With hypersmooth turned on you can get a jelly effect - especially with horizon levelling. This is because the stabilisation cuts out a proportion of the sensor image and can rotate this cutout to keep it steady. Because the squeeze from the lens was horizontally across the lens this can mean the stabilised cut out image has actually been squeezed at a diagonal. When this is desqueezed across the image the squeeze/deesqueeze don't match up and this gives the jello effect. You can also end up with a vignette as the Hypersmooth readjusts the image and gets to the edge part of the sensor that has the walls of the lens in it. It's better to rely on a gimbal, steadicam, dolly, or other mechanical stabilisation and then, if need be, stabilise in post after it has been desqueezed. I'm not certain if Final Cut will do this but in Davinci Resolve you can edit the clips attributes and change the pixel aspect ratio to 1.33 - this means that you don't need to adjust the scale/zoom controls for the full screen view and these can be used purely as a digital zoom without it getting confusing (depending on the recording and delivery resolutions of course). Now all you need to do is see if you can get the anamorphic oval bokeh in the background.

I bought one myself for my Gopro 10. Used it a lot and use Davinci Resolve Studio 18 to squeeze it down. You need to turn OFF hyper smooth and use a gimbal to stabilize your Gopro.

I'm using an anamorphic lens from moment on my phone. You have to disable the entire hardware stabilization or you will get a jelly effect during movement + possible vignetting. The stabilization has to come purely from the gimbal. When you turn around, you still see the vignetting caused by the hardware stabilization on the right hand side.

I wonder, couldn't you add the lensflare somehow in software in post?

I need to play around with the squeeze settings myself once I get mine delivered. But I feel the .75 scaling might be a bit off here. Things look a bit too squished. Although, if my maths is correct. 1/1.33 recurring, or 1/(4/3)... does equate to .75... Hmmm... Or maybe its ye olde "anamorphic mumps" that plagued early Cinemascope lenses that's showing itself? Where faces get horizontally distorted when in close up distances, which is generally the distances one is at with GoPro's. Also. I haven't touched FCP in over a decade but.. Most NLEs have a pixel aspect ratio setting (PAR) where you can simply enter the squeeze factor for the footage or the whole timeline to desqueeze things properly. It'd also be interesting to try out disabling in camera stabilization completely and do it all in post on the full 5K video output. I did order it for the fun toy factor. It'll be fun to experiment at least. :)

Please can i ask what ratio are you using. I’m finding the 1.33 :1 is stretching out too much

Can you use the Anamorphic lens with ND filters? Thinking of buying a GoPro 10
