In 1977 Lord and Taylor was the first store to open in the Mall, now ironically its the last store standing.

Update! Lord and Taylor are now closed and the building torn down. I was there on it's last day of operation.

RIP White Flint Mall! I have MANY fond memories of shopping there with my parents when I was growing up, and it was always a VERY special occasion when we did so! The décor and design of the place ensured that-marble everywhere, beautiful construction that made the place airy and classy-you knew this was no ordinary mall from the second you walked in! We'd always make a day of it and wander through the whole place-they had a terrific food court, and there was a candy shop next door where we could enjoy such delights as chocolate-covered cherries and those candy fruit slices ( we always left with some of those, they were and still are one of my favorite candy treats). I also remember this quirky jewelry store which displayed its wares on a bed of tempered glass "pebbles" that added a sparkle unlike any other, and Bloomingdales and I. Magnin were our favorite stores to poke around in. Who else can remember the elevator in the middle of the Raleigh's men's store? I know I do! But my absolute favorite elevators were the big Otis glass elevators that had the fountains around them at the first-floor level. If my sister and I had behaved, we got a special treat-riding up and down those for a trip BY OURSELVES. To me, that was as close as you could get to Willy Wonka's Great Glass Elevator, and there was something magical about it. Another childhood memory become just that-a memory.

White Flint Mall used to be walking distance from my house and I used to go there after school to buy books, CDs/DVDs, and basically just hang out there. Really sad it closed down but I knew it was just a matter of time because in it's final years it became so empty it felt almost creepy.

From what I remember as a kid back in the late 70’s/early 80’s - each food stall was themed. The food stall for subs, had pipes, valves, hatches, etc to make it look like a submarine.

I helped in building the bloomingdales women & mens bathrooms The sink counters were black marble the floors were black marble the crown molding were custom designed by George Lucas The producer and director of the first Star Wars movie. Yes, Lucas was known to design trim . He did it in his home too. The trim in this store was super hard wood with a beautiful pink hue . I believe it was called pink birch . Which popped out at your eyes against those massive black marble slabs that made up the walls It had fluted columns from floor to ceiling with special made cabinets across the top of the mirrors with small high hat light fixtures. These bathrooms looked like they were worth 100,000 $ each . Really loved working on such a fine piece of artisan design . Sad to see it go .
