@barbarawalsh287511 ай бұрын
I didn’t get my license till I was 20. And it was only by the fact that one of the driving test teachers would have my fathers firefighters take their tests to operate the fire trucks. It was the only time in my life when my father put his uniform on when he didn’t have to And took me to the drivers license bureau so I could take my driving test. And he walked up to the lady and when it was my turn she came and got me and she said OK let’s go and we drove around for a little bit of time maybe 10 minutes and she said let’s go get your picture taken. 10 years ago I started losing my eyesight so I can’t drive anymore. Are used to miss it but now I don’t know when I really wish I could just get in the car and go. Yeah I miss it then but for the most part no car, no insurance no upkeep no hyper Bolic prices of gas, and not having to worry about a lot of loud music, text messaging, food, eating, women putting make up on behind the wheel. I just don’t have to deal with it and that’s OK.

Thank you, Father Mike. This perfectly describes what I went through when I got to college. I was a straight A student in high school, and when I got to college, I struggled with keeping up with the work load. My ego was hit hard, and over the next few semesters, my motivation and my grades started tanking. I had to learn new motivation when things were a struggle. But now you’ve put it in words that make sense of it all. A growth mindset vs a set mindset. We’re all born sinners, but God makes saints out of us. I hope I never forget the implications of his grace.
@jellojenna64 жыл бұрын
This reminds me of the kids I used to teach (I was a math tutor). A lot of them believed that they were bad at math or that whatever new thing they had to learn would be really hard. It's a wonderful feeling when the kids realize they can do it! One student, who had been really reluctant to try a new concept, after I had helped him a little bit, he said, "Oh, that's easy!" Maybe I also have accepted some beliefs about myself that are not true.

"You live life at two levels. You live life at the level at which you think, and you live life at the level at which you know. It is to bring you into life at the level at which you know that is the purpose of true religion in all of its forms. This reunites you with your Creator and with your greater purpose for being in the world. This brings you back to Knowledge, for God can only be known. Your purpose can only be known. Your true relationships in life can only be known. Your true impulses can only be known. Your ideas about them are secondary and, as is often the case, can only interfere with the recognition of Knowledge. You can believe in all these things. However, belief must have real experience as its foundation, or it becomes self-deceptive. Knowledge is living within you at this moment. You live in your thoughts and your ideas, in your sensations and in your perceptions of the world around you. You are governed by forces, both physical and mental, that you cannot account for, but this happens only at the surface of your life. Deeper down are the real currents that move your life, the currents of Knowledge. Knowledge moves you slowly into position so that you can discover and learn those things that will enable you to take the next step in your life. Knowledge is moving you towards realization, towards understanding and towards certain individuals who are destined to meet you and to be with you, if you can find them and if they can find you." Father Mike, what you said resonates with the book I am currently reading, The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. The first agreement is: "Speak impeccably" which indicates that our words and what we say to ourselves and to others can create what the book refers "creating a spell" either in a positive or negative way. And this study that you brought up reminds me of that. I love listening to you on KZbin

Hey Father Mike! I love what you and the team here at Ascension are doing. You might be interested in knowing that Prof. Dweck's findings on growth vs. fixed mindsets have been irreplicable outside of her team, which is something of a death knell for theories in psychology. What I perceive as the essence of the video isn't compromised by this, but it's probably not the best model to support the tenet that the strive to sainthood is never in vain. It's been awesome seeing Ascension grow these past few years. Thank you for all that you and the team do!

God is holy and perfect; and He created the first person, Adam, to be His sinless friend. But Adam disobeyed God and chose to do things his own way. And sin spoiled the perfect friendship between God and human beings. There is none righteous, no, not one... for all have sinned. God loves His creation so much that He did something that we couldn’t do. God Himself paid the sin price for everyone who has ever lived. In our Bible, there is a wonderful word called ‘Grace.’ G-R-A-C-E God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense. The Bible tells us that sin must be paid for. And we cannot pay the price for sin. Only God could do that. And the good news is that God did pay for our sins. Jesus is God in a human body, what the Bible calls the fullness of the Godhead bodily. He lived a perfect, sinless life on earth and then laid down His life to pay for all sins for all time by being crucified on the Cross. Jesus took our place, bearing the punishment for our sins that we deserved. Because He never sinned, He could pay our price with His own sinless blood on the Cross. Everybody has been payed for, but not everybody has trusted Christ’s payment for their sins. When we understand that we are sinners and that we cannot pay for our own sins, then we can choose to trust the payment Jesus made for us. We need to trust what Jesus did for us to pay for our sins when He shed God’s blood on that Cross. Jesus took our punishment in our place. And He offers us peace with God now and a home in Heaven with Him forever the very moment we trust the payment He made for our sins on the Cross.

A thought that goes with this very well: We have the story of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector in which Jesus says the tax collector, the man in the back of the church with his head between his legs and who, by every right, "shouldn't be there" is the man that leaves justified. I will be the first to say, if you ever feel like you "don't belong" at mass, if mass is the last place you want to be, GO!!! Christ sees the hurt, that feeling of "I am not good enough" and will be the one to tell you that you are wrong!
