FGC have a lot of salty members that will blame anyone and anything but themselves for losing, so it's not surprising. I reality most FG players don't care, hell I think input cleaning is actually the most questionable thing they have done as their is software fundamentally changing your inputs for you. That being said I believe input cleaning was requested by the FGC to make the stick "fairer" as some older FGs don't clean inputs on their end as they assumed the controller would never be able to press 2 opposing directions at the same time and can give an unfair advantage with the glitches/exploits it causes. That being said afaik keyboard players don't have to clean their inputs so consistency clearly isn't a priority for TOs.

My wonder is if Capcom balanced Guile with the DualShock4 in mind, or a standard arcade stick. If it's the latter why not just force the DS4 users to choose either analog or Dpad? Would be a clean and quick way to put this controversy to bed. It is almost as if Capcom wants companies like HitBox to bend the rules with products like this.
@Biggiejohn3 жыл бұрын
Guile was created in SF 2. Everything was created for the arcade cabinets in mind. However through all of gaming history there are developers and their intentions, and then there are gamers and their desire for fun/competitive gameplay. When it comes to having a game register your inputs as clearly as possible it is never a bad thing. This would only be bad if they started having 1 button do more than a single input. If the FGC keeps stopping input growth the scene will die over time. The PC has gone through this issue the entire span of gaming. People wanted to complain about pads/input remapping/macros. In the end Developers only restricted/punished multi macro inputs. They all continued to allow input remapping. Input mapping and layout distribution is on the consumer end. It is not a developers responsibility to tell us how to play on our end input.
@hippopilot67503 жыл бұрын
I believe controllers like the Cross|Up, Hitbox, Mixbox and Smashbox will bring in a new era of fighting games and create new styles of play for previous titles. They may do things that a standard controller couldn't, but that's evolution. We used to not even have bumpers, let alone analog triggers on controllers. Dribbling in basket ball was originally a loophole many called illegal. Move cancelling, frame advantage, Korean backdash, infinites, wave dashing; they all have routes in experimentation and exploitation of the system. Some people still call gyro aiming cheating! Not only do these new controllers explore and expand the mechanics in fighting games, they build up the community. Why should you purposely hold yourself back in the interest of "fairness"? It's like using a bicycle for a dirtbike race. Walk into the new light that is the FGC!
@dontneedtoknow96292 жыл бұрын
This is not the same as dribbling, which didn't increase monetary barrier of entry (gotta buy new stick to be able to do these techs). When these techniques transform from a small cheat to a must, no one will want to play as there isn't an even playing field and buying a stick that costs as much as 3-4 AAA games just to play fighting games will never be feasible for casuals. It's the same thing why coaching in competitive e-sport is such a controversial subject, as it means that competitive and casual are not even the same game, as opposed to competitive being same game just pushed to its limits. I'm not vehemently opposed to this stick as the shortcuts you can get already exists as macros. As long as offline still reigns supreme a lot of these things will be online tech only. But TO's and game devs will have to set rules for how they want their game to be played, as these will become more and more popular.

@sparrow6504 жыл бұрын
[It’s an] Innovative design, if not a bit clunky. I personally find the original hitbox concept more elegant, and conventional sticks more fun. As far as legality, so long as it does not provide a function that cannot be performed on a Sony controller, I have no problem. However, devices having more than one set of controls for movement does, at least in my view, step beyond the original concept for movement in fighting games. And since the standard Sony controller is such a device, and must be permitted for use, it and devices with similar functionality present our current conundrum. Perhaps the solution, if one is demanded, ought to be approached from the other side of the equation, on the software side. If we are meant to play the game with one set of movement controls, would it not be simpler for the games to include a toggle option (in the menus) to select EITHER D-pad OR analog stick for inputs? This would restore the original concept for movement, and the additional coding required seems minimal. Even if it wasn’t easy to implement the software change, I believe it would be worth the trouble, and should go a long way to level the playing field and appease those opposed to devices with multiple movement controls, including the Sony controller.
@NihongoGamer4 жыл бұрын
I think this is a very reasonable solution. The only trouble is that many people practiced and learned the game with these analog stick tricks and used them in tournament for 3-4 years so even if the option were made available, seems unfair to enforce a one-movement-input-device-only policy I guess

There's a few different types of SOCD, the most common one (used on Hitbox/Cross-up) is: L+R=N, U+D=U; the DS4 uses last input priority: L+R=R, U+D=D. The common neutral type has a lot of general tech, and the last input type is typically better for charge characters. All of the Brook Fighting Boards have SOCD built-in and can even switch between these two types. But tournaments have their own rules about all this, so I think most people wouldn't want to waste effort learning a certain type of SOCD if it's not gonna be allowed.

