The Podling scene was my absolute favorite scene in the Dark Crystal movie. The main thing that got me was their unique music, instruments and their ability to have a good time even though they had Garthim and the Skeksis to worry about. The Podling playing the ocarina-type looking instrument is just amazing! The whole scene with the drinking and cavorting is just great. I'll never say no to watching that movie again and again, if only just to watch that one part.

Fun fact about the Podlings. Its funny that you mentioned that they resembled potatoes, in Jim Henson's original Mithra treatment he had described a race that were in fact living potatoes or a form of potato people. Thanks to revisions and concept art from Brian Froud, we got the Podlings we know today. If your ever interested, I suggest for future videos should check out some of the original behind the scenes and the concepts for the Skeksis. Its quite fascinating like Thra itself.

I like to think that the gruenaks share a common ancestor with podlings, much like we and the neanderthals. They have the same color, lack noses and ears, and have three fingered hands, except they went in different directions during their development, with the podlings opting for a life of farming while the gruenaks developed advanced technology.

Very little outside the show. A preview of the upcoming Bestiary book mentions very briefly how they once had a great technologically advanced civilization, but all traces of it are gone.

I see alot of similarities between the Legendarium and the Dark Crystal (Since ofcourse the Legendarium is the first of all Fantasy Epics) Podlings and Grottons being very similar to the Hobbits of Middle-Earth. Vapra are very High-Elven (Vanyar, Noldor and Falmari) Stonewood could be the Woodland Elves. Dousan are nearest to the Men of Harad (Except all the Dark Lord worship) The Urru and the Skeksis and Mother Aughra are just the Ainur Gruenaks focusing on advanced technology and being great craftsmen is nearest to the Dwarves. 3 weeks later: The reverence of the Vapra and Stonewood reminds me of the reverence that is given to the Children of Iluvatar (Elves and Men)

Yes indeed there are a lot of similarities between Podlings and Hobbits-- and also some between Gelflings and Elves. And humans are there somehow between these two groups....

Yes, indeed.Podlings are quite similar to Hobbits ( loving gardening, feasting, no need for writing; no beautiful but goodminded appearance..), and to some degree Geflings are a little bit like Tolkien´s elves....

This lore about them liking to be dirty muddy etc...is it from other sources in addition to the Age of Resistance Episode where Brea has to volunteer with the Lesser Service and they basically invade a podling village and forcibly bathe them? Id feel a bit better about that scene if there was actually lore about the podlings being muddy and it wasnt just that gelfling clans bigoted perception ...altho still shouldnt forcibly bathe them ...id just always assumed they were children at like podling daycare and the gelfling offered to clean them in exchange for the adult podling services.

the Netflix series has just overstretched the reality on Thra. Of course, Podlings are somehow simplemindet, and of course they won´t think of washing themselfes every now and then-- but of course, they are not mud- covered, and they don´t like it to bathe in mud, and there never were any Gelflings who had to clean Podlings (only in Netflix they do...)

Watch the movie! so to your question I can say: the healing of the crystal will cure all still living but harmed by the Skeksis, but it (unfortunately) will not bring back the dead ; with Kira it´s special a) she has just died 1 Minute bevore the healing, and b) there were the UrSkek as superior beings which could handle some high energies to bring back Kira´s life force...
