White Cart Water - First trout of 2023

After a disappointing start to the season, I have a short session on my local river where I try to put my first river trout of 2023 in the net.
I target a couple of rising trout in a difficult pool.

Good perseverance to hook up with that trout Robert. Today’s video brought back a lot of good memories for me. I was a member of the Busby Angling Association in my teenage years, back in the 70’s, and spent many happy days on the White Cart. Caught the train from Hairmyres to Busby and headed up or down river from there. It looks a lot more overgrown now than it did then but a great wee river.

Nice brownie ,i usualy fish down polllock estate caught some nice ones with iron blue dun ,can ewe get day tickets for that stretch .Tight lines for 24 🐟

Thanks, yeah the Pollok house stretch isn’t a bit I’ve actually fished before. Yeah you can get day tickets. The bit I was fishing in this video was just behind Williamwood High school so if you get a ticket for Busby AA you’ll be grand 😊🎣

Love this. I've been down south for 20+ years but as a kid I was a member of the Walton club that starts upstream of the busby section - fond memories. My Dad is still in Eaglesham so I may give the busby stretch a go if the do a day ticket

I’ll sometimes try tying a 3-4 foot piece of lighter tippet on to the existing tippet/leader if I’m wanting to try the dry when I don’t have any tapered leaders. For smaller flies it usually helps with turn over, nowhere near as good as a tapered leader though.

I’d normally do that too Lee, on this occasion I only had one spool Of tippet with me. Can’t believe I forgot so much stuff for this session 😂
