Navy SEALS get all the credit but I would say recon Marines are just as trained and mentally tough - just not as well known and glorified.

The only reason why they get more missions than Recon is because of SOCOM money and branch politics. If anything I’d wager that the average Recon Marine is “better” in a gunfight than your average SEAL due to the fact that they’re infantrymen first.

Marine recon OPS are trained to multi task, especially medics. Air Force para-rescue are no slouches either. The U.S. is fortunate to have all these groups of Special OPs, so i don't waste time guessing which are the best.

Wesley Barton there are no Marine medics, even in Recon. They still use Navy Corpsmen. They just call them SARC’s when they are used with Recon or MARSOC.

@@ek7404 They're all just as elite as each other, but no doubt Marine Recon have potential to be better individual gunfighters considering the infantry background of every Marine, whereas in the Navy you have guys who may not have trained as such due to their MOS prior to BUD/S. Also take into account the history of each unit, in Vietnam the Recon Marines were selected more often for MACVSOG due to their specialty in conducting deep recon and direct action, wheras the early SEALs were trained primarily in uncoventional warfare and direct action.

If I had to do it all over again I would have took the free college, get commissioned and be an officer. The only people that ever cared about someone being in recon were other Marines, or screwing or family of Marines who happened to know. What they're showing in this video is Basic Reconnaissance Course. It's a pretty freaking hard course but if you're serious about it and pretty darn good shape you can pass as long as your body don't break down and you can pass some of the swim troubles people have. BRC 2-98

I was Army first 82n and went to jungle expert school and Ranger school and reuped into the Marines went straight to Recon and went through the school and thought I had it down cause I was a Ranger big mistake I got my butt kicked and retired a Marine. Recon Marines make history Navy Seals, Army Rangers, Green Barets make movies but at the end we are all on the same team. Semper Fi.

12 weeks is regular boot camp to become a Marine. Also it takes 5 months because they want to weed out the weak. If you can survive 5 months of training then you will be able to perform at a high standard

Pipeline is you volunteer to Indoc test in, BRC 3 months, SERE 2.5 weeks, jump school 1 month (maybe 3 weeks), then Force has dive schools. Then after that you either go to the rear and work up and or to the 6 month R&S MEUSOC workup. (95-00 data)

Actually your wrong, both Recon and Force Recon have the same MOS 0321. The schools are dictated by what the platoon sgt. needs when the platoon is stood up. Force Recon is usually comprised of second term reconndos while the teams in battlion are usually comprised of first enlisters, aside from the platoon sgt. platoon Commander. TL's, and ATL's. Force Recon also works Directly for the Marine Expeditionary Force.
