I did a presentation on that in college, believe it or not. Some cultures didn't have 'zero' as a mathematics concept, while others developed it independently of others. More often than not, there was a symbol used as a placeholder to denotate that there was no value, but it wouldn't be considered a number. Our modern concept comes from the Middle East (like a lot of other concepts in math), with the word "zero" possibly being derived from the Arabic word "sifr", meaning "empty". I believe that word is also where we get the word "cipher", but that's another topic. I'm sure this doesn't need clarification if you've read this far, but I am a nerd.

The thing about Hand-Washing actually happened although it wasn't in the middle ages. Semmelweis assumed doctors transferred disease carrying pathogens through their hands because doctors didn't wash hands about 200 years ago. They would go directly from an autopsy into the delivery room and deliver babies. Semmelweis was accused of being psychotic by his fellow doctors and lost his medical license due to this idea and was forcibly locked in an institution where he died early in his 40's. As science advanced, it was later discovered that he was right...of course.

I honestly believe humans have evolved mentally. Some of us are working with the evolved brain and some of us are working with the brain that is not made to survive. We literally can’t visually tell the difference between the two humans. The only difference that distinguishes evolved and not evolved is the inability of non evolved to see other human beings as human. I personally can’t look at others as unimportant or as objects. I firmly believe we have been going through a silent transition. Nature moves slow. His example and the horror stories is the transition illustrated. Any human that can kill other humans for fear or greed is not working on a sustainable model. Prime example in slavery. Literally it was not sustainable and it repressed progress. If you don’t draw from the whole, which can only be done when everyone works together, you’re not meant to survive. By the way, non evolved people are all over the world and in all social classes but if you’re evolved you can spot their hollow counterfeit behavior.

There’s also something we now call the Semmelweis reflex. It means the tendency to reject new knowledge or science simply because it contradicts societal norms. Poor dude. His cause of death was listed as pyemia-which means blood-poisoning. So, he likely died because some d***head didn’t wash their hands. That’s unconfirmed information, but one of the other theories for his death is syphilis contracted while delivering babies-another thing that antiseptic practices could have prevented.

They were so offended to have pointed out that something they did was literally toxic, even killing people, that they locked him up for . saying it. You should think it was a lie, but then you see how aggressively people encounter plain messages about injustice and discrimination and make "woke" a slur, as if "oblivious" was the ideal. And then it all seems like it could have happened just yesterday.

The hospital wronged him so bad too...the other male doctors basically just didn't like washing their hands from dead bodies to women's privates or woman to woman. If that doesn't say something about how women were, and still are, seen by society, then I dunno what else will.

Really, CC didn't expect the place to be empty, he "just" expected it to be India, which is somehow even more stupid. I didn't even think about the name "The West Indies" until recently, and how extremely stupid that name is. And of course, they didn't think of anyone else as someone who had "rights". Though they officially made up reasons why they didn't have to treat other people as people, I wonder how they where thinking privately. Maybe it was just: "If we can cheat them first and shoot them later, this place is ours by 'right' ". And if it's any comfort, (probably isn't) poor people in their own countries were being treated so horribly that it's clear they didn't have much respect for human lives regardless of geography or any kind of idea of "justice" attached to the lives of human individuals: In many European countries, poor people 1) couldn't move to another place unless they were allowed to ... sometimes even sold 2) had to work for the landowner in exchange for being allowed to grow a tiny plot of land themselves, barely enough to survive and sometimes less than barely 3) marriages were often decided by the landowner who also often had the right to sleep with the woman as a matter of course 4) torture was commonplace, especially whipping, beatings and something called "the horse" 5) the peasants could be rented out as soldiers and the money would be for the landowner, not the peasant. And they were the cheap "soldiers" that could be sent out to be more or less slaughtered so trained soldiers were in a better position to fight. I.e. their lives were not considered much 6) earlier than CC I know that in England, if you killed a horse, the compensation you had to pay was more than if you killed an Englishman, and - those money went to the landowner, not the victim's family. You paid compensation for lost workforce.

Man autumn is my favorite season! Pumpkin spice everything, brisk wind on my face and the leaves changing! I’m African American but loves me some damn autumn. I’m that one black person in my family that eats pumpkin pie instead of sweet potato pie lol

Being a black women from the north I favor pumpkin pie I noticed when the grocery store started selling sweet potato pie. It really has more of a pumpkin pie. Taste to it here in the north lol.🤩🍂🍁🎃

@@robertarowland728 What's the difference? I am Scandinavia, and both kinds are "interesting foreign food". I have made some dishes with pumpkin or sweet potato, but mostly it's Indian-ish or Thai-ish food, and they seem more or less interchangable in hte recipes I know. (DIfferent variations of "Put in a pot with onions and 5-10 different spices, pour coco milk on it, make rice, enjoy"). If I wanted to make a sweet potato pie, what would normally be the difference from a pumpkin pie? I mean, if I google a recipe, I might get two Northern recipes where the potato pie has an, as you say, pumpkin pie taste to it: But what I'd like to know is how their difference would traditionally be?

As an AfAm woman, I love autumn. My favorite season. I was born during the Fall and grew up where they have TRUE fall...leaves changing colors and falling. Brisk weather. Pumpkin Spice Chai lattes. Love it!! But if you give me a choice between Pumpkin pie and Sweet Potato pie? Sweet Potato wins every time
