When we had Dion I knew instantly that I had my "Star Girl." She was (and is) so beautiful. I put Vogue magazine in her hands as soon as she was able to hold it and Vogue became practically her first grade reader. We poured over every page at night. I tell this true history because of the "girl" in "Star Girl." Your grandmother, Generation Next'ers, the great Susan Sontag, wrote that for a woman "there is one standard of beauty: the GIRL." (her emphasis). That is the truth and Sontag wrote it with bitterness. There is, imo, no reason for bitterness in truth; it simply is. More substantively, have any of you ever heard of a "Star Boy" aesthetic? Of course not, guys are gross. Do you realize, Generation Next young women, that you ARE the standard of beauty worldwide? You make older women smile and older men sigh. You will go on to be other things, professionals, discoverers, artists, change-makers, leaders, significant others, mothers--Women Hold Up Half the Sky--but only you can be a Star Girl and you can only star when you are young. That is truth. As Dion says, fashion is about "fantasy": to be and to do whomever and whatever you wish for one night, for one time in your life. This is your time: embrace it, elevate it, celebrate it. Shine, twinkle, glow. You are the stars in humankind's heaven. Merry Christmas to you all. And to the star atop my Christmas tree, Dion.

THANK YOU SUBSCRIBER "CH"! I didn't know what you were going to do this week but feared it would be another melted snow runoff water palette in which case I would have to take heroin. I absolutely LOVE this aesthetic. One of your rules that you have taught me is to ask yourself, "What is the fantasy here?" There was no fantasy being offered in dreadful Downtown Girl. But this? Fantasy out the ---. I love the way you intro'd Star Girl. "Nobody knows what she does during the day but everybody counts the minutes to see her at night." That's a DREAM. Doesn't everyone want to be a Star Girl just once in our lives? Superb fantasy! Of course I agree with you that the daytime Star Girl is bland but as you say it's the contrast: You see the same woman at night and go "Who is SHE?!" "Uh, like you work with her, man." It's a version of Cinderella. Everyone deserves to wear the glass slipper once. Personal note: love the blouse. Glittery. Tons of thumbs up. ("CH", suggest something for next week, pls.)

I never knew this was an aesthetic. Always thought its just the title of the Weeknd feat Lana del Rey song . Since I’m totally into glittery stuff I’m going to use this as my Christmas outfit inspiration 😁🌟

I love a celestial moment and the glitter and glamour. But I do feel like this particular aesthetic and those similar very much emphasise skinny white girls. I also don't like the emphasis on luxury beauty products. Dior products have very pretty packaging, but they are mostly nothing special. The aesthetic would in general feel very standard NYE without the luxury brand label pop-ups.

Speaking of the Taylor Swift video, I let that inspire my work outfit one day and I got SO many compliments!! I'm gradually making my workwear actually fit my style, rather than falling into the trap of limiting office styles (think Express, Anne Klein, etc ready to wear office outfits). They never fit quite right and I felt very awkward and "not myself". All that to say, fashion vids like yours are very helpful. It would be cool to see a video showing different "office wear" looks based on some of your favorite aesthetics. 😉

Hi! You should do the vintage Hollywood glam aesthetic! They say that it’ll resurge as a sub genre of fashion with the grungy/tumblr aesthetic coming back! Think Lana Del Rey but hopefully we’ll get more BIPOC representation in it :)
