsmarine. They did not use any prefixes to the names of their warships. For example, they always say: "HMS Hood was sunk by Bismarck". There is never any prefix to Bismarck. Just "Bismarck". During the Imperial times, the Kaiserliche Marine used the SMS prefix. Therefore, we have SMS Dresden, or SMS Emden.

how to Citadel the bismarck

It is extremely difficult to do so. In fact, I've NEVER citadelled another BIsmarck before. I have citadelled a TIrpitz twice now. The only way I've found to do it is from long range (18k +) with USN BB's. In RARE cases you can catch a German BB turning towards you at close range and showing the "up skirt" shot. When you see the red underwater painted part of the ship, shoot there. SOMETIMES you can get a citadel that way but it is rare! Otherwise long range fire from an NC, Iowa or Montana will do it.

You can actually citadel a Bismarck/Tirpitz if you watch for them to turn towards you since she will lift her waterline away from the water due to the list in the turn lifting the Turtleback armour out of the way. Aim for the red and blast away. However I have had ramdom citadels with Yamato and Iowa without the Tirpitz or Bismarck turning

she was sinking when 'scuttled' her bow was almost underwater and she had also lost her stern to dorsetshires torpedoes. and her final engagement and gunnery against the prince of wales were not exactly credible performances. she hit PoW 4 times but caused no significant damage, whereas PoW hit her 5 times with far fewer shots and caused heavy damage knocking out boilers and damaging her fuel supply. in her final engagement it took less than 20 minutes to knock out most of her main battery and then a total engagement time of 45 minutes to reduce her to a burning foundering wreck

History can teach you important lessons about how a ship operated and the strengths and weaknesses of said ship... when you know the historical weaknesses, often times they tend to show up in game too even though the game isn't based upon realism... or you can skip past it or not watch the video. The choice is yours.
