As more of a "craft whisky" connoisseur I'll likely never buy a bottle of Macallan -- at least not for myself -- but you've got to appreciate the amount of confidence Macallan has in its own brand. This level of reinvestment in the future of your own product is rarely seen in any industry in any part of the world.

I have to say as far as the production and information you brought to us whisky affectionados here on You Tube I think this is your best ever video presentation Ben. I would have never know how amazing and impressive the MaCallan Distillery is. I'm no expert on the subject but to me it's the most beautiful,technically advanced distillery I have ever seen . Very Impressive. I'm sure your video production here makes your father very proud. Merry Christmas to the both of you and your families.....Slainte!

2 years ago my brother and i drank a 5th of Canadian club from 73...aged 6 years before bottled. It tasted like the 70s....enjoyed it... flavor was flannel, wood paneling, overwhelming graphite, and just enough rust and Chanel to balance it

The 15 and 18 are my “affordable” favorites. Nothing will ever top the 30 year ive only had once in my life.
@betteryoubetter Жыл бұрын
I am and have been a customer of the 12 and 15 years...affordable.....frankly I enjoy the flavour of the 12 more than the 15...not that the 15 is not superb, but I get more of a honey hit off the 12.....at any rate, IMO, the best scotch in the world; love it!

I just bought a bottle (750ML) of Macallan double cask 12 tonight, omg by far my go to whiskey from now on so delicious 🤤😋😋 what a treat! My second is Belvenie 12 double wood
@matdyke5046 Жыл бұрын
The flavor depth i have from the 18 is a less sugary blackberry, raspberry cobbler with honey and and the warmth that it was cooked inna dutch oven over clean coals. A touch of browned pastry toastyness and dark berries rendered out accenteded with vanilla and its all cooked in a leather shroud.

Great video Ben, just a bit of a souless distillery in my opinion.
@marcusroy81855 жыл бұрын
Yeah I visited a few distilleries recently and found this one to be the most soulless. It was cool to see the old bottles on display but overall it just felt like a factory with the whole process being automated.

Nice video, loved the tour of the distillery - one I need to visit soon! I think my experiences of Macallan at bars has put me off them a little. Dumped in a tumbler/rocks glass and all the light/fresh subtleties escaping. I recently had some with my brother-in-law in a tulip shaped glass and the depth of flavour rekindled my interest.

Hey, Ben, check the audio next time. It is only on the right channel during the interview segment. Not a huge problem if using speakers but annoying AF on headphones. At least just convert to mono in editing if sound is cocked up.
@andrewlee10212 жыл бұрын
At 7: 57 you said there are 330,000 casks on site and 80% are sherry butts and then later on at 8:20 you say there are 600,000 bourbon barrels. And on your website you write "the Macallan premises contain approximately 170,000 Whisky casks. More than half of them are Spanish Sherry casks from European oak." May I know the exact number? Which one is true and how do you know this is factual?
@redshift00006 жыл бұрын
for some reason there is only audio in the right channel.

Its unfortunate how I had a very bad experience at Macallan, in the summer of 2017. I was told to bugger off as soon as I got out of the visitors parking lot. Before I could get to the visitors center I was told that "this is a working distillery and I needed to get a tour guide to walk around". I then walked into my car and went to Glenfarclas and was free to explore and considering it was probably one of my only chances to go to Scotland I will never forget this experience.

@gegernaut If it was Macallan probably it wouldn't happen, however MacCallan is a bit like that though

Macallan being from Speyside region, why in the bottle it's written Highland?
@Whiskycom2 жыл бұрын
The Speyside is technically part of the Scottish Highlands. Every Speysider is a Highlander but a Highlander isn't necessarily a Speysider. It's a bit confusing 😅

This "regional" maltings Ben refers to (Simpson's) is actually from Northern England but not regional to Speyside or Macallan.

The factory is in Berwick. But the farms are in the Scottish Borders and Northumberland.
@Brad-ic4bp2 жыл бұрын
I know it's not "cool" to like Macallan, among scotch snobs, but as a bourbon snob, I think it's a great gateway scotch (double-cask) for those bourbon fans looking to branch out into scotch.
