First heard this song in the summer of 1988 when I was overseas. It absolutely floored me! Whitney was in her element then, at the height of her powers.

Her biggest hits were cover songs. Do you remember "Saving all my love?" It was a cover. It was first originally recorded by Marilyn McCoo (From the group The 5th Dimensions) in 1978. Written by the late Gerry Goffin. And now you know. 1/31/2024

Every Whitney album had hidden gems like this, Miracle off the I am your baby tonight album, Be your lover tonight off that same album, the Whitney Houston album has a song with her and Jermaine Jackson that I love but never heard on the radio, I have never heard Miracle on the radio, and it is my favorite song by her hands down.

I think it was my parent’s generation that was holding on to the original song by The Manhattans. Eventually they had to let go of Gladys Knight and the Pips and welcome and accept the one and only “Whitney”…..”Whitney” first album where she had on a bathing suit. That is when I truly discovered the beauty of black women. All Natural….thank god I was a young man then. Good times…

Well that would make sense her vocals are so powerful that it would distort the recording mic so of course part of her technique is her level of control of the mic in the studio where as live she also has space to play with

Some local jazz station back then played this and For The Love of You very regularly, in between true smooth jazz and smooth jazz-y songs (and of course some SADE!), and always in the late evening until about 3AM.
