White Rock ~Baby Crow Begs For Food! White Rock Eagle Mom Feeds Her Eaglet Not The Crow 5.15.20

Mom White Rock eagle begins a feeding for her eaglet and the little baby crow watches and cries out begging for food but does not get anything. The cries of the baby crow are not the same as a hawklet or eaglet and therefore they do not trigger the feeding response from the adults. In addition, a baby crow opens its mouth to have food stuffed down their crop - an eagle does not do this. Eaglets instinctively grab the food from the parent to eat not wait with its beak open like the crow. The crowlet is days away from being able to fledge so one of the greatest challenges right now is getting food to eat. Thank you for watching!

This is making me very sad. I’d hoped when crows were mobbing they’d somehow get the crow chick out. Red-tailed Hawk was strange but they are similar in diet & rearing of young. Really hoping for the best but if the crow doesn’t get food soon... 😕 i think the stuffed squirrel is my favorite ‘strange beings in nests’ this year! Esp since it took so long for her to get the fluff out. 😂 Thank you as always @ Lady Hawk for great footage showing daily ‘life’ that we are not usually able to be part of.

David Hancock said earlier today the baby is about 4-5 days away from fledging and it can go 2-3 days without food. It was brought into the nest yesterday (May 14th).

I’ve been watching all afternoon. There was a scary incident an hour ago as Dad came down to the nest and repeatedly grabbed the baby crow. I thought it was over until some machinery noise distracted him and he went for the leftover instead. The baby has been quiet ever since. Not sure if it’s slightly injured or gave up after repeated attempts. If it survives the night, the only way I see out is to either fall through the cribs or have parents come and grab him while the eagles are away.

I did see that incident with Dad coming to the nest. Unfortunately the crow parents are unable to grab their baby and carry it off.

Johnston Steiner exactly!! I see swarms of crows in parking lots on a daily basis. I saw one on two different occasions capture a fledgling mourning dove... for nourishment obviously but still. Crows are thriving and aren’t going anywhere.

It's pretty obvious that the baby crow is going to starve or thirst to death, letting nature take it's course! Now the question is, are you going to let it die or try to save it and have someone raise it, since I don't know if you know where the crow nest is, hopefully to be released some day?

Awwwww!!! The little crow is so cute. Remember this animals are wild. Naturally the mother Eagle feeds her chick and not the crow. She does keep the little fella under her wings there for a moment. she even fluffs up the mattress to keep the baby crow comfy. I thought she was going to adopt it. But lets be real, Eagles are just plain wild creatures he is probably going to end up in the menu. After all the Eagles eat their own eaglets if they die in the nest. Just wild nature. It can be hard to watch. Thank the LORD humans do not act this way. Amen.

The little crow will dehydrate soon, too. This is just too weird. If the crow baby would have gone for the food instead of waiting with mouth open, it probably would have been able to survive a few more days. I think all parties involved should have had a meeting and worked out a swap of some kind. Baby crow for some carrion, for example.

The description said the crow let was brought in for food ,..by who ? The eagle? But instead of eating it the eagle nutures it, was it brought in by humans? For views ? An eagle won’t hunt, bring something to nest and just leave it around their little ones, they’re over protective, I’ve never seen eagles hunt a birds nest, with an eaglet this size it needs bigger food , so I’m assuming this baby crow was stolen by a human, placed there for views

❤ Heart breaking.. I love Corvids & Eagles.. Sadly they have a relationship predating on eachother too. On edge of my seat for 3 hours watching this poor wee baby crow. 🤨😥 The parent Eagles had even tucked him in a couple times! The Eaglet is content , well fed & sleepy , lucky plenty food around. Worse , later on, I'm sure they were eating another baby crow! 😯 It was identical , definitely dead. A sibling even? They kept looking at baby as if thinking of feeding him.. His response isn't what they expect. They're confused. Later in evening the Male Eagle stuck his beak in baby crows mouth & I was hopeful.. Then he started clawing it with foot.😥 Not great prospects.. I see they are all sleeping now at midnight , baby crow in an Eagles nest.😯 Hopefully he will think to escape at Dawn 🤞 & somehow make it to another tree , he could have a chance, his parents would find him. 🙏🏻 ❤ 🐱♏☯️🌌🦅🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Sadly the baby has died this morning! Mom eagle got up suddenly as the crow parents dive-bombed the nest and the crowlet was on her foot/talon and fell backwards towards the eaglet. The crowlet got up but then the eaglet laid on it for an hour. When Mom gets up and the eaglet moves we see the crowlet underneath the eaglet dead. It looks like it suffocated. 💔💔 RIP brave little crowlet!

That crow is like the Elephant in the nest. Everyone knows it's there, but it's just ignored. Someone said or was brought into the nest. Did the Eagle parents bring it as food and then decide not to eat it? Can't believe the eaglet hadn't pecked it to death. I've seen that with a runt sibling.

Hi Sunny Day - yes Dad eagle brought it to the nest as prey and it started to cry out and beg for food. Both Mom and Dad did not kill it but also were unable to feed it (unlike the hawklet that we have seen in previous nests) The eaglets take food from the parent that offers it - but a baby crow just opens its beak and the parent must put small amount of food down its throat. So eagles are not really able to feed it. The crow ended up getting suffocated underneath the eaglet and died.

@@ladyhawk Awww. Thanks for your reply. When I saw this, I was reminded of reading about how this happens in the reverse with the sneaky Cowbird. They will lay their eggs in the nests of Bluebirds so that when the bigger, more demanding baby cowbird hatches, it overburdens the Bluebird parents and often does away with the rivals in the nest or the others just die from mal-nourishment because they are non aggressive and smaller. Well anyway, About these birds, I suppose if you have to go, that falling asleep (lack of oxygen) underneath something that thinks it's protecting you is much preferred over being ripped to shreds alive and fed to the one next to you. Such is the way of nature. 😏

@@ThePixilator Yes I prefer to think that falling asleep under the eaglet was preferable than starving to death slowly or eaten alive. Nature shows us so many things! That is sad about cowbirds laying their eggs in the bluebird nests and having them take over the nest.

It would have been very hard to get to a nest like that with the nest in the center of a bunch of branches all around away from the nest meaning you need to get through these branches to get to the nest. And getting to the nest your likely to damage it and or areas around it making less sturdy let alone be dangerous getting to it. Would it be worth life of a rescue team and possibly damage the nest to save a baby crow. I know its sad but you might make things worse interference in nature

No, eagles raise to chicks at a time. If one dies, it’s not unheard of for them to steal a chick from another nest as a replacement. The eagle parents really are trying to take care of the crow. Unfortunately the diet and feeding instincts of crows are too different from eagles, the baby crow will certainly starve

So far the baby crow still alive but had not gotten some food from the Rock Eagle 🦅 mother. I think - supposedly, if the baby crow was in the Black Storks’ nest, then she might would got eaten & fed for their babies 😱
