Glad to see you are back at it. Looks like a great issue heading into #500. For someone who started their collection around #106 or #107 I'm hoping they will be doing a big retrospective or a look at how it's changed over the years, too.

Awesome preview. I love the desk setup. Servo skull so grim. Gaming etiquette is an interesting topic from the spillover from other systems it can lead to quite toxic or problematic situations.

Again, nice White Dwarf Coverage Miranda! Little disappointed no Kill Team content, but I haven't bought a White Dwarf in years. I'm dipping my toes back into Narrative Gaming which I prefer over perfectly balanced points-match gaming, I'm not a power gamer and don't really enjoy playing against other power gamers. I'm getting into Warlord Games' Judge Dredd and Slaine 2000AD Games and they are easily broken by power gamers, but I am playing to tell a story and capture iconic comic book moments, and I'll save the competitive play for Kill Team. Stay well, Miranda! and may your Astra Militarum uphold the Imperial Ideals!

Sportsmanship is huge for me. Im a Battletech fan and wow, one of my early games I was playing this guy and he had some HOT dice. Literally getting headshots with 1 hit kill weapons at least three times in the game. He was actually jumping out of his chair and jumping around celebrating. No, we never played again. I think Uncle Atom over at Tabletop Minions has an amazing video about "why video games suck" and he talks a bit about the social contract. Even in games of Battletech I play currently, I try to act calm about severe damage I deal to opposing player's mechs. If I hit an ammo bin or headshot, I dont celebrate, cheer, or anything like that. I might smile at most but I just move on with the shooting.

I also think they'll take a long look back at their previous issues since the beginning, but also hoping for some free stuff, like a mini or transfer sheet. We shall see.

@@WarGamerGirl I may know where I put that Tome Keeper transfer sheet, I think it's with my Gundam transfers to keep it safe/separate.

I tend to agree with you generally speaking about Sigmar. I think the Sigmar as a "flawed god" thing stems from British sensibilities toward their own royalty; sometimes they love the royal family and other times they complain about them (this has been my experience, your mileage may vary). I know it will come off as generalizing, but it just seems to me to be an extension of the British sense of humor. The British seem to have a knack for self-mockery, and the ability to laugh at oneself is a hallmark of British wit. Sarcasm and irony are intertwined. Whether it's poking fun at the weather or reveling in innuendo, English humor is all about embracing the quirks and oddities of life as well as the darker gallows humor, so it tends to bleed over and feed into dark fantasy and sci-fi (at least in Warhammer). It would be interesting to actually have pantheon that was actually seen as good without always having "the end justifies the means" approach all the time. P.S. you should give Warcry a go, it is one of my favorite game systems that GW put out.

Completely agree with you and getting bored of the same old stories. Rinse and repeat.
nearly at 500 but there have been more than 500 White Dwarf magazines right ? as I think they reset the issue numbers once upon a time. Althought I could be wrong as doing the math say 500 White Dwarves divided by 12 months (as on average 1 White Dwarf per month_ = 41 years which is 'around' the length of time that White Dwarf has been in publication since the 1980s.

most magazines average 13 a yr (52 weeks divided by 4)

with no hope injected... grim dark becomes boring.
@AlfonsoTheTraitor4 ай бұрын
The grim dark is boring because the world we live on is becoming the 40k universe. It was fun when it was fantasy but now. . 🥴not so much.
@WarGamerGirl4 ай бұрын
I don't mind the grimdark aspect, it just gets monotonous when *every* story you read is some cynical take. I mean, without some actual heroes to look to it makes it hard to care about the future. That's my take anyway. In fairness, the Gaunt's ghosts books have been really solid so far.
