I don’t know if this is a smart move or something to regret once it comes out. It’s a good thing they decided not to retell the story but rather continue the story. However, the beauty of the movie Whisper of the heart is that you can imagine for yourself how the story ends.

For anyone who wants to know before complaining that it doesn't look like the Ghibli movie or that they changed the Ghibli movie: THE STORY OF THE MOVIE IS NOT GHIBLI'S AND NEVER WAS. Whispers of the Heart is based on a manga titled "Mimi wo sumaseba" (If you listen closely) written by Aoi Hiiragi, Ghibli changed many things because Miyazaki, who was in charge of the script, put his ideas into it, changing the story and even the author herself. She was participating in the adaptation but they removed her because her ideas did not go with Miyazaki. The original manga has a second part published in 1990 titled Mimi wo sumaseba: Shiawasena Jikan, which is the one on which this film is based, which is why there is a lot of difference from one to the other, this film DOES directly follow the manga, not like the Ghibli film. In the manga, Seiji wants to be a world-famous cellist, so he goes to study music in Italy and even fights with his grandfather at the beginning because he did not want to let him fulfill his dream since he wanted him to inherit the store (This is later solved) in the Ghibli movie they changed it to him wanting to be a Violin craftsman because Miyazaki thought it was right to skip the fight and follow the line of "His grandfather wants this he wants that too then" because it was supposedly "A correct message for the young audience" since for Miyazaki it was ungrateful of Seiji to fight with his grandfather over a dream "Illogical for someone his age" In the manga sequel you are told that many publishers first ask for experience as an editor before publishing an author since this guarantees that they will be understanding of the work of their assigned editors (Something like how in the manga industry authors first they are assistants to a mangaka and then they are mangakas) this happens to the protagonist however there is a detail and that is that she was not only a good writer but also an editor which makes them not want to lose her in her position. The idea of the sequel to the manga is to give a realistic message "The search for dreams is difficult and it is not as simple as children think, the best thing is to persevere in finding them even if it is difficult" (And this is a note from the author in the sequel) Seriously, before criticizing this movie read the original material, it is very good, don't stick with just Ghibli, it has already been shown that Ghibli changes many things, just look at the original Howl's Moving Castle books and the movie, Howl doesn't It's nothing like the movie.

Thank you for explanation, as I was also confused about it.

Thanks for your excellent explanation. It's such a disappointment when you find out how much Miyazaki changed source material; it makes it difficult to appreciate the original, 'Howl's Moving Castle' and 'Arrietty' ("The Borrowers") are perfect examples of this.
@mpGreen03
@mpGreen03 Жыл бұрын
@@jacqulyynw For me - it's not hard to appreciate Howl and Arrietty as they are adaptations and clearly are different from source materials, it stands on it's own feet and both movies are good. I think we can appreciate both as it was never meant to be direct adaptations and Ghibli never called them "better versions" or something like that. Though when it comes to Whisper - it also gave me an ick with Miyazaki changing ML's "problem" and calling him ungrateful...

I like Mijoyaki's version. The characters are kind, the story is sad but beautiful. respect for elders, and first love that does not break your heart. on the contrary, it inspires.
@ValentinaB2001
@ValentinaB2001 Жыл бұрын
@@НурсаулеСагидолда-п3ж Nobody said otherwise, but the original manga also has that, however it also has a clear message in the case of Seiji and that is: You cannot force your children, grandchildren or anyone to pursue a dream that is not theirs but yours. The problem here is not if you like Miyazaki's or not, Miyazaki makes good stories, the problem is that he changes the original stories and waiting for the original stories to follow Miyazaki is rude to those authors who killed themselves creating their world and stories to people think that only Miyazaki version exists and only that version is worth it.

This is a real live action film. ITs inspired by Whisper of the Heart the manga (the same one the ghibli film is an adaption of). I watched it this year. It was a good movie. I was really moved and touched by some parts of the story. I think it did a good job at presenting that even if you have a dream you try to follow its not easy, and that once your a certain age you have to face a lot of realities. Overall it was a great movie, I reccomend it to any whisper of the heart fan.

This brought to mind a monologue I wrote after watching the original animated film. It's from the perspective of the baron (I had to dig around for it). After watching this, I decided to revise it to be more encompassing. "Time waits for no one. Glaciers melt. Rivers dry up. Mountains erode and crumble. And we, too, face our forms of turmoil. Loved ones coming and going. Dreams challenged and realities faced. Countless voices telling us who to be and what to do. And in the end we, too, move onward. When that time comes, what voice will we hear? Anger, bitterness, regret, the silent screaming of dreams forgotten. Don't let them be who you are. When everything seems hopeless and you're being pulled in many directions, make time. To stop. To wonder. To heed the quiet. If you prick your ears and listen well, you will hear it. Not the tangled chaos of the mind but the whisper of the heart."

