I mean Spider-Man was in part created as a means to flip the common trope that younger characters were more often than not relegated to be sidekicks. Spidey completely changed that, I get that that ideal in comics is antiquated by now but even still it feels weird shoehorning in this "Spider-Boy" so what is he Pete's Robin???.....idk if I like it tbh, I'm all for introducing new characters but not like this. I would say this is an effort to write that story of a cahracter lost in time adn space, that is always only told from the persepctive of knowing THEM because they have that real world history. I think it's pretty lame but this IS a good moment and franchise to do that, thanks to being so thoroughly ruined already with million BS Spidersona fan--fics. Commit to the bit, is all I'm asking, I can choose to NOT buy these comics as a single person, any day. But it's not a skill to be front-loaded with magic ablities because the writer needs you to love their fan-fic invention character. No need to ride the ass of all these "cool and powerful" paper dolls, like they made sure to ruin Miles with. Kamala only a bit less so. But this Bucky Barnes ripoff stuff after being jaded by Winter Soldier being TOO GOOD and too developed, is subverting exactly zero tropes.

My theory from this is, despite my limited knowledge of comics, Bailey was trapped in the dagger for WAY longer than we are told. Firstly, people have noted his strange writing, sounding much older than he's supposed to be, probably a good sign if we're to believe Bailey has been inside this dagger for far too long. There's also the fact he only was Spiderman's sidekick for 3 years, and neither Peter nor Miles knew him. We could PROBABLY assume that, if this IS his homeworld, Bailey was trapped in the dagger long enough before the comic that he was completely forgotten by the world. He also probably knew Peter and Miles as Spiderman through his visions, which seem to be a stronger version of Peter's spidey-sense.

The only issue I have is that they are writing his thinking and speech like that of a 16-17 year old, but he’s obviously supposed to be about 10 based on how everyone is treating him, his size, and of course saying 3 years is almost a third of his life. If you can’t write for someone that young, either don’t make him THAT young, or at least don’t make him the narrator of the story where we see he has the same thought process as someone mile’s age

As a life long Spider-Man fan, here's what I think imo. Since I heard of the new character of Spider-Boy coming out, I have to admit, I never took it seriously. Mainly because Spider-Man has always been one of the main heroes that never needed a sidekick. He's at his best and vulnerable when we works alone. Yes, there's the introduction of Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen, but they can stand up on their own two feet, and their origins resemble that of Peter's in walking the lonely path of Spider-Man. Giving Spider-Man a sidekick kind of devalues how he is and takes that away. Now yes yes, you can make the argument that Miles is Peter's sidekick in PS4/PS5 game, but that continuity is going to progress where Miles will eventually take over for Peter. Introducing Bailey (Spider-Boy) just comes out of nowhere. Why after all this time, does Earth 616 Peter need a sidekick all of a sudden? Idk, I could be looking to deep into it and reaching. It just doesn't make sense to me. But hey, he's made his comic debut, so let's see how this plays out. Now, if Spider-Boy was his own Spider-Man in an alternate world like the others are, then it would be a bit more accepting. But being 616 Peter's "sidekick", just doesn't sit right with me.

At first I was off put but this feels like it has had actual thought put into it and that Dan slott wanted to do this (or add all thought about it) since he's made a good character. I liked how Peters spider bite was unique to only him. Gotta say I'm not a huge fan of Spider-Boi... Him being Spider-Man since he was 7 years of age and fighting dangerous Villains like the gold Gobble is... ludicrous! I know people will be like OMG Batman trained Dick and Tim Drake at a young age. True, but I'm pretty sure Dick was 10 and Tim was a tad older when he became Red Robin and they were trained by Batman from the get go. I also find it hard to believe that a 10 year old is supposed to be far more capable than Peter for pretty much his whole career, and has supposedly been around for ages. The reason the court of Owls worked in Batman, was because the writers cleverly used already existing lore in the Batman mythos. While this character just piggybacked on the whole Spider-Verse hype.
