A few years ago Turtle Wax made an aerosol that I sprayed on my truck tires, it lasted almost a year of daily driving in all types of weather, I ran it through a carwash one time and they sprayed wheel cleaner on them and it ate it off. Of course Turtle Wax pulled it off the market because an $8 can would do 2 vehicles and last a year, no money to be made I guess.

Meguiar's Endurance tire gel. Is a huge surprise. After many years of using all types of tire shine and cleaning products. Endurance is very affordable and works like no tomorrow. Your tires do not even have to be very clean but not covered with mud. You will have to apply 2 or 3 coats but it goes on so easily. I have used the same all-purpose microfiber terry towel for 2 months. It is saturated with Mequiar's Endurance tire gel. One 16-ounce bottle has enough gel to do 60 tires or more. Again, I have repeatedly used the same 8x8 microfiber towel and have never seen it contaminate or smug a tire I have already applied Endurance on often. It keeps your tires shiny, even after driving in the rain there is no noticeable loss of shine. It has a nice Gloss, not super gloss like having a mirror shine. Touch-up is a breeze if needed. I purchased 4 Mequiar's Endurance tire gel a couple weeks ago from Advanced Auto Parts on sale 2 for $12, 4 for a total of $24 minus $5 Perks Reward was $20 making it $5 per bottle. Wow! For $20 I have enough tire gel to do my 2 cars for a whole year possibly 2 years. I have used a quarter or 1/4 of a bottle applied numerous times and on several of my neighbor's vehicles. This Meguiar's Endurance works like a charm. Oh! it smells a bit like grapes ... nice odor. I wear a Nitrile Glove as it is a slick gel when wiping it onto the tires. Yes! there are spray tire shines but they cost more and quickly run out of product. ** about Meguiar's Endurance Tire Gel ** Advanced, long-lasting formula endures even through washing and rain. Rich gel eliminates overspray, runs, and drips providing an even and consistent high gloss shine. Protects against UV damage and browning. Advanced polymers provide lasting, high gloss protection keeping tires black with a rich, dark high gloss. High gloss shine that lasts for weeks, Long-lasting, high gloss shine.

I gave the Exoforma a shot this spring. Prior to application, I deep cleaned the tires about 3x with Adams wheel/tire cleaner because I have a lot of it handy. The whole process was pretty time consuming for a tire shine application. I'll probably do it again on my next set of tires, but for most people I can see it being too much work for too little gain. The gloss didn't last very long, but dirt doesn't stick to the tire. As long as you don't apply other tire shines over it, you can wipe your hand on the tire without anything noticeable coming off after months of driving. A quick rinse with a hose or a drive through rain will clear what dust has accumulated. A quick wash with just car soap will restore the uniform deeper matte look. So, in effect, it's coated, but it's not going to be "shiny" for very long (as their ads suggest).

This is just my opinion, but I personally feel that tire dressings, no matter the formulation, are really only useful on a vehicle that is washed and mildly detailed on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. I’ve gotten really good results from Meguires “Endurance” tires dressing. But even still, no matter my personal mileage with the longevity of the product, I think that for most people you will see these exact results. If you like the look of black conditioned tires, you’ll need to apply regularly relative to how much you’re driving and what your driving conditions are (like you said, garage Queen Vs daily driver). As of right now, based on what I’ve seen and used, there is NO “Set it and forget it” tire dressing. They all require maintenance just like plastic dressings.

I found that petroleum or silicone based products work best for me. My wife's Range Rover came with a kit of "Land Rover" labeled car care products. In the kit was a bottle of tire dressing that smelled just like lighter fluid....the stuff was awesome and very long lasting. And to my amazement it was just as flammable as lighter fluid when sprayed at an open flame, literally igniting like WD-40. Every water based product I've ever tried fails within a day when the car is driven through a rain storm.
@PlatinumRatio Жыл бұрын
I don't ke putting those chemicals onto rubber. It would destroy rubber trim, so why use it on a tire. What I do like, is how good it works on plastics, especially after you wipe it on a tire, as it dissolves rubber and the result is a very waterproof plastic treatment.

Tires have waxes and oils in them. They wick all of that towards the surface through use. If they just sit, they eventually dry rot. What I'd like to see in local stores, is a wax for tires. Something that contains similarities to what tires contain, along with UV inhibitors. After taking dull, brown and grey oxidation out of tires with tire cleaner or degreaser like Purple Power, I'd like a natural finish that keeps tires from oxidation, and a product that does not attract dirt/dust. To keep the sidewalls looking like brand new. Regular 303 would be the cleanest (no gunk), but it lacks what tires need. Some kind of wax with oils in it. I remember Turtle Wax had a paste wax for paint called Ice. Maybe something something similar to that for tires.

Is there a different between solvent and water based products? For example, the Chemical Guys VRP product is water based so you won't get the shine BUT isn't water based products far better to protect against sling of the products onto the car after you drive around. I have read that most solvent based products sling onto the paint around the car. Then adding to what the video mentioned that they last around 3 days makes me think the water based product should be used otherwise you get the sling of the product for not much result (longevity).

Interesting. We know that most can't maintain a glossy look for more than a few days. But the market doesn't desire that, anyway. What's more is that the better coatings maintain a tire darkening effect and hydrophobicity for weeks if not months. There are a couple here in your test that have shown that in tests done by others.

Scott HD did a test of hundreds of tire shines 2 years ago; LoneStar and DuraCoating appears to be the most durable tire coatings. There is also Renew Protect Blak which is also pretty permanent but it’s a matte finish. These three coatings require the tires to be prepped extensively. Almost like sanding and prepping a carbody for a clear coat. I’ve used all three and LoneStar has the most gloss over time. The DuraCoating is pretty glossy but starts to matte, but it doesn’t mean the coating is gone. The Blak is really matte, but it’s really good for tires that sit around exposed to the sun like RVs, trailers, golf carts etc.

As for the permashine product which is very costly, it has an acrylic component in the formula. Try putting anything that is acrylic on a pair of leather boots and see what happens!!! An acrylic formula will cause leather boots to crack in a heart beat and so some jackasses in the military used to apply acrylic to their boots and dress shoes and the end result is a true catastrophe!!! Personally, I would try to use baby oil which is a refined mineral oil based on a thorough used an almost spent set of tires just because I can and I'm a cheap bastard!! Furthermore, Dawn dish detergent should get tires clean along with using a rotary brush that is attached to a drill I believe should also work for the cleaning of my tires. It might take two tries to get all that road grime off and a though rinse each time but what the hell! 303 with 3 coats might do the trick. In addition to the thorough cleaning, if you were to hit these tires with 91% isopropyl percent alcohol with a wiping them down before any type of coating, well then the product that you apply just might soak in like nobody's business!
