Grimace is supposed to represent _HUNGER_ and _DESIRE_ for the items sold at McDonald's. He's supposed to be a giant, purple, singular, swollen taste bud who can't satiate his appetite for milkshakes. He originally was a villain and had 4 arms so that he could steal twice as much food, just like the Hamburglar (or Plankton), but shakes instead of hamburgers. Then over the years they cut off two of his arms and made them all friends with Ronald because American culture changed over the years, so now we just have this weird purple dude. He's a giant, swollen, evil taste bud who _CRAVES_ milkshakes so much that it makes him *grimace* when he can't steal them, but now he's a good guy. Mystery solved, gang.

When I was younger and had more time for nonsense, I liked to buy photo frames with multiple openings in the matte for multiple photos, and leave in the “original” photos that were part of the packaging. I even made up elaborate family stories about the people in the photos in case I was quizzed. (I never was, so no one ever got to hear these stories.) Anyway, I’m older now and my sense of my own mortality is much stronger. I no longer feel I have the leisure time to pretend I have a white family with interesting back stories.

My dad had VHS tapes of the Sid and Marty Krofft collection since he liked watching it when he came to the U.S. as a teenager in the 70s. Also, there's more Grimace lore, McDonald's released an animated series with episodes on VHS tapes in the late 90s, one of those episodes is about Grimace Island.

Grimace's personality comes from his long lost, Irish, uncle: Uncle O'Grimacey. Uncle O'Grimacey was the face of the Shamrock Shake, and was canceled in 1980. He was canceled because, the man that wore the Uncle O'Grimacey suit was involved in the Irish Republican Army. SO, Grimace has ties to the IRA, from none other than a legend: Uncle O'Grimacey, face of not only the Shamrock Shake, but also the IRA .