I found your channel as I was interested in the MixBox, and still want one but it's just so expensive. To be honest, it should depend on a player's personal preference. Ultimately, game devs should be the deciding factor on how their games should be played. If Capcom wanted to use true neutral SOCD they would set it in the coding of the game. Since they didn't, I don't see why last win should be a problem. I get that it reduces execution barriers for some motions, but that just makes it possible for more players to perform the motions required for high level play. Being able to execute a move or combo doesn't tell you wether you should execute said move or combo, you still need the hours in the training room pouring over frame data and practicing the timings to master your chosen fighter. On top of this, each control method offers unique benefits, such as sticks being better for 360 motions. Ultimately, if I could carry one controller that would let me switch between a 360 character and a shoto then I would be happy. As a side note to this comment, I'm familiar with all forms of control, pads, sticks, and even just bare PC keyboard. I personally prefer buttons for directions as I don't play 360 characters and like the precision inputs offered by things like the mixbox and hit box. Ultimately, this changes the barrier to entry from execution to character knowledge and frame data, which in my opinion, is a good thing for the FGC as a whole. We need fresh faces and that won't happen unless we tackle the complexities of these execution barriers that so many people can't wrap their heads around.

I don't understand the part you talked about the joystick being the analog stick. I am planning to get one and replace the joystick with a WASD set up because of my wrist pain. Will that still be tournament legal under 1 d pad and 1 analog stick major tournament rules?

I’d need to double check the rules but I’m pretty sure u can only have one button per direction in addition to an analog stick.

What's the functional difference between an analogue stick that looks like a normal joystick, and just a normal joystick?
@no_nameyouknow4 жыл бұрын
None for fighting games. Basically, as he said in the video, analogue has a varying levels of directions. So slightly pushing left in a game might make you walk and pushing it all the way will make you run. Digital input is just left on or left off, there is just a button that the joystick presses when you push it left.
@teiten38064 жыл бұрын
It’s just about how the game treats it, most fighting game make them have the same fonction so it doesn’t really matter but for competitive purpose we regulate the controler according to certain standard. Since most tournament ban controler with multiple time the same bouton (like Having 3 square bouton on a controler) for fairness purpose. The mix box get away by making the stick an analogue joystick input and the direction bouton d-pad input

NihongoGamer Hey, bud! It’s the same Blaine from Twitter. You planning on getting a Cross Up, maybe? If they switch up the button layout I’d heartily recommend! Especially having the ability to play straight to Switch or PS4. I’m currently using a brook adapter to make mine work with the Xbox. I don't think a controller that allows for opposing simultaneous directional inputs should be allowed. Yes I'm aware that the PS4 dualshock allows for it, but it's impractical. Whereas this controller makes easily possible.

not from the FGC just looking for a stick but is the hole spirit of execution not gone from a charge charackter .. if we already play around how to charge .. why not just make a button x) i feel like its cheating and the personality of the char is gone .. else just in generel make hadoken s instead of charging charackters .. there is no reason to have charge inputs in the future if this becomes the norm, i dont know :) just how i feel about it.

Except for one problem: the joystick is NOT analog. Therefore it is not emulating the exact same thing as the official PS4 joystick. Also, I don't like giving people the freedom to modify joysticks freely, because it creates a pay2win advantage situation. EDIT: Just to clarify, claiming it is analog is not the same thing as proving it is analog. I've seen several videos and it is mechanically built the exact same way as the Arcade Joystick; but with emulated analog inputs. It will never be able to do anything that a REAL analog stick can do.

This is taking away the execution barrier in fighting games. And I don't understand why people would want that? People will say that the decision making is the most important thing, and so we should try to neuter execution to where you only lose to poor decisions. But it takes an even greater level of skill to make the right decisions AND pull off moves/combos during those clutch moments. Lowering the skill ceiling is only going to lead to a more apathetic FGC and a crowd that won't be as hype as it once was.
