This is sort of what I was thinking. How the first sighting, he's missing some facial features, is unreasonably tall, and chases after the victims. His second sighting, he had the missing features, wasn't mentioned to be unusually tall, and although abruptly and rather dangerously, he seemed to calmly approach the second victim. It seems he's learning.

On top of that, the light is probably there because the entity had learned that humans are rather afraid of the dark or maybe even overhear compliments that relate to being bright, for example “you’re brilliant” and interpreting it wrong. Because human often think of light as a positive thing it may have interpret it the wrong way, and literally physically glow.
