Awww, I was expecting a Bizarro joke. Also, Shakespeare was an INFP? Even though he died more than 250 years before Carl Jung was born and more than 300 years before the MBTI was created?
@FancyKerbloops9 жыл бұрын
+KingOfMadCows Supposedly scholars who've researched him (or any other historical figure) enough, would be able to respond as if they were him, and achieve results similar to what he would be. Assuming that assessment is even accurate, what insight does that really give us?
@1SaG9 жыл бұрын
+KingOfMadCows Not to defend this particular test here, but consider this: Newton's laws of motion were a real thing for people like Julius Caesar - even though he and nobody else alive during his time knew about them other than perhaps intuitively. And again: I'm not saying this test is comparable to laws of physics, just pointing out that Jung didn't "invent" human personality. He was just trying to "quantify" it.
@KingOfMadCows9 жыл бұрын
+1SaG Jung's theory was not based on controlled scientific experiments. Also, you need evidence to apply scientific theory. Yes, Newton's laws of motion do apply to someone like Julius Caesar. However, if you want to figure out something specific like how fast Caesar could run or how far he could throw, just knowing that the laws of motion applies won't tell you much. You'll need some pretty detailed descriptions about his physical capabilities to make an educated guess. Personality is something that's far more complex than your physical capabilities. It's pretty easy to measure how much you weigh, how tall you are, how fast you can run, etc. It's much harder to measure your preferences, your hopes and fears, how you interact with other people, etc.
@napoleon_bonaparte24629 жыл бұрын
+TheYouthHeroic There's more to it than that, if you understand Carl Jung's theory, there are cognitive functions for each type. When you understand how a person thinks, it is relatively straight forward to type them. For example, INFPs like Colbert and myself lead with Introverted Feeling (Fi) which is a preference for being genuine and authentic and aligning yourself with your values. Our secondary function is Extraverted iNtuition (Ne), which is a preference for conceptual, abstract and big picture thinking. It becomes reasonably clear which type of person you are by the values that you hold, the way you make decisions in your life, and such, even in the writings of dead Greek philosophers from 200 BC.
@FancyKerbloops9 жыл бұрын
Bloodmoon All I'm saying is if you have enough information to accurately answer as if you were the person already, there's probably not much more to be gleaned from the test results.

Wait, wait, wait... Stephen Colbert and I are the same personality? Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa... *5 minutes later* ...aaaaaaat? Really though. It does, however, make sense. INFPs can take characters and embody them. But like people notice with Johnny Depp, they can appear very reserved outside of their character... although that's not always the case.

@@me_lero ooof. Apparently I didn't do enough research 4 years ago. ENTP makes more sense. Thanks for the heads up!

INTJ is just winning. I was so happy when I saw Marx, Nietzsche, Asimov, Christopher Hitchens, Terry Pratchett.. and we have Augustus Caesar, for crying out loud. However, I could have done without Breivik. Lenin I don't mind so much.

What she says about us being so warm and some people not being able to see that is so accurate. I feel like I care so deeply of others and things but people sometimes get confused.

pappaOfswe Now it does sound like Stephen hosts OP ... and his mom's favorite tv show. I think the correct grammar would be 'I share the same personality type as the guy who hosts my mum and I's favorite TV show.' Sounds a bit weird, but is correct. A more natural flow would be 'I share the same personality type as the guy who hosts the TV show which is my mum and I's favorite.'
