Football is built around being a team player it is more "alpha" to look after your team more than just yourself, so in contrast selfish people are the real betas. Also Ronaldo does not Defend, he rarely cheers on his team and yes he's expected to assist since he plays as a winger, it's his role, it's his job to cross, pass and make runs. Ronaldo is a brand, but to call Messi a working class player ahead of Ronaldo is baffling. Ronaldo has come from a very poor background from nothing and has worked his tail off to get where he is. Chris Elphick Messi came from an even more poor background. But Messi has to grow through La Masia which is hard because most of those kids don’t get anywhere near the first team. But Messi did it and not only did he make it to the first team, but he became the cornerstone of the team and made himself the best in the world. Let’s not forget Messi had a growth deficiency that he had to pay for. Both these players worked hard to get where they are so let’s just enjoy them.

Salah has had one good season. If he scores 30+ a season consistently and helps Liverpool to some silverware then yes he can be spoken amongst Ronaldo and Messi. Cr7 is more suitable to play in any team strong or weak. Since he can head , hit with left or right and when going get tough he is even better. Messi is greatest in Barca but the moment he has to play in a Arg he is half effective. He need that set of players around him who is as intelligent as him to visualise his passes and ideas. Simioni put it as simple as he could Against ATM he had two chances to head and boom they are out. Juve didnt scored single goal from open play in 4 matches but cr7 scored 4 from headers. Dribbles, joga bonito, they were truly special......Messi has just speed, same with Ronaldo (with physical strength) coupled with forced dribbles ie the step overs, they don’t come natural as it does for Neymar or a Hazard (in his days in Lille) Statistics Ruined football, infact I would argue Iniesta (in his prime) is levels above Messi and Ronaldo . Neil Bradley i understand its ur opinion but i seriously disagree, the euros he won in france, he only played 30mins in the final and wasnt on the pitch when portugal scored. Btw, Ronaldo hasnt won 3 back to back but only 2(which is still remarkable) but this is very dependent on how good a side real madrid have been. Messi has been far more crucial to barca and argentina than ronaldo has been for real and portugal. Take away ronaldo’s league goals last season and real would finish 2nd, take away messi’s and barca would have finished way down in mid table. The problem with these debates is that all players go in and out of form to some degree. Hazard, for example, was performing like a top five player in the world in 2014-15, and close to that in 2016-17. On the other side of the coin, he basically took a season off in 2015-16, and has been veey good without being amazing this season. In England, De Bruyne is what's 'in' right now, so hell get ranked higher. But go back 12 months, and it was the other way round. People have short memories.

It has never made any sense to me that in order for a player to be considered the best of the best, that he has to have won a World Championship. What if the best player was born in Lichtenstein? There's no chance that he'd win anything then. It may have seemed like Maradona pulled his team through to win the WC, but I bet you that there's a myriad of underlying reasons why that happened, that just made things "pop", that you just can't transfer over to todays Argentina team. Also as a side note: When Messi was named the best player of the tournament back in 2014, it was just an embarassment, because he clearly hadn't played at his best then and you could see it in his face when he accepted the award, that he knew he didn't deserve it. Often these awards just go to the "hottest name at the moment", automatically, like we see with the Ballon D'or. It's the reason why Ronaldo got it in 2016 when Portugal won the European Championships, but clearly he didn't "do a Maradona" as he didn't even play the final, so the Portuguese team was clearly much more than him.

Portugal scored 9 goals in that tournament and Ronaldo scored (if I remember correctly) 3 goals, gave 3 assists - that is he was involved directly in 6 goals out of 9 that Portugal scored. In addition to that he gave confidence in his team mates (when he told Moutinho to take a penalty against Poland even though he didn't want) and in the final he was like a second coach after getting injured. He didn't "do a Maradona" but he WAS the most important player of the team.

As of now, Neymar is said to be no 3 as he still gets the goals. Suarez was reputated to be third best for a long time. Same for Neuer. Other players worth mentioning are Zlatan (scored 50 goals for psg in 15/16 before joining united), Aguero, Hazard, KDB, DDG, Bale (during one season), Lewandowski, Aubameyang and Harry Kane. Mo Salah is the next up and coming. Imo, Cavani and Dani Alves are often overlooked but they are top top players.

It's a hyperbole. But lots of players have a peak in which they are considered very good players. Think of any player like Wilshere, Drinkwater, Moses etc where they have one or two good seasons but simply can't keep it up. Not only have Ronaldo and Messi gone to the very top but they maintained it for 15 odd years. Igor M look at the players that Neymar has been getting service from: Iniesta, Messi, Suarez, Rakitic, Mbappe, Cavani, Veratti and even Xavi. Whereas Hazard has had some great players assisting him I think Neymar has better players. Plus Hazard has performed outstandingly in a much harder league as well

WTF are these people talking about? If we talk about careers the third is definitely Iniesta. He has won the WC scoring the winning goal in the final, has won the Euros, and countless CL and La Liga trophies. He is not shining as Messi or Ronaldo but he is one of the pillars of Barca and Spain for most than a decade.

I for one enjoy watching these two play head to head for the top spot before it's over.
