Almost no one has heard of John Salzerrando, but in my opinion his rookie season was unmatched. He won every single race that he entered. But he also didn't win any races because I just made him up. ;)

thank you . i was 12 yrs old in 1972 . you make a V E R Y good point . i have never thought about it but kenny roberts going to europe changed the way EVERYBODY rides a motorcycle and turned grand prix motorcycle racing into a GLOBAL sport . keep up the good work

Keep more of these coming. I’m not much of a bikes or MotoGP man as I like the European and American motor cross championships but I’m a four wheel man through and through. However this channel has got me interested in bike the past few days. Good work

As someone who didn't start watching MotoGP until the late 2010s and only went back to '01 watching the year end reviews I thoroughly enjoy content with great historical information like this. Cheers mate!👍🏿

I think kenny is a fair choice considering the path to get there. He didnt spend years in lower classes on the same schedule of track. He just showed up in the championship and won it

Pedro Acosta has only raced at world championship level for 3 years before joining Motogp... already a 2 times world champion It's the speed he has arrived into Motogp. Only 19yrs old, the level of riders is so much higher these days. No disrespect to previous world champions. Maybe ask this question again next year?
@gbone75817 ай бұрын
Maybe they start earlier now and have a process to get to MotoGP that didn't exist before?
@RichardGrumball-od3ms7 ай бұрын
Yes they do start younger.. but as I said they competition is tough. We are talking top 20 under a second nowdays. Wasn't like that in Kenny Roberts days. The Spanish and Italian riders are next level. I don't think we will see a American, English or even Australian Motogp world champion again for a long time.
@utkarshtyagi106 ай бұрын
Yes but back then they didn’t have as many championships as now. Pedro Acosta also competed in red bull rookies and european Cev moto3.

I watched that US GP and apart from it being a nail biter to the end. I was impressed by Acosta. Really Impressed! Tech3 so far in front of the factory KTMs was impressive. And he just looked like he belonged at the front of the field. As the commentators said shortly after the race, he may have just added a zero or two to the number in his contract. This sport is pretty much making me give up on my initial entry in to the world of motorsport F1. Now I find myself making time for MotoGP instead of what is happening with F1 where I just watch the start if I come across it by any chance. Also I think I need to get a track bike 😂

He was very impressive. The kid has absolutely no fear. He hasn't changed the bike since the first test; he's just getting used to riding it!

Agree with you on most counts. Agostini was a God on a motorcycle, but a ruthless shit as a team owner and manager. A nice man he isn't. The British 500 GP dice between Roberts & Sheene was the first race I ever watched, at GP level, and the skill of those two men, with completely different styles and approaches, but never more than about 10 feet apart throughout the race, that's what got me hooked. MotoGP has been bought and sold to the Americans, so I would expect we'll see a few of them on the grid in the next 3 ~ 4 years. As long as they don't try and run it like NASCAR ~ It'd be a shame to see the sport I have loved for half a century go down the 'S' bend that way. You don't run a World Championship motor-sport series like International Wrestling on TV, from Madison Square Garden. Hulk Hogan is great and all, but that's not the way MotoGP should work.

Padro Acosta is good but needs 6 wins and another 15 podiums to equal Marc,,,,!!! We will see, Plus Marc had to fight a tougher grid. I think Kenny is a close second,but the stats don't lie,,,Marc might have that record for a while.. In fairness,Paco is in a satellite team,but Stoner was a more instant success

Its not how you start but how you finish so Ago and Rossi are the GOAT's.

As I understand it, the Americans that dominated starting with Roberts, was in no small part due to them knowing how to set up tires, chassis, suspension, etc... and either hand cutting tires themselves, or knowing how to communicate with their tuners. The Europeans at the time were ONLY riders. They just rode what the teams gave them. Rider feedback was not a thing. Turned out that getting 100% out of a second rate bike was better than 50% out of a top factory bike.
@mark6757 ай бұрын
Americans knowing how to setup suspension etc, doesn't sound right to me 😂 even American companies didn't know how to do that 😂
