Some people can be isolated and not feel lonely at all. You can also be in a crowded room and be incredibly lonely. They're very different experiences.

I'm 28, I've never had a best friend, growing my friends where my main bullies, when I ditched them I had 1 or 2 friends but it never lasted, they never wanted to hang out. I've never had a girlfriend and I'm estranged from all of my family, when not at work I spend 23 hours a day alone in my house. I remember being at Doak Campbell stadium, a stadium that holds 85,000 people. I lost my friends for about 15-20 minutes, and found out that they had actually moved while I was in the bathroom. After discovering that I was going to have to search for them in a crowd of literally thousands of unfamiliar faces in a massive sports stadium, I felt completely alone. It's weird that New Zealand was one of the last places discovered. The cook islands and hawaii make sense, but new Zealand is a large piece of land less than 2,000 km from australia which has been inhabited for 10s of thousands of years. I mean Hawaii is 4000 kilometers from the nearest big landmass (california) and 7 or 8 k from japan/papua new guinea/australia and it was discovered and settled several hundred years earlier!

The way i see is like how everyone is alone in their own mind. That's the only true thing. There's nothing else other than your own mind. No matter how social you are or how many people surround you. At the end of the day the only thing that is actually of any meaning is the mind you've got. I guess.

"The odds are pretty good that you're within a close distance to another human somewhere." I live in a jungle in Hawaii and I'm so isolated that my house has no connection to roads. My neighbors are maybe an hour walk away :)
