Only an elder sibling can understand Hector’s predicament. Having to pay for his brother’s crimes, a crime he didn’t commit. So it is with me and my brother and I think, all siblings. The oldest always takes the fall for the rest.

to the work of the Iliad and the Little Iliad, the great hero was Diomedes. He was the favorite hero of the goddess Athena. He killed many important Trojans and wounded the gods Aphrodite, Apollo, Mars. seriously injured the hero Aeneas who was saved with the help of the goddess Aphrodite. He also tried to kill Hector three times, but was saved by the intervention of the god Zeus. When Achilles killed a relative in his anger, Diomedes was not afraid to duel him for revenge. After the old Nestor, he was considered the wisest of the Greeks. Hector was a second-rate hero. Twice he was in danger of being killed by Ajax and was saved by divine intervention. Patroclus was superior to Hector. He would have conquered Troy if the god Apollo had not prevented him. The god Apollo was the one who killed Patroclus and Eumorphos delivers the second fatal blow Hector merely gave him the finishing blow in an arrogant manner and wanted to throw Patroclus' dead body to the dogs. But Hector was the man who loved his family but not his country because he could have given Helen back later and the war would have ended Among the heroes, we place Achilles, Diomedes, Ajax in the first class of bravery. Achilles and Ajax were invulnerable except for one point. In the second class was Patroklos. In the third class were Hector, Odysseus and Menelaus.

Movie Hector yes. But the Hector in the Iliad was a murdering psychopath that wanted to violate and mutilate Patroclus' corpse. Literally the only reason Achilles desecrated Hector's body was specifically because Hector intended to do it to Patroclus before the other Achaeans rescued his corpse.

Illios, Troy or as it was called by the Hittites, Walusa existed. There can be no doubt of that any longer. I think it's time we agree that myths are not in every case mere stories and in some cases much more than that...even history perhaps.

@@thomasdaywalt7735 well...accept that the hittites do have a record of a city called wallusa requesting aid to break a siege from foreigners ravaging their lands. This is believed to be a direct reference to the mycenean palace kings invading troy when the hittites were too weak to support their subject cities. Troy is believed to be the last trading link open to Europe before the bronze age collapse. I believe it's fall instigated the full collapse and the mycneans themselves pushed out by the Dorian descendents of herecles became the pirate sea people's.

Why do you insist on placing Phrygians in Asia Minor before the Trojan War (ended c. 1180 BCE) when that's actually the conventional date (archaeology seems limited on accurate dating) for the Phrygian/Mushki migration to Asia Minor (more likely 1178 BCE, with the Greek-led anti-Hittite coalition of the "Sea Peoples") rampaged through Asia Minor and to some extent also the Levant? I strongly suspect that when the Illiad says Phrygians, it means proto-Phrygians in Macedon (Bryges), just as when they say Larissa they mean Larissa in Thessaly (major Pelasgian center with thousands of years of autonomous civilization, although earlier located rather towards the coast: Dimini area, near modern Volos). The Trojan War was clearly a showdown between Indoeuropean Greeks and pre-Indeoeuropean Aegean peoples of the Pelasgo-Tyrsenian macro-ethnicity. Once settled who ruled the region (who got Helen, personifying Hellas in a pseudo-romantic metaphoric sense, which is enhanced by the Eris and the apple of discord mythical narrative), Greece rallied the defeated countries against the Hittites and then (including Teucrian/Trojans, i.e. Tjekker, against Egypt even).

Every name in Homer's epic poems carries significance. The ancient poet did not arbitrarily choose the names of his characters; instead, he imbued them with meanings that often reflected the characters' traits, accomplishments, origins, or roles within the narrative. Take, for instance, the name of Troy's ruler, Priam. This name can be interpreted to mean "the one who is first among others." The connection to modern words such as "prime," which connotes the highest quality or value, is evident. Similarly, the term "prime minister," used in contemporary political systems, designates the head of government, suggesting a position of paramount importance-echoing the stature of Priam in the epic. Or consider Prince Hector, whose name means "the important one" or "the one who holds power/authority." In the realm of Homer's literature, each name is chosen with careful consideration. Characters' titles often reflect their status or character traits. For example, Achilles' name suggests the glory of the warrior ethos. His prowess in battle and his status as a hero are emblematic of his name's suggestion of nobility and martial excellence. Similarly, Odysseus, the protagonist of "The Odyssey," derives his name from the Greek word 'odyssomai,' meaning to hate or to be grieved. This reflects his long and arduous journey home, marked by trials and suffering that endear him to the audience and highlight his resilience and cunning. These names are not only appellations but also descriptors that serve to provide the audience with a glimpse into the character's role within the narrative, their personality, or their destiny. The tradition of meaningful names is not confined to the world of ancient epics. It continues in various forms across different cultures and literary genres, where authors often select names to add depth to their characters, to foreshadow their fates, or to pay homage to historical or mythological figures. In this way, the epics of Homer, replete with meaningful names, create a tapestry of characters whose very identities are entwined with their destinies and traits. This enhances the richness of the poetic narrative and offers insight into the ancient world where stories were not only entertainment but also a mode of preserving history, culture, and values.

The name Ἕκτωρ,(Hektor) which already appears in Linear B΄ together with the derivative ἔκτοριος, is usually etymologically derived from the combination of the root of the verb ἔχω (have) ,and the ending -τωρ which indicates the person who acts, therefore "the one who has, the one who holds"
