Good shots considering. It isn't fun when you know there is a large size and strength advantage from a lower belt, but he probably could have been less scared of the ground. Maybe he should have offered you the leg and just got it over with. Maybe he will learn ankle picks in future, they would work on someone bigger.

Good takedowns, nothing to be ashamed of. 2 big dudes facing off it will not be spectacular flying armbars, solid work mate, especially since it was your first no gi competition, I would be proud if I would hit those single legs in comp.

Definitely a flaw in the sport, it matches up with striking well though 😊

2 mins in, I'm thinking... rather pull guard at this point

Dude he should have - I would’ve lost almost for sure

He surely must have nearly zero takedown skill, and if he faces a bigger guy like you, even a white belt with some basic knowledge can easily shut down a shitty takedown attempt. You seem bigger than him, so that scared him off. But your win was legit, his fault if he can't use his skills, that he should have at this belt level.

How do you know the other guy was a brown belt? It seems like a brown belt would have a lot more entries for takedowns, or they would let you initiate something so they can work their ground game.

Brown belt from the same gym but yes he would def have beat me with his ground game

@@mark-wales so, teammates? I perceived an awkwardness about this match that would be explained by that.

I wonder how the Brown Belt at your gym feels about you posting this, the title of the video and all the comments it has gotten ? I cannot imagine he would be too happy about it. I noticed you changed the title of the video did your gym or coach say something to you ?

If the mats were any smaller you could eliminate all takedown points entirely.

Staring contest. It can be excused for the white belt, but who the F gave him his brown belt?! He didn’t make any attempt to take you down, his stand up was atrocious. This isn’t martial arts, in a real fight you wouldn’t have time to go on walkies.

Look like the white belt is good at wrestling so yes white belt at bjj but not inexperienced. Brown belt has to learn forcing half guard and working sweeps

Mate thanks so much - it does look like a real skill, I’m gonna work on it this year. Such a great way to open the round and assert yourself if you can get a sweep right

Based on the research I have done the Brown belt should have had enough technique not to be beaten by White belt. What do you guys think the blk belt at his academy would say??
@Timst3R6 күн бұрын
@@pcotto6878 he wouldn't be happy about it, although he would need to take responsibility too. There are certain factors that can come into consideration in competitions from my experience. Some things I have seen: White belt might have prior experience in a grappling martial art. Brown belt might be older and white belt might be younger, in which the white belt used strength to dominate. Brown belt may have had tougher rounds than the white belt prior to the match and the white belt was fresh. Brown belt could be unwell/injured and avoiding certain things. The list goes on. I don't know the background on what happened on the day or the lead up for brown belt so I cannot comment. The coach should take some responsibility. His student lost because he couldn't do proper take downs or wasn't very engaged, so it should be a learning experience for both parties - work on your takedown and spend more time coaching take downs. Poor take downs are also what comes with BJJ. Most academies don't do enough of it and focus more on the ground game. Fights don't start on the ground, they start on your feet.
