As a 73 year old R O C K E R, I'm embarrassed to say I found Rammstein just over a month ago. I found their 2010 NYC concert at MSG and their Paris concert on Amazon Prime Video. OMG, both of those shows are off the charts. Coming out of East Germany during the fall of the Soviet Block in 1989 and still being together after all these years, how do you not respect these guys. They've been kickin' ass for over 40 years together. Not many bands can say that. They took Metal to a level I didn't know existed. I'd go see them tonight if I could. From what I can see, they're what live R O C K n R O L L is all about.

The actual music video doesn't have any live concert scenes in it. The video is about the way in which crimes are reported by the media, and it likely refers to the Gladbeck Hostage Crisis (there's an article on Wikipedia about it) in 1988, where two bank robbers escaped the bank with two bank employees as hostages and by hijacking a public transport bus with 27 people on it as hostages, too. Two hostages were killed, and one policeman died in a car crash during the chase. The whole ordeal lasted for two days, during which the bus was constantly surrounded by journalists and photographers who reported live on the situation, conducted interviews with the criminals and helped them by buying them coffee, food, and by giving them directions. If it hadn't been for the journalists and photographers, who hindered their actions or made them impossible, the police could have arrested the criminals much sooner, and they would likely have been able to save the lives of the killed hostages (also, the car chase in which the policeman was killed likely wouldn't have taken place). Although Rammstein's live videos are always great, you have to watch their official videos, they're always extremely well made and they give even more depth to their lyrics.

I am 17 years old and come from Germany. I grew up with Rammstein. Even when I was 3 years old, my parents sat me in front of the TV and turned on Rammstein videos. I was always perfectly happy watching them, my favorite thing to do (and I still do) is to watch the concert live from Paris. My parents have seen Rammstein live quite often. My mother has probably seen them 10 times now. I saw them live for the first time in 2019, then in 2022 and now last week I went to the dress rehearsal in we were standing front of stage (Feuerzone= Firezone), for which my mother won tickets, and I'm going to see Rammstein live again at the end of the summer. I'm already incredibly excited! I have to say that Rammstein concerts are not like normal concerts, I've seen a lot of bands like Green Day, Coldplay and Kiss but no show can compete with Rammstein. Not only the show is amazing, but also the lyrics, especially as a German native speaker you understand the background and in a completely different way. No live act has ever made me cry but when Rammstein opened the show in Prague last week with Ramm4, tears were streaming down my face because it meant everything to me. Rammstein is not just a band for many, many associate them with special memories and just a good time. For me, Rammstein is childhood!

If there was ever a music entity that has absolutely no credibility it's the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Joke is the only way to describe it. If you ever visit the USA, and you like Fender and Gibson guitars, go to Nashville TN and visit the Country Music Hall of Fame. I've never seen so many guitars that had been played by legends in my life. I stood in front of the various cases with my mouth open staring at what I was seeing. There's hundreds of them. The text is meant ironically. When he sings "I don't understand you" he means, I don't understand why you believe us and why you do everything we want you to do. It's a sing-along for the audience but at the same time a warning not to believe and do everything a charismatic person says.

So this song lyric wise, Till has said lyric wise, it’s about how we trust bands, speakers etc when they tell us to raise our hands or tell them to cheer and the crowd always does it never knowing the real intention of the person asking the people to do this. But the music video, Rammstein described "Ich will" as being a demonstration of the media's obsession with a good story, as well as an illustration of the immortality that can be achieved by those who commit wrongs.

The video was influenced by an incident in Germany at that time. Criminals took some people hostage and drove with them into city centers to give interviews to the press while on the run. They were captured in the end but some hostages died, one of them a young girl. There was an outrage about the behaviour of the media towards the criminals.

You are right, their official video and a live performance are mixed in your video. I assume the inspiration for the song and the official video was a true crime. In 1988 there was a bank heist in Germany (Gladbeck), after which the perpetrators fled and took hostages. During the escape, journalists conducted several interviews with the perpetrators and obstructed police work. After 54 hours of flight through almost half of Germany, the perpetrators were caught. Two hostages and a policeman were killed. The behavior of the journalists, who hindered the work of the police due to their close proximity to the events, later sparked an intensive public debate. In this video you've saw a few clips from the official video (from 2001), the clips with the live performence is from the 'Hurrican Festival 2016' with an audience of 75000 people. The audio to this video you've heard, was also live from Hurrican and not the studio version. For me, the live versions of their songs are way better than the studio versions anyway. So, just like it is in 'Wacken' mostly, we had very bad weather conditions on that day in 2016 at the Hurrican Festival. Fitting to that name, a Thunderstorm hit the Festival. After all, the concerts were suspended in the afternoon due to an acute warning from the German Weather Service, but were ultimately able to continue with a few cancellations and an hour delay. So Rammstein opend their monumental show shortly after midnight. Damn, what a NIGHT.....have a great start in a new week, friends & stay safe 🤘 🌈

Rammstein was the ones that got lucky.. Oomph was the originators of the genre. Eisbrecher is another great band in the genre. You should check out some Mittelalter Metal (Medieval Metal) as well. I highly recommend "Feuerschwanz - Valhalla Calling" and "Saltatio Mortis - Finsterwacht" as a starting point.

This song is about narcissistic manipulation (politicians, celebs, media etc.) in my humble opinion. Leastways it is my conclusion from the original music vid and the german lyrics. With this premise it is ironic when at the concerts the crowd gets manipulated into "answering" Till by singing the chorus thus giving him what he wants.
