Why is no one talking about the massive existential crisis themes in this film. Not knowing what you’ll do with your life in the future, forcing yourself to pursue something even though you’re scared you might have made the wrong decision. Regretting to not be the kid you used to be, that had everything figured out. This movie really captures a lot of young people’s anxieties, including mine. It’s so real.

Whisper of the Heart is one of those movies that has fondness slowly and quietly growing in you. The director, Yoshifumi Kondo, was brilliant in story telling. The part about finding the gem in yourself, and not to give up when you still have tons of work on polishing is soft spoken. Whenever I felt like giving up, that gentle voice and imagery would encourage me to go on.

+The One Man Army Hmm, it's so hard to give ratings on films. Each one is an artwork in itself. Some stories are more powerful or complex than others, but for me the part of a movie I like to rate is how I feel after watching it. If it stays with me afterwards... that's the best kind. I haven't seen that many yet. Spirited away was for sure one of my favs! This is why anime is a separate genre. The feel it has (kinda freaked me out sometimes) :) but in a good way. Or 5 cm per second, someone commented 5 wallpapers per second, lol so true! Grave of Fireflies was so moving... even though I've seen it few years back. Just saw The Cat Returns, it's the finished book of the main character from Whisper of the Heart I think! :) Such a cool concept, a story within story 😺

This is a really great film. Just rewatched it and as someone who is inclined to arts but still very much struggling to know my place in the world, having been rejected out of art school and going to a linguistics one instead and now being really unsure of what to do with my life, Shizuku’s struggles resonated a lot with me. What with how everyone already had a plan of their own about their life and meanwhile you just feel like you’re being left behind. I really related to her wanting to prove herself as a writer and putting her entire focus on writing and never anything else as if her life depended on finishing it as soon as possible, because that’s what it feels like to me as well. This film does a tremendous job portraying how real these characters feel, it might have a simple premise and no big action to it but it really doesn’t have to be. Sometimes films like these that take their time letting you know these characters and their emotions touch you just as much if not even more, seeing how realized they become at the end. It makes me want to work really hard on and polish my passions just like them to perhaps one day see even a glimpse of myself realized as well It just has so much charm and fondness to it. The part about taking your time to find your own crystal inside of you and polishing it, that anyone can do it at anytime... it’s been done a lot but here it kinda hits different you know? Maybe because I just relate to Shizuku a lot. It just really encourages me into believing there’s no rush, that with time I will know who I really want to be. When I feel myself giving up, I remember that message and that’s what I want to believe. Also Shizuku and Seiji are great together. I love their dynamic. I love how the film ended right on Seiji confessing he loves her and you just get to see what happens later on with them riding on the bike happily together and Shizuku’s friend and her crush finally getting together and other people just walking by just moving on with their lives it’s just. So wholesome and it made me so emotional I’m just- god it made me so happy for them. And man I’m gonna have the japanese version of country roads stuck in my head for days now thanks to this haha

This was one of my late mom's favorite movies. That and she loved Princess Mononoke. I personally love Whisper of the Heart also. But in order it's Porko Rosso, then Whisper of the Heart, Howls Moving Castle, Kiki's Delivery Service, and Totoro. Those are my top five in order.

This is one of the best film I've watched. I particularly like the simplicity of the movie, it's a movie about life. I also apprrciate the Japanese culture, lifestyle in this movie. It's very relaxing for me. Can someone recommend movies similar to this one? Thanks
I feel so happy and amazing watching this movie. Not because of the storyline, but more because of the atmosphere. it's just beautiful

I love this movie. I hope to write some stuff someday as well, so there’s that, but this movie is so much more. I care for all of the characters, and it’s all so well done. One of my favorite scenes is when Seiji’s grandfather is by the fire sleeping and he dreams of Louise. Then he wakes up to realize that it never was. That scene always makes me want to cry because it’s so real. We have our dreams, but reality never really is what we have in mind. Amazing movie!

First time i watch this i only perceived it as romantic but when i watched it as an adult i realized how relatable it was specially on the knowing your purpose or what to do with your life dialogues.

This trailer doesn’t do this film justice, this is probably one of Studio Ghibli’s most underrated films

I’m Japanese .I watched this movie for the first time when I was 15 years old ,the last year of my junior high school life. I really enjoyed it and felt sympathy for the hero Shizuku because she was also 15 years old.I like the way she never gives up her dream. The band of her friend and family is also moving !

I just watched this. I enjoyed it but now I'm sad. I feel like if I watch it again, the experience won't be as magical as the first time. I've felt this with most of Studio Ghibli's movies. I'm scared but I don't know why.

I like to think that when shizuru grew up. She took her first story and changed a bunch of things about it. Keeping some key characters like the cat in a suit with a hat called baron humbert von gikkingen. Or a chubby cat who shows a middle school girl the way to an ancient shop that's going to change her life. She published her book. And that book got a film adaptation called "cats return ".

Or maybe Shizuku already wrote a whole series of books about the Baron, and The Cat Returns is just one of them. Even the title sounds like a sequel and not the first book with the Baron.
