Causative part of english grammar isn't easy to "interiorise" for me, so I'm really greatful for this "worked" lesson, by far the simplest and clearest I've ever taken about this topic.

There was the good lesson and vivid examples. Jade, you have the real authority! You actually made me (in the best sense of the term) understand how I can use causative verbs! I didn't know they were. Perhaps english teacher at school forgot to tell ;)

I teach number four (get) as persuasive, or indirectly manipulating: "Do whatever you have to to get him to say yes." "I think I can get her to sign in less than ten minutes." "He looks handsome if I can somehow get him to dress up a little!" etc. Fun video!

Sometimes, it's really close to how german works. To do past tense, you need to ad word "haben", which means to have, and then add a verb at the very ending. Ich habe es geschrieben I have it written.

@diego449311510 жыл бұрын
Superb. By the way, what's the difference between 'have' and 'get', how do you use them?...
@lrlizribeiro6 жыл бұрын
Have: You delegate the task, paying for it or not. Get: You convince the person to do the task. In the present or future tense, with "have" you use the "base verb", and with "get" you use "to + base verb". e.g.: I will have the mechanic fix my car. I will get my brother to wash my car.

* Tom let? or Tom lets?.
@mikhaylovaelena34387 жыл бұрын
It depends. It can be as the following: 1) Tom let them buy some ice cream yesterday. 2) Tom lets them buy some ice cream every Sunday. As you can see, 1) refers to the Past, 2) refers to the Present. The verb let has "let" in the Past (to let - let - let). Is that clear now?
