I hate how I know how to have a conversation and order food in spanish, but when we go somewhere that is Spanish speaking... suddenly all I know is gracias. I think for me, and a lot of people, confidence is a big part that is lacking. This guy.... he is all confidence and I have mad respect for him.

Please don't let the fear or anxiety prevent you from trying! Most people are so happy and proud that a foreigner is trying to learn their language because it shows you care. Of course there will always be miserable people in every culture but more often you will meet people who get a friendly laugh from seeing you speaking their language and some will even tell you that you speak better than they do or their children )since you'll probably be learning the academic language. If they correct you, they're just trying to help; no worries!!!

Believe on the LORD Jesus Christ for eternal life, he is the way, and the truth, and the life. Be washed by Jesus Christ today and obtain the Holy Spirit which shall guide you into all truth. Jesus Christ died for the sins of the whole word and no one is perfect but Jesus Christ, the one who came in the flesh, and arose from the dead, and now lives for ever. To be saved and to live for ever is only done by believing on the Son of God as the Saviour and LORD, no work is necessary to be saved. This eternal life which God shall give you can never be taken away by anyone! It is the gift of eternal life. Call today on the name of Jesus, and be saved. Pray to the only wise God, and ask him to save you, tell him that you believe in him. 1611 King James Version Bible Ephesians 2:8-9 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. 1611 King James Version Bible John 3:16 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Once, while in the subway here in my country (in São Paulo, Brazil) I heard 2 british guys saying that our educational system was bad because they had a hard time speaking with people in english. It made me so mad. Our first langue is PORTUGUESE, not english. They were in our country, they should at least try to learn some portuguese. The nerve. Wish more people were like this guy.

@well now, isn't that something my comment was a harmless joke, yours is pretty offensive tbh, outright racist if you ask me. It's nothing to do with intelligence it's just totally cultural. Many Asian countries are more reserved and humble so seeing a white guy speaking a language that even many Chinese struggle with is not only surprising but also very admirable.

It's not uncommon and you don't need to speak the language very well to have this happen to you. Especially when you are learning the language, your brain is processing it in your dreams. You have a good point. I'm Irish-American and worked in a Persian restaurant (blonde hair and blue eyes...stood out like a sore thumb haha)for almost 15yrs. B4 I learned Farsi, I never knew what the owners were saying in front of me but I definitely had a feeling I was the topic of conversation at times....lol...but it was never mean or malicious. For the record, I loved the owners and they became my second family. While not Muslim(I'm Catholic), I learned a lot abt Muslim holidays and celebrated them wth these lovely people, in addition to my own. Once in a lifetime experience. I highly recommend mostly caucasian Americans to step outside their comfort zones and expand their horizons (and hearts) by learning another language and become immersed in another culture.