Let's put things in perspective here folks. This is not a Ghibli film. It's made by Sony Pictures. Although the story follows on from the events in the anime, it's intended to be a continuation of the original 1989 manga. It even has the blessing of mangaka Aoi Hiragi. Ghibli has no input whatsoever.

Live action dose nothing but kill the magic of 2D hand-drawn animation, first Disney killed that magic, and now I fear Japan is beginning to do the same. Hayao Miyazaki kept the 2D magic alive with his upcoming movie the Boy and the Heron, but it's going to be his last one. Let's hope Studio Ponoc, the studio that made Mary and the Witch's Flower will do a good job of keeping the magic of 2D and anime alive.

When something is done to perfection, I fail to see the point in remaking it. Regardless of how good it is it will always be compared [fairly or not] UNFAVOURABLY to the original. The making of live action remakes of classic animated features has not worked out well for at least ONE other studio [who shall remain nameless here] I can't see taking the risk. At least being a Japanese production we'll be spared many of the cultural aspects that worked against that "Other Studio".

In my head she was independent and she can do alot on her own, but the movie showed us something else, and for seiji’s character which’s my fave’s male character of ghibli, they haven’t give it what it deserves especially for the younger version, I liked the adult ver better and I felt like it’s more seiji than the younger one, they did absolutely great job with the grandpa and the shop tho 🥺💕 but overall I didn’t like it, they could’ve made way better since whisper of the heart was a masterpiece and was carefully made I really hoped someone would be way more careful with the details and everything else, it was a great chance for them to shine but for me they didn’t take it 😔

Most of Hayao Miyazaki's films are just based off of another people's work and that includes the Whisper of the Heart. In this case, the live action is the official sequel of the original manga.

one of the things that makes Miyasaki films special is Miyasakis artistic style, translate that into live action and you loose an great deal of what makes the movie great. Even the less praised ones are still considered masterpieces, because of the art. If you are going to translate it to live action, then you need to trascend the generals of live action filmmaking to achieve a style no one else has ever managed to achieve.

The thing is the original story is not a work of Miyazaki! the animated movie is based on a manga by Aoi Hiiragi so nothing of that really maters as studio Ghibli just did an adaptation of her work, they did not create the story themselves. It would be like saying that no one else is allowed to try and adapt Howl's moving castle just because Ghibli already did an adaptation that became a classic, when the original story written by Diana Wynne Jones is actually quite different and even has sequels. So ,they are not translating a ghibli movie into live action but rather continuing the story of the manga and still respecting the already existing animated adaptation done by Ghibli because of how much of a staple it is. Now about how good or bad the movie is going to be or if it would be on the same level as the animated one is a different topic lol

I really don't know what to feel since a live action remake of my favorite film sounds awful, but interested since this isn't the same film but rather a somewhat sequel to it, Really torn on this.

The fact that instead of making a live action adaptation that probably would never capture how enduring and beloved the og was........this is kinda the best idea possible for make a live action........instead of remaking the same story.....make a continuation of the original story.........this is kinda genius.

Umm.. please read the manga that studio ghibli butchered to make his version, this is a sequel to the manga.. not the movie, the same crap they did to howl's moving castle, I'm sure most people doesn't know ghibli DIT NOT made it, they just took it and made a version of it ( with such wilds changes)

Im sorry but we all watch the wrong movie? I enjoyed whisper of the heart but it lacked the luster studio ghibli has with its more popular movies. Its a little more entertaining than when the wind rises or only yesterday, but i still put it with the side movies of ghibli. Personally i feel like it will do much better as a live action with its tone

Im not exactly happy if Whispers of the heart is getting a real life movie but mainly for Baron ( and the effect it made him a bit creepy in real life and he supposed to be charismatic and handsome in the anime.. and it makes me think if they made this film real life the possibility of making the ‘cat return’ into a real movie is one I don’t want to imagine.. )
@piereandreturner2818
@piereandreturner2818 Жыл бұрын
Baron is a living statue of an anthropomorphic cat. This movie was based on the original manga, not the Ghibli version. That was how he was supposed to look. Ghibli just makes him look kind of dreamy and handsome. In the manga, she buys a creepy cat statue and says that she feels something stir her emotions every time she looks at him. The same could be said about Howl. In the book, Calcifer described him as "vain for a plain man with mud-colored hair." Howl is also described as "not naturally handsome, but has charm, both literally and figuratively." He is modeled on the Byronic hero and was a plain man; his charm lies somewhere else, not his appearance or the way he smiles. Ghibli changed a lot of things to fit with Hayao Miyazaki's 'dreamy' aesthetic.
